Legendary Defender of Ascalon=cool title to have, but very hard to get.
So it's kinda going both ways for me.

I disagree, at least for the first title for the drunkard. I got all my spiked eggnog from fighting guys at the christmas event, and then I drank it all while I was doing missions or aspenwood, or other things.
The ones that are completely useless would probably be 100% cartographer, unless you can get it from doing vanquisher. A lot of the others require money, so its up to you on how much you want to spend.
I recommend doing this like the vanquisher/guardian stuff. You actually fight mobs and it's not a complete grind.

if you're going for grandmaster cartographer, do it at the same time you vanquish zones. you're pretty much covering most of the map anyways. after you clear it out on HM, if you missed any spots, you can always come back on easy mode. great time saver right there.

I have LDoA and Ale-Hound on my pre-searing character, both I think are kinda ridiculous, but I like to have done things that other people havent done before.

My biggest problem with many titles is that you don't get them by PLAYING THE GAME, but by doing ridiculous things you wouldn't do anyway (like sit in town all day clicking on ales). Why the hell isn't there a quest title? There are so many quests and such little incentative to do them, but some people love questing! Why are there titles to show how many tickets you won by STANDING THERE AFK but not one to show actually playing a huge, huge part of the game?

The only real problem I have with any of the titles is that they are not retroactive. I would have alot more if they included what you'd already done prior to titles being introduced xD

well the cartography and prot titles were retro.....survivor came out too late for people to worry about it. (getting it that is....since most of us died somewheres along the path in pre-sear----charr anyone?)
I agree that the gold sink titles are pretty worthless (drunkard, sweet tooth, lucky/unlucky).
I have had a good time doing the cartographer ones though (before hm)....and seeing parts of tyria and cantha that few get to (or really want to either), but killing stuff all the way got me skill points and helped me work with my toons--fixing builds and such. Not so worthless to me (ok the last few % is ).
redoing all the missions in hm is not my cup of tea (once with 12 toons is plenty thanks) so I wont even work towards guardian, but I can see that it is a worthwhile title to get (shows you really do play the game and understand working in groups, unless you have figured out how to hench/hero it ---then that would be something to be proud of as well).

The drunkard in my opinion is ridiculous because it requires you too stand around doing nothing but drinking on a regular schedule.
Unless the boardwalk is open and you're also standing there accumulating lucky points, you're doing nothing.... and bored.

I saw someone in Pre-searing with maxed Drunkard title
EDIT: It was emoxcore, just noticed her in this very thread

What makes you think that the titles will carry over to GW2? For all we know, there might not even be such a thing as Kurzick/Luxon in GW2. wearing a title called "Friend of Who?!" seems rather...silly. Besides "reasonable" is enterily subjective, you might not be willing to do what it takes to get title X, someone else might be perfectly comfotable making uch effort..
|
Aye, but is the OP not saying that thought needs to go into GW:2 titles? Not that they will carry over... As in the titles obtainable in GW:2 need to be a little less grindtastic. I'm not sure though, I've been doing fine as it is slowly obtaining "I'm Very Important", getting max titles just means you have no life outside of the game
I was always under the impression that max titles would "unlock" special items / equipment / armor through the Hall of Monuments for use in Guild Wars 2...if that is the case some people may have to work very hard to achieve max titles in order to unlock said free things.

I would say LdoA is the silliest title, respect to anyone who has achieved it but in my view Anet really needs to change it so it doesnt require Death leveling.
Surivor titles is the only one that is ridiculious for the simple reason that they did not allow pre-titles characters the ability to ever start it.
Most titles u can earn little by little over time, theres no need to grind for them unless u happend to be in a driven title rush.

At least people were nicer to you than when i said the treasure hunter title was set too high. Anything that takes three years to achieve is a bit much, and then they go and set lightbringer at 50k--achievable in a month in hm.
I have 13.8 million xp on my main character, and i play 10 hours a day on average, chest run/farming most of it, and i am in the mid 2000s for wisdom/treasure hunter, and after the ab weekend, i dont even want to think about faction point max. Yes it should be a challenge, for sure, but drop some of the title maxes down a little.

Lot's of silly ones. I would like to have the option to get LDoA by actually *playing* the game. Say getting enought XP in 3 hours playing to match a night spent AFK death levelling.

the hardest titles and the ones that should be lowered abit are, IMHO, the wisdom and tresure hunter title. also i have found the guardian and SS/LB titles the easiest to get.

from my own experience, I'd say that anythign involving time and money is rediculous or hard, anything else is just experience,
PVP, no matter the title is a case of being in a good guild and being a good player, take the time and you will max them eventually.
most pve are a case of time and experience, Survivor, Cartographer, Skill, and Protector/Guardian and vanquisher are all achievable with dedicated time.
The rediculous ones to me are Lucky/Unlucky, Alehound and Sweet tooth most, as they involve standing about and spending a lot of cash to get them usually. Next up would be Wisdom and Treasure hunter as they are simply based on lots of money, and luck, money to buy keys or golds and luck in getting gold dropped or from chests. Not only that but they also take ages with 10,000 the max title.
Legendary defender os a class of its own showing dedication but also willingness to go afk for ages to level creatures.

Cheesy my foot. I've been working on my survivor for a solid month now. I'm a few 100k Xp away from Lvl 3, and it's been anything but safe. Quests and missions, with my Guildie survivor partner...
Don't generalize something you can't do.
Money titles are all pretty crazy. One is bad enough, but there's several. Atm, I would say that the Lucky/Unlucky title is the worst. Besides lockpicks, the only way to improve is every few months when they have a boardwalk weekend. I'm fairly sure no one has max on that one yet. I don't think it's possible yet. The wiki calculations say 3,611 hrs. playing games, (minus the time you won on lockpicks)
They've only had what, 3-4 weekends....

As far as titles go it's kinda not that importaint to me. I mean I'll run around and get Protector/Gaurdian titles BUT I try to keep it continentanal. (Example I'm not gonna bring my Tyrian character to go get Lightbringer in Elona)
I also usually stick to titles that have almost no grind and also benifit outside of the 'I worked hard and acheivied this cool tag under name!' range (Lightbringer,Treasure/Wisdom Hunter)
So without further ado!!!
Ridiculous:
Legendary Defender of Ascalon
Legendary Survivor
Drunkard Titles
Sweet Tooth
Reasonable:
Lightbringer/Sunspear <----- (I'm DIEING for the new skills)
Wisdom/Treasure Hunter
All PvP titles that add to your total Balthazar faction.

What GW2 Titles?
using GW2 to grind-rant about titles is a thinly veiled excuse imo.

Rank 15 Hero is the most outlandish in my opinion. I'm willing to bet that NOBODY will ever get there with the new HoH mechanics. Leeloof is the closest and he's still like 40k fame away.
