I don't really believe people get it has a status symbol.... though i'm sure there are exceptions.
I got it cause I really like how it looks my warrior she is so cute!
and I mean if you got the money? why not >_>
But yeah if there was a 1.5k armor that I liked better I would deff wear that instead but currently its my favorite so far.

If you like it, buy it.
Frankly, I've never gotten those "e-baying noob" comments when I play wearing my FoW (granted I probablly shut up a lot of those comments with my playing ability).
I really think that those jealous jerks who don't like FoW armor wearers are very few and far between and I haven't met too many of them.
I wouldn't let what other people think influence your decision (of course, that includes what I and anybody else on this thread thinks, so its kinda a worthless thread ).

Well I've had my warriors fow dyed black because I thought it looked good and it matched my old cape, not for any other reason. Yeah I got bored of it and mixed it up but I only dye an armor in a color if I like the way it looks, for some people black is what they like. If I could find a color that felt looked better on my monk's fow I'd gladly re-dye it but I have yet to see a color or mix that i've liked better than black for monk fow.
As far as respct for those with fow or whatever, like has been said, its just too common. But I love my two sets, got one after a week of farming DoA way back when titan gems were going for 100k+ each, second set after some very valuable drops from the HoH chest.

Don't really have any respect or disrespect againts fow armor wearing people.
I do however find it a shame so many ppl dye fow armor black, while there are so many combo's possible instead of boring old black.
And i agree lately fow has gotten way more common.

I've never regarded FoW armor as prestegious(sp). And as GW has matured, so has the ability for long time players to get the high-end armors & weapons. There is no reason to respect someone based on the armor they're wearing, because it's not a good indicator of how skilled they are as a player. It is a good indicator of their personal tastes, however.
In most cases, there are much more attractive armor options for each profession. And once a player gets to wearing max level armor , appearance is all that's left. One can't tell whether someone got FoW armor to show off or because they like the way it looks.
When I got FoW armor for my lady Mesmer, I did it for two reasons: 1. Because I like the way it looks sooo much better than the Victoria's secret stuff (got it before factions release) and 2. It was a challenge to go out and earn the gold to get it. (re: something to do before titles appeared)
I have little to no respect for people who think you have to have the "uber-l33t" stuff. Once I was in Tombs and some goof-ball PM'd me because I didn't have 15k armor on my ranger. It probably never occurred to him that I didn't want my ranger to look that slutty. Another time in Tombs, someone told me they liked the look of my bow. It was a common half-moon! (it is a nice looking one, tho)

The new black makes it look really demonic and totally sick. I may go back to it because it's so badass.

Yeah, I wear armor it hurts less when I get hit. beyond that the single only difference is whether *you* like the armor *you're* wearing. Titles, weapons all same. It's the perfection of the guild wars system. Yup, could even go collector armor...

Was kind of funny to see this thread on the front page when I logged on at work this morning.
I have spent the last several months working towards my FoW armor for my monk. Countless hours of 55ing and E/A on Mindclouder and Skybringer for the elite tomes.
Still doing missions/quest inbetween.
Even got KoaBD on my main toon.
Mapping Tyria and Elona are tasks I will never do again!!!
Beat Factions on my Monk.
I didn't use ebay. Wouldn't take free ectos, shards or gold from guildies even thou they offered time and time again. Bought 80% of the materials from the trader at his price. First 50 ectos sucked at 9k.. but no where near as bad as the day when they were 25K +.
Did all this and still refused to sell ingame items to guildies.
Did it for several reasons:
I like the look of male monk FoW armor.
Wanted to see if I could do it.
Only took 55 days to get everything I needed.
And in a sense it still is a status symbol. May not be to the old vets but to the new players and those of use who have been player for under a year, it does have an awe inspiring arura to it.
And I agree some professions have ugly FoW armor and some don't. But that holds true for almost every type of armor in the game.
It's a money sink but so is all armor above 1-1.5k that has max ingame stats.
And I am excited about doing my Forgemaster run tonight. You should see 8 Stars of Destiny (SoD) capes in ToA, last American Dist around 9pm central.
Good Luck to all and enjoy your time playing GW!!!

Dervish class shouldn't get 15k armor :P
Whenver i see a dervish with 15k armor, i know he's some idiot person with ego problems.
Seriously, when i group with them"as a healer" i stand usually back, then he pop's the blath avatar thinking they can tank everything everywhere, and run away!! so i can't heal them and die, then they start whining about how bad healers are lol

I got FoW a while back on my Ele. The only time I ever bothered with it. Why? A few reasons.
1) It's the only set in the entire game other than 15K Pyromancer that makes him look vaguely heterosexual.
2) He was my first character and therefore I felt he deserved FoW armor.
3) It gave me something to work towards instead of simply hoarding money (I already have UAS primary on all my PvE characters so paying for things like skills isn't an issue).
Do I respect people with it? Not really. I'll respect them once I can see whether they can actually play
And no, I did not dye it black.

yeah i dont think fow armor is anything to be respected or watever. im all about choices. its simply jus an armor set that alot of ppl cant get. i have it on my sin because im tired of other fugly sin armor that everyone is already wearing. in cantha, sins wearing fugly exotic thong armor or imperial armor all dyed pretty much the same. in nightfall, they got fugly ancient armor sin walkin around like total dumbasses lookin like they got fins on them. vabbi chest/legs is nice but the mini fins on the hands and feet are gay and the armor doesnt dye too well. so i chose the fow set to get away from every other person. other ppl say they have seen em, but i havent seen a sin in white obsid armor except here in guru screenshot section. come check me out some day. i take pride however in one part of my fow armor. do a close up on my crotch and spin the camera around left and right and my junk shines. its like a mirror.
flaunting expensive armor and titles are kinda dumb imo. unless ur saying, i can run any build u want and show max skill title or i can run u ezpz from ascalon to xxx and show cartographer 100%. jus the other day, some lvl3 survivor sin joined my raisu group and was like stfu, dont tell me wat build to run, i wont get pwned, my survivor title disproves any doubts about my skills. the dumbass had an ab build or some shit. sprison, bss, db, bls, expose def, some random shit and no res.

My ele (Female and also my oldest) wears droks flame retardant suit still. It's the necro female that had to have fow and only because it's showeet lookin, and after I had farmed all the stuff for it (mostly trapping UW and either SS, bonding or nuking in FoW groups) myself I sat on it all for over 6 months before I actually decided to do the run. In that 6 months time, they added the insignia ready set guess which I got.. So out of like 10+ characters that I actually play, 3 have ascended armor now... thats it. Why? because it's only about the looks for me. If I like an armor I get it, if not I dont. If someone is gonna respect me for the armor I wear then they may need a psychiatrist and some medicating.

for me FoW is a matter of prestige, doesn't matter if it looks good or not. Same could be said for black dye; why else would you totally over-saturate your armor and remove all details from it if being ugly weren't a symbol of wealth.

It really doesn't matter what kind of armour you are wearing all it is is status. It doesn't say I am a better player than you because I have FoW armour no it doesn't.You could have Droks armour and that person can be a better player in the long run.I heard some of you mention buying it off of gold seller e-bay I would believe you are right as 50% used that method.
It all depends on what your goals are for char in what you want to achieve.I wasn't interested in FoW armour at all the only one I thought looked nice was Necromancer.I was told by an old beta test player that I know that my Monk would look good in FoW.I never intended to get mine FoW but after seeing a few SS of ones that look like mine I want it.This however is a long term goal maybe a year or two depending on how the game economy is but it is the least of my concerns right now.
I wouldn't be dying it black and I don't have plans for any other char maybe some nice Kurzick or Luxon armour. I am not big on NF armour for core classes as I don't have the taste for it but I am going to see what EotN bring out first.I would have to say that FoW be exempt from ATS rewards as they have gold trimmed capes.
It is like I said it depends on what your goals are.

I have FOW for my warrior. Wore it for about 2 months, now it's sitting in storage. Now i'm wearing a combo that I love, that only cost me 20k including materials..
FOW armor use to give you respect and now it's just common.

It takes 3 months of winning every HB tourny (hah) to get 1 set of PvP 15k armour.
If FoW is available, you should be awstruck, rather than pissed off, that anyone managed to get it. Screwed? Hardly.

FoW armor is like a title in some ways. Costs about the same as some and is about as common as some. Its still not as common as some other armor types, but its certainly far more so than it used to be back in the Prophecies-only era.
Prestige symbol? Not so much. Not to me anyway. Not any more or less so than any number of titles which can also be purchased. It certainly stands for investment of time in the earnings needed to get it (because I do not ever first assume someone eBayed it). Certainly means the player has or had access to a means of good income and the dedication to see it through. I respect that always. In the end, I am always more impressed with someone's play and attitude towards others than their armor. That's the most "prestigious" thing in the game.
I got mine for my monk back when the only option for +energy armor was either tatoos or Fissure. Hated the tatoos and absolutely loved the look of female fissure. So there you go. For me it was simply ascetics. Choice of dye and if you mix with other parts and how you choose to do so is also a very nice thing to see and i look for that I admit. Fun to see what people do in that regard. Mine is a mix (Treya only wears FoW chest and pants).
