I've opened all the chests on all 6 of my characters on the same day, for the first two times. This third time, the only one who is able to open is my Elonian ranger, although she opened all the chests on the same day as the rest of my toons. I barely touch my ranger. My main was the first to open all the chests the first two times, however cannot open this third time around.

Very puzzling!

It's funny, I was able to get all the chests a third time on all of the 5 characters that had reached at least desolation. My wife, however, was only able to get it on 1/4 of her characters that had those same chests. Both of us have multiple characters from all three campaigns, and at least one of my characters from each campaign could re-open the chests, while only her Canthan Warrior could.

I can lists a handful of differences between my characters and hers, if it helps.

1) I'm a big spender, not a saver. I tend to only have around 50k-100k on me at any given point in time, while my wife saves and saves, with hundreds of plat on her. At the time we went through, I only had about 80k, her about 315k or so.

2) I have about 300-400 more hours of play-time than she does. Although her account is a couple of days older than mine.

3) I have played more PvP than she has. She has only racked up about 3k balth faction, while I'm probably around 20k.

4) All the characters that could get treasures a third time, and the ones that couldn't have varying levels of multiple titles, nothing maxed. Don't think it's related to any titles that I could tell.

5) We both play all of these characters off and on fairly regularly. Some more than others, but again, I was able to get it with all my characters, no matter how much they were played, and she wasn't (save one), no matter how much they were played. So I doubt it has to do with time played.

6) Neither of us farm. I used to, before Nightfall came out, but not any more. Everything we do is exploring, questing, helping friends with missions, a little AB'ing, trying to beat campaigns, etc. I occasionally do some RA, and I'm getting into Aspenwood.

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Really, it looks like the only real differences are our current and long-term gold savings, I have more time invested, and I PvP more. So yeah, hope this helps at all.

Tried the Buried Treasure in Mirror of Lyss for a 4th time with my main Char. Nothing.

It seems there're random factor which determines whether a character can open chests again or not. Gaile hinted such in past Gaile Chat.

In my case, 7 out of 10 characters could re-open chests at the end of February.
Able: 1Elonian, 2Canthan, 4Tyrian / Unable: 1Elonian, 2Tyrian

While those who opened chests later could re-open, earlier ones couldn't. There're no apparent difference among these characters.

Maybe it's 3 times total?

First time between Dec 19th and Jan 19th
Reset Jan 19th, second time
*30 days or so pass*
Start of "new" reset Feb 19th, third time

No more?

(Tried my para in Jahai last night, nothing. She was the first to open after Feb 19th... then again, Feb only had 28 days, and I think I didn't go for any treasure til the 20th... OY wish I knew!!! :P )

I was able to open them a 3rd time with only 1/9 characters. The others just aren't able to open them a third time so I don't know what's happening.

I tried and can't open anything with either of my 3 characters. They were able to get all treasures to date until now. Stop the nonsense Anet. Just let people play the game and get their treasures. Get rid of the lame formula. These treasures are one of the few reasons I (as well as some other people) even bother to log in to this game.

guys, check things like guild wiki, it TELLS you, they reset every 30 days PER CHARACTER FROM TIME OF OPENING!!!!!!!, so, if you say, open 1 chest in Kamadan, and then 2 weeks later one in Kourna, it will take another 2 weeks between the kamadan one and the kourna one to reset, its not rocket science, and its not exactly a formula, all my 6 characters have opened the chests twice so far, and one char has opened them 3 times now, with no problems, 30 days between opening.

Hey, chill lol. These people are TELLING you, they should be able to open them based on the 30-day timing. But as yet they have not been able. Explain that without the rocket science.

I have also been able to open chests 3 times on 5 (or 6, can't remember) chars, but the first one hasn't reset yet.

<--willing to admit I am not sure to calculate 30 days or Feb 19-Mar 19, or which particular day my first char opened for the 3rd time.

Don't think its just a 30 day formula. Got 4 pve characters. All opened chests twice. Heard about being able to reopen a third time (weeks ago). My main char, and the one I opened the chests with first, couldn't open a third time. My necro and ele, could open the chests for a third time. My ranger, who opened last, last time, couldn't reopen a third time.

Reset every 30 days per character? No.

While 30 days certainly may be one part of the equation it is definitely misleading people. All characters will NOT get a reset every 30 days. However, SOME characters in past instances have gotten resets after approximately 30 days had passed since last opening. There is some formula according to gaile a formula they are unwilling to disclose. For all we know it could be random selection by like how during halloween people were picked to played rock paper scissors against the mad king. Again its really at this point a guessing game at best.

Agreed. 30 Day formula is not correct. None of my characters can open chests for a third time and its been more than 30 days since I last opened a chest with ANY of them.

Yeah I donot think its 30 days.

The last time the chests actually got reset, I was able to open them all with all characters except one, (keeping in mind that the time before that I opened the chests with all characters within 2 days, so there was not a long time between them)

After the threads that poped up last week about them being reset again, I went to check and was not able to open them even with that character that I was not able to open with the last time. It has been well over 50 days I would say.

I have the one character that hasn't been able to open any chest in almost 2 months.

For my particular account, the rule seems to be, 3 strikes and yer out.

Every char that has opened 3 times, cannot open a 4th time. The ones who have not yet opened 3 times (and 30 days have gone by since the last opening), can.

That does not apply to me, though. From the last batch (february, 3rd run) some characters could open all and some could not, having opened only 2 chests altogether. (None of my toons can open any for the 4th time.)

Just checked to see if my chests have reset and they have

. Been around 2 months before mine reset.

Just opened 5 of them, drops have been worse than my previous ones though.
