I kept the old thread bookmarked.
I think around 60% of...stuff with this combo will appear black:
Green
Yellow
Purple
Blue
Whole thread's here.

I tried the combo on my derv but showed up as teal instead. On some armors, grey + red + blue + black looks pretty decent but still a little greyish.

I think it would be nice to have the dye trader *swap* out new color dyes for old dyes. My 15k glads only has 1 piece of the old black, which looks awesome, i dont wanna dye the chest and the arm to be pitch black with all of the shininess But i really like the new black on armors like alot of the assassin ones and 1k tyrian ele armor.

A sympathize with you Cathode... I absolutely abhor the 'new' black, especially on a lot of cloth armours and warrior armour - totally kills the detail.
Can't remember exactly what combos I use, suffice to say most of them use purple... I'd just try buying a whole bunch of colours, and playing around, different armours take different 'black' combos.

You guys do realise that "old black" was darker than it is now before the dye update right? After the update all old dyes that were on armors/weapons were lightened.
Here's an old pic before the update and notice how the black scar is darker than it is now on my "old black" scar.
Before update:
After update:
You can see how the dye was lightened, so "old black" now isn't actually what old black looked like before the update.
But anyway, here's a combo I cooked up that looks like the "old black" after the update, I don't know if it looks black on other armor, but it looks black on the necro face scars.

On a vast majority of armors it is impossible to reproduce the old black, or even more, impossible to get any deep dark color. Some combinaions may give a dark grey which some people think it resembles the old black. In most cases it's far from it. Also, dark colors possible before the system change by simply mixing 1 black with 1 colored dye were darker than 3 blacks + that color is now (on most armors, but there are always exceptions). And if you want something darker, like 2-3 blacks+color before nerf, nonono, you won't get it, forget about it. Now its either an uber dark black or
Those problems are due to a certain well tested by me flaw/bug in the new dye mixing system. The problem is basically that the colors that are used for determining the mixed color aren't the ones you expect and see, but are those you can see in preview by adding just 2 of the same color.
Just add only 2 blacks and you'll see why you can't get good dark colors anymore - the 'black' used for mixing is far from the new black, its closer to the old but brightier or more blueish. Same with white, the 2x white color is often a quite dark grey.
I have a couple armors on which adding black to a mix actually makes the color *brighter* and also ones on which adding a White makes the color *darker*. Unbelievable? The reasons explained just a few lines above!

I know how you guys feel, I can't reproduce the pink on my female el's armor anymore.
BTW, the current black is darker when it is just black, but a lot lighter when mixed.

I agree that the new black is utterly repulsive on most armors, its TO DARK. Seriously i wonder why they even changed it in the first place, totally escapes my rational grasp of thoughts..

i wonder how black + silver would look... black tends to hide details, but silver is used to enhance them...

I really wish they would fix the whole dye problem, mixing is buggy and white and silver and black need complete overhauls to be done correctly. Silver may try to make metallic effects in dyes on "metal armor" and do what its "supposed to" on "cloth armor", but overall its basically a gray-white with a blue/purple off color within it during mixes. White is a joke when you try to mix it, and black fails to be black at all when you mix it. They don't mix the way they should and its been like this since before nightfall came out. My honest guess is, they wanted players to be able to make a "grim reaper" dyed dervish and quickly changed dyes so a pitch black dye would be available, but they didn't even check the mixing system.
They even gave us the wonderful dye preview, without TESTING the mixing system... come on........
What seriously made me mad and still continues to is the fact that Gaile either completely lied or just ignorantly said that dyes mix correctly, and we should beable to get all dye mixes as previously (like the blood red dye on necros - which CANNOT be reproduced since the update). Like i said, she either lied by the fact of not testing herself and saying so, or was told by the developers that it was supposed to be working right, when in reality it was not and continues not to till this day.
Whats worse is the dye preview interface update out-shined the issue of dye combinations and dye results when feedback was all over the forums. It would be nice to raise the issue again and ask for it to be fixed but who the hell knows what they know about it. Gaile never really commented that Anet knows that white and black dye do not mix properly, they basically do the opposite of their expected effects but even do that poorly.
edit: Oh yeah, and gray was supposed to be just like dye remover was. HAH! YEAH RIGHT, they may have said that it was supposed to be used that way, but then they went and made EVERY armor created start with gray as the base color. Its honestly bull-behind-droppings to say the least.

Red green and blue gives a dark gray/teal color.
But yeah, they screwed up the dye system a bit too much. The fact that they removed dye remover also changed most dye mixes.

Dye system seems fine to em, but then again I have no fetish to dye everything black (only one armor I got is black) The only thing I really wish for is that the armors would not be brought grey, some of the colours they came in looked decent.
There is a whole rainbow of colour folk.
