Question weapon upgrade of Slaying question...

Guildwiki states the following:

Quote:
A weapon upgrade of <Species>slaying provides the following bonus to the weapon (the user respectively)
Lets say i have a sword with a 20% Demonslaying pommel on it. What I want to know is this: Does the extra 20% damage count only when I hit a demon with the sword, or does it apply to any damage i do (including direct spell damage) to the demon?

The Guildwiki statement seems to indicate both the actual weapon, AND the user, which could mean that the damage bonus applys to any and all damage that the user does to a demon.

Anyone know the actual answer? I'm curious.

I was wondering this the otherday, because a staff wrapping of demonslaying may actually be worthwhile...

Ok, Arashikei and his shiny new Ascalon Razor ventured out into the scorched desolation fearful Ascalonians refer to as 'the Breach'... Found a nice, plump charr Ash Walker...

POW! Blinding Surge! 122 damage!

Arashikei unsheathed his sword... "Here goes..."
POW! Another Surge! ...
...
...
*drum roll*
...
...
122 Damage! So, no... spell damage is unaffected by X-slaying mods. And Arashikei got singed charrflesh on his crisp robes... are you happy now? It'll take hours to clean off the ash

Thx for testing!

Damn, that makes "staff wrappings of slaying" particularly useless. Who in their right mind is going attack a monster and NOT use spells?

Well, wanting/stafing while you are waiting for recharges or not having anything better to do is never bad idea.

Right, thats obviously the case, but given the choices available to a caster with a staff to upgrade, why would you choose a Slaying mod over a fortitude, +1 attribute, longer enchants, or faster cast/recharge?

There is no reason XD exept mabay for a weapon swap for the reason of having nothing better to do . Then again i dont see a reason to take increase bleeding +33% or reduce bleeding 20% either . Lots of upgrades are like that. Although this could be a tad powerful if applied to spells.

Eh, just as useless as a 15^50 inscription.

im pretty sure the damage applies (20%vsmod) when you are in a wurm as i was doing more damage with a dmg 20%vsdemons sword equipped...

As Fauna pointed out normal wurm attacks do get affected, since the game treats it just like wanding (so the 40 damage per attack becomes 48). Got to love my deathbane sword.

Ummm No.

He tested spell dmg with the mod on the sword, if it was against a charr and you had the mod on a staff your wanding would dmg would increase by 20%, and it doesn't mean for certain that spells are uneffected by the staff mod.
Sorry the scientist in me is raging, you'll need to test a staf mod against the slaying creature with spell dmg.
But I have a feeling that it would only increase dmg on staff attacks and wanding.

Personally I would go with what better for my build, a mastery mod or a energy mod.

well, I know that the "extends weakness durration by 33%" axe i have on my necro works on spells. I took her to the isle fo the nameless, and cast weakness with my regular staff. Weakness lasted as per spell description (21 seconds). I cast it again with the axe in hand, it lasted 7 seconds longer. So some melee weapons do indeed affect spells when they are equiped. Whether this works with the "slaying" mods, I cannot say.

I carry around a 15^50 staff for when I don't need to be casting (monk) for both PVP and PVE.

1. No it doesn't, it's just to actually notice that 1% you need to hit someone who is naked frenzy heal sigging.

2. I've never seen a 14^50 inscription for sale, and 15^50 are only 4-5k at most. Hardly bank breaking.

Vilaptca, you forgot to customize it for additional 20% dmg. The dragons will die fast since your wintergreen staff deal +55% damages.
