Generally, gamers in Asia still prefer grinding game to PvP heavy game. That's why Lineage and WoW are popular there.
In Korea :
As competitive game : Starcraft is religion there, GW has no chance.

And don't forget one of the most important thing : language.
Unlike in Europe or America, people can communicate quite easily because they can speak English, French, etc.. fluently, languages in Asia are very different among each other from alphabet, syntax, pronunciation that almost only gamers in the same country can play with each other.
And the community in each country is so small that it will die slowly despite that maybe the whole total GW players in Asia is not small.

Koreans like grindu. Popular games in Korea are not popular in the U.S, like RF online or any other grinder. 10% an hour exp is good to them. Are you sure WoW is popular there? It's really easy leveling compared to any Korean mmorpg and the graphics don't stand up to their grinders. Oh yeah graphics are important to them also but GW has good graphics. Are'nt the Koreans the ones that always win the Guild Wars tournaments? They even dressed up as all monks before I think to go to the tournament.

Coming from South East Asia, i agree with the ppl who say that GW is not very popular simply for the fact that piracy is rampant and the plethora of free online games. I mention piracy because we can get pirated single player games like Elders, Need for Speed etc for the price of USD$1 each CD. I've even seen a pirated version of WoW where you don't need to have an internet connection as you play by urself. Unless you're earning an above average salary or your parents give you a lot of pocket money, i doubt many South East Asians can afford buying original games.

I'm not going to mention the teasing and the horror on their faces if your friends find out you bought an original game that costs 32x more than the the pirated version.

Many places in europe are like this, especially in eastern europe where I lived.
