Poll:Should ANet temp ban spammers?
Just as the title says. All it takes is a simple yes or no. We don't need to argue this in 2 threads, so save your thoughts/comments for this thread, http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...156967&page=15

No they shouldn't. Just give them a couple hour ban at most. And at least, make it so they can't talk in the Local chat for 30 minutes.
Edit: I actually cannot vote because we don't know Ryker's definition of "temp-ban", or how long this temp-ban is.

A couple hour ban is a temp ban, just a short one.
I think for people who progressively spam, non-stop they should. However normal people do have to repeat their message to get themselves heard.

For clarity it should be stated what they spam, as there can be people "spamming" guild proposals, begging, and other stuff besides buying. Or should it relate to all repetitive messaging with little to no time in between the messages?
IMO should spamming in other channels be suppressed as well, in accordance with the EULA.

no...banning people for spamming is just a lazy way of dealing with the trade problem
if they keep doing this, i expect them to start banning leechers as well. they're much more hurtful to others' gameplay then spammers. spammers can be shut out by turning off the trade channels.

Yep they should, alot of people get annoyed with all the spam especially trade or recruiting spam, i would consider messaging the same (or near identical) message every 20 seconds or less as spam(this includes changing district or town)

Thats very much not true, most trade spammer dont even use the trade channel they use the local channel, so u avoid them u have to shut off local chat to whihc cuts off communication with all other non party/guild/alliance players.
ITs about time people relised that its nto a good thing to send the same message 10 times in the space of 5 seconds, you doing this causes more people to do it to stop their chat from being "swallowed" up by ur stream of messages. It also causes alot of other people who dont spam to never get noticed.

As things are now. I am not sure, Standing around yelling "who wants this?" is currently the only way people have to sell things. (I merch everything because i cant be bothered to stand around Hawking my warez...The npc's might have time to stand around, but I got monsters to slay) I think arenanet should give us an auction house, and then temp ban people for spamming if it continues.

No. Just because other people play differently to me and enjoy to trade does not mean that they should be punished.

Theres nothing wrong with sending WTB, WTS messages the issue is spamming the SAME message every 2 seconds and especially doing it in local chat rather than the trade chat

I voted Yes, but I really think the poll needs more choices.
1. Temp ban local chat spammers only
2. Temp ban all spammers even those that use trade channel.
3. No ban, but remove chat privileges on Local/Trade channels for 1 day.
4. No punishment at all.

There's nothing wrong with someone enjoy trading, as long as that someone is using the trade chat. Leave the local/all chat for something else.

Please everyone, direct your comments to the thread linked in my OP. We really don't need 2 threads dedicated to this discussion.

If that's the case then this poll will need to be more specific, Ryker. Example: I am in support of a temp ban of an hour. I am not in support of a temp ban of 72.

I voted yes. Hell yes. With a few caveats though:

This is kind of what the All channel is for, in addition to LFG sorts of things and general use, not that I am terribly fond of begging. I dont see a problem though with much of these sorts of things.

This is the main thing in question for me. This is "spamming." The things above as well as WTS/WTB etc arent spamming in and of themselves. This sort of abuse:
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Showing up on All channel in rapid succession like that is someone badly in need of a temp ban and a little self control.
I have less of a problem with a single line of that showing up once in a while on the All channel (even though it doesnt belong there) as well as that showing up in rapid succession spam style on the Trade channel (where it belongs, even though it was spammed), but spamming those kinds of things on the All channel is where I cast my vote for warranted temp bans. Same for rapid succession use of other "advertisements" on All channel, but we usually see the problem at its worst as regards simply item sales.
If people dont like temp bans (though this is what I support) then make it the disablng of All and/or Trade channel (public channels) for a set period of time. The person could continue to play, but would be forced to cool their heels a little bit until they got the idea. Maybe this is the solution for first and/or second time offenders, with a temp ban to follow if they keep it up.

I'll settle simply for the most egregious case, as described above. I dont think Anet needs to police it to the letter, but rapid succession out of context sales-related spam on the All channel has no place.

I voted no. While I hate spamming as much as the next person, I don't think it's a ban-able offense. It makes more sense to me to have ANet simply filter it out. For example, the software should auto filter any repeated messages by a single player, and not display them (within a given time period, 60 seconds for example).
With that being said, I would like to see a player reporting system. It really sucks when people spam the chat channel with recruiting and trade. They should use the trade channel, that's what it is there for. (Ok, so recruitment isn't trade, but its obnoxious anyway). I'd like to be able to report flagrent "repeat offenders". That way, if ANet sees 20 reports on a single individual, maybe they can take action. Of course, this too can be manipulated by ill-meaning people, but its a step.

They can get around it too easy:
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [1]
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [2]
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [3]
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [4]
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [5]
WTS Lockpicks 1.3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [6]
Then there was the messaging suppression system in place for a while that prevented me from chatting with friends and guildies because I typed too fast for the suppression system lol.
Some sort of auto-suppression system in use on the All channel for repeated messages and abuse would be fine by me, if it actually worked. I still think people that really abuse it need a time out, just like the do in hockey.

Recruitment goes on All, imho, as its not WTB/WTS, but sure, where it goes is preferential. Spamming to me, rather than where something is placed, is more the problem.
Reporting system, well, I would envision it taking too much management to fact check, ease of players reporting for no good reason etc, people getting reported and maybe banned for not having done anything at all. Its a can of worms in the making, I think. Not that I know how Anet would get around to temp banning spammers, but the topic wasnt how but rather if.

But Aera, how long should they be temp-banned?
This thread poll is almost as specific as asking "Should people be punished for doing something bad?" The answer is no duh, of course they should! What matters is how they are punished. Same goes for this poll. It's how LONG they are temp-banned that matters, not just being temp-banned.
I'm saying this, as I've already stated, because I'm in support of temp-banning but only for 2 hours at the MOST. Ryker's definition of a temp-ban could be totally different, so therefore I cannot vote on it.
