how about including an AH or some sort of *vastly* improved trade system in one of those other seemingly more important "things" they're working on? honestly, trade improvements have been cried for since day 1...3 chapters later, thousands of new items included in the game, and still no trade improvement? its high time trade improvements be prioritized. enough with the stupid minipets already, add something useful to the game. adding an AH to EoTN would be a major selling point, imo.

And players are also constantly crying that Anet hasnt released another game in 6 months...
...so what is Anet working its ass off doing?
Making a 4th expansion, and creating GW2. Now you either want them to focus on the 4th expansion and GW2 or you want them to focus on the AH.
Which one is it? the fact is, if they focused on the AH and delayed releasing the 4th expansion, people would winge and cry about that.
For god sake, do you not realise its ALOT of hard work doing all that stuff?
They cant just casually think.....
"oh while we're at it, we'll just toss in the AH too. It wont add too much work, and the community wont mind if it delays the release date by about 2 or 3 months."
....get realistic. You have to put priorities on things. If players were truly bothered about improving trading ingame, they would get off their arses and stop spamming local chat, take advantage of the party search and stasrt acting with some maturity.
But instead, its alot easier to just winge and complain, instead of getting pro-active and improving what we already have.
The trading system is fine, it does the job. Its not a desperately needing improving. Unlike bug fixes and new campaigns and entire new games which are in development, which are important.

They've already had over two years to create an Auction House and vastly improve the trade system. What do they have to show for it? That useless Trade in Party Search.
The "Trading System" is horrifically broken if people have to spam to sell their things to players for any time over five minutes.

How exactly are the existing trade methods broken and useless?
We have a trade channel dedicated to posting sales notices, and we now have a party search option which allows you to also post sales notices.
None of those features are broken. The term you looking for is, "they dont get used" and "they get abused". The current system isnt bad because it doesnt work. The current system is bad because the users abuse it or dont use it correctly, if at all.
You cant blame the software, or the programmers if they users are going to miss-use or refuse to use the software properly.
There is absolutely nothing stopping anyone from using the party search to post small sales messages. Its purely because arrogant, stubborn morons refuse to use it. Its not "good enough" for them to advertise.
It doesnt matter whether we added an auction house, you would still have people constantly spamming because their inpatient and the AH wouldnt be good enough for their sales techniques!!!
If players are going to abuse the existing system, then dont blame Anet.
Why should Anet spend time and effort putting in an AH for a community, that is quite honestly selfish! Your all quick to point out the things you dont like, but you nevr mention the good stuff. Until people learn to grow up and use the existing system correctly, then I dont see why Anet should even bother with an AH.
It would quite obviously get abused too, and then people would start complaining it isnt good enough.

Wait a minute, you're talking about people who routinely type shorthand like ur, u, b4, cu and on and on? This is the age of texting and shorthand, so that arguement just doesn't work.

*sigh*
Yet another Internet fight developing. Sometimes, I have to admit, people irk me - a lot. Other times, somehow, they don't.
Nevertheless. I have a solution to the chat spamming problem.
Permaban, no appeal.
That's right. Read it again.
Permaban. No appeal.
Now, I understand why this would be unpopular. ANet would risk some future profits from the permanent alienation of some people. Some of you will say they've done that already with other issues, but I digress. Players would dreadfully fear being banned by mistake.
I call BS. "A Mistake"? Please. There is simply NO WAY you can "accidentally" press Enter to activate the chat window, the UP arrow to select the last message, and Enter again to send it. We're talking statistical improbability bordering on the monekys + typewriters + 1M years = Hamlet level. "Accidental spamming" is right up there with "accidental shooting" in my book. If your message pops up three, four, five times in a row within the space of three seconds or so, you're spamming. I don't see how this can be confusing.
No, I propose a clear set of rules: No repetition of the same chat massage within thirty seconds of the first transmission of that message while in towns or outposts. (Explorable areas are not affected by this rule.) First offense: Warning, in game, right there on the spot. Instead of "Supressed for excessive message" you get "do that again and we'll miss you" or sommat to that effect. Second offense: Adios, muchachos.
Harsh? Yeah. It's really harsh. So is trying to talk to someone in LA D1 while trying to sort past the incessant blathering about people selling worthless junk.
"Go to a different district" you say. To that, I call BS, again. I paid for this game the same as anyone else did. So *I* have to be inconvenienced, simply because of the people who are breaking the rules?
Sorry, but I'm seeing way too many "allowances" being made by people to accomodate the people who are breaking the rules for their own profit. A permanent ban for chat spamming will start to enforce rules that have gone relatively unenforced for awhile.
"Oh, great, so now the districts will be deserted and I'll never have a chance to sell my Item X." Good attitude, right off. You're right, if that's the way you want to look at it.
Why don't sellers ever try something clever instead of something spammable?
Think about it. If you could only send your trade message twice a minute, how would you phrase it to garner the most attention? Instead, sellers just spam "WT S Super Awesome Sword of Divine Self Worship etc etc" with variable, but adundant exclamation points at the end to dodge the spam filter - which is avoiding a filter and should be a bannable offense, anyway.
Make the quality of your message go up, and the quantity go down, and the whole market will thrive. Instead, we have market stagnation because everybody's parroting the same thing on screens that go by so fast no one can read them.

Faster the merchandise and money moves.... The better the economy.
Better economy = Less frustraion from your players. Especially with Starcraft 2 and Half-Life Mods gearing up. D3 in the works too... Just make a dang Auction System. Or More NPC's for more generic mods and Greens.... maybe even Tomes...

so what is spamming in your definition, and how where u using the chat channels? Your opinion on what is spamming or not may be influenced by the way you sell. If u hit up/enter each 10-20 lines you may still be considered a spammer (by Anet). Maybe you have to readjust your definition to what is spamming to ANets vision and not convince others of your opinion, after all they set the rules. And if they deemed themselves incorrect (after u filed a complaint) they would have unbanned your account too.
It is ofcourse not impossible that Anet banned you by mistake, after all, the organisation is made up by humans. But you can't really speak for others, as you don't know how they behaved.

I would like to know how they decide when you have been spamming
Last night I got the "message blocked for excessive messaging"
Yet I was advertising only in trade and waiting till my previous message had completely scrolled out of the window. Meanwhile, several people were spamming 5 or six messages at once in local.
What kind of weird programming do they have that decides excessive messaging?"

That means you were trying to send too many messages in too short a time.

There is no auction house...this is a fact so accept it and move on. Complaining that there should be one or that one is needed or that A-Net owes you one does not negate this simple fact... It is also counterproductive, by whining and complaining about a lack of one people are not working toward a solution or telling us anything we don’t already know.
That being said, there are acceptable provisions for people to sell within the game and outside of the game as well. That the resources are not being used or that they are being abused does not change the fact that you do have a good system in place. Nothing will work including an auction house if it is not used properly and rules and guidelines are not practiced and enforced.
People stating that "everyone knows D1 in LA or Kamadan or Kaineng is for trade" is a poor excuse for breaking rules we all agreed to when we started the game. Also, if they actually believe it is limited to just district 1 of any town they are just not paying attention. Spamming has become a plague in the game and a heavy dose of disinfectant is called for.
I am all for banning! Make it a day or a week…I have no problem with people being banned for spam. If the punishment is harsh enough the message will finally sink in. I don’t see a big difference in the WTS spam from the 20 messages in a row LFG or join my stinking guild. Some will disagree with me; some will say that looking for a group is different or that people are forced to spam because of the trade spam. I watched someone spam for a group just last night, fill the conversation box, wait a few seconds and do it again…no one else was chatting so the only thing you saw was the one spammer. You could not have paid me enough to allow the jerk into my group…if he is that obnoxious just trying to party up I can only imagine the headache he would be in a quest or mission. It is still spam….The party search box has a place for these things as well.
The party search box does not have adequate room to put in a full message, this is to me the most simple and efficient fix A-net could do. Just the ability to put in 2 lines would be more than enough for people to sell, advertise recruiting for their guild or find a group for whatever they wanted to do in the game. The excuse that no one uses it is a poor one. If that is the tool that people are given and the spam is removed as an option, then they will use the party search box. It is just that simple…
1. Should spammers be banned? – absolutely without question…a great big YES
2. A-Net, please enhance and expand the party search box so that it is a desirable and viable option for sellers, buyers, party formations and guild recruitments.

With GW:EN and GW 2 in development, I don't know if A-Net will have the time nor resources to implement that kind of request?

Please show us how you would advertise the following sale item in 31 characters:
dead sword
max damage
req 9
health +30
fiery hilt
+15^50
Now try advertising more than 1 thing at a time.
Yes, I know, there's trade chat. But have you tried lately keeping up with chat in a busy district?
I agree completely with banning people for spam, because I hate that I'm unable to have conversations in any of the bigger districts, but it's not going to stop until there's something better.
I'm not advocating an auction house. Just a tab on the party search window dedicated to trading, with the ability to list multiple items.
Once that's in place, ANet can start banning spammers left and right and I will cheer them on. Until then, while I don't condone spamming, I can't really blame anyone for it.

I blame em still for me being less able to sell stuff. With their spam messages they drive normal EULA abiding GW players from the chat. I can blame them for me selling less as they do not abide by the laws that make competitive trade possible. THEY JUST SPAM.
