Scammers :(
Well i have seen quite a few ppl trying to do the scam in Thirsty river this week. I was scammed about a month ago and lost about 100k. Just letting people know if someone trys to tell you that they can duplicate an item by going to the Thirsy River Mission don't listen to them ITS A SCAM. I saw someone earlier today got scammed by this. One scammer in particular trying to do this is
Just giving a heads up to all the people who dont know about this.

First off: No names! (against forum rules)
Second: Scammers suck, but people should understand that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is a scam.

I can't believe people still believe in dupes. Dupes only exist in D2.

No people do not deserve to be scammed. For crying out loud we are not all as smart as you. If you haven't looked lately this is a pretty complicated game. It takes many hours of play to learn all the ways to play this game. It is pretty easy to get scammed. But you have to learn to be careful and not trust anyone. Kind of like real life. Because people would rather cheat than play the game.

That's very unfair, a lot of people get scammed before they really understand the game. They've added a lot of helpful little features to try and reduce scamming, but it still happens. When I first started playing the game, I bought a customised weapon without realising what it meant. I only lost about 2k, but at that point it seemed like a lot of money, and I almost stopped playing the game. It's a shame so many people in the GW community decide to be compelte jerks just to make a bit of money.
And yet, there are still people who wonder why some of us play this purely as a single player game.

Unfortunately Guild Wars mirrors life and there are scammers in both. People do not deserve to get scammed. Some may be looking for a easy out...many that play are kids. It is a shame that they get away with it! If I am in a town and I see someone trying to mislead or scam I call them on it...I have had many scammers get angry with me but I have also had many people whisper me and thank me for giving them the heads up.
Shame on you for saying people deserve it...

Victim in this particual scam is not inncoent at all. This is not where scamer pretends that mursasat tokens are ectoes (why wasnt graphics fixed?) or where you are coned to buying customized stuff.
Scamer didnt abuse scamees lack of knowledge or not paying attention. He abused his greed.
Seriosuly, if you get scamed because you wanted to dupe, you deserve this harsh lesson.
---
On realted note, why on the earth would you believe that someone who can dupe is going to show how to do it to complete stranger?

This brings up a good point because most of the major scams in the game are because people want a run or get max items before they actually play to those areas. So sometimes I do believe people should be a little bit smarter and they won't get scammed there are some times when I think they deserve it because they do the same thing over and over and get scammed everytime, so if you aren't smart enough to get it the first time than you deserve what you get. Too many people bitch about being scammed through runners etc, and yet they are cheating themselves because they aren't actually playing the game.
If you want to take the shortcut deal with the consequences.

Completely agree. It's equivalent to being told you can steal XX amount of money from the bank by routing your funds through some account. Then doing that and having all your money drained from your account. You gonna bitch to the cops about how you were scammed while attempting robbery? Ha!

Congratulations, your an idiot! I agree that anet should punish the scammers, in case like this where it clearly is a scam. But you should also be punished, using exploits is also against the rules. And no mercy should be shown because your stupid enough to get scammed attempting something that would break the rules.
And your also an Idiot for posting a name on a forum that does not allow unauthorised name posting.
2 for 2!
WTS magic beans, PM me your offer!

Even if you'd believe this, why put in 100K the first time? You could just as well first try it out with a random salvage item or something...
Really, being scammed in Guildwars is really hard. Don't you watch trades over XX platinum a bit extra just to make sure you get what you think you'll get?
I agree with WinterSnowblind partially though. Scams like selling customized items to newbies is just sad, and the people who are being scammed can't do very much about it if they don't know the system of customization.

Comming to a message board complaining you got scammed while trying to cheat is not going to ever get you very far.

If he get scammed, then he deserve it.
First, if he's a newbie, then he doesn't possess enough money to be the target of scammers. If he's not new, then he probably already aware of potential scams.

AMEN!
Scammers are the tormenting hell of this game. Get a life you pathetic people, seriously. This is not a 100% proven formular, but in alot of cases, peoples ingame behaviour to some degree reflects their rl behaviour. So in otherwords, dishonest ingame = dishonest in rl. And for most part, dishonesty gets it's deserving place, thankfully...
Getting scammed in GW is not a deserved thing. Yes some people could be more wary than they are, but how do they deserve it? If they themselves are a scammer, then get scammed, then yes! They deserve it! But your casual player who thinks they're getting a good deal to get a little 'leg-up' in the GW food chain doesn't deserve to lose their hard earned cash/items to greedy dishonest mofo. There are many rl occasions where honest hard working people get screwed by greedy, lowlife, conscienceless bastards, so how is an online game with real players any different?
When we have "real people" who buy online games soley to scam other real people, that says so much about the sort of person they are deep down. Even if they aren't as dishonest in rl as they are ingame (only through fear of consequences to themselves, not through the guilt of harming other human beings), if they even consider being dishonest ingame, then it's pretty safe to say that deep down they are/can be a dishonest person.
I have not and will never scam anyone in GW (or anywhere online), because in my first 2 weeks of playing I got burnt twice, and have since been very wary. And more to the point, I am a firm believer in the "what goes around comes around" "do unto others" formular...
well, my 2 cents is spent... =oP

But hey, you were willing to jump on an exploit to make some extra cash, huh?
