I have 11, one of each profession plus an extra young monk. So? It's my account and my choice. Others' opinions on that particular factoid not needed or particularly welcomed.
I'm having fun. Maybe if those other folks were paying more attention to their own games, they wouldn't be so upset over yours. :shrugs:

Question - I'm interested in how you find the motivation to play through the game so many times? At most I've had 3 level 20's..and it was a struggle to find the energy to drag them through.

But the GW characters have too many polygons and textures!
IMO calling them "toons" is an insult to the art department. Even at low res they put a lot of MMOs to shame in the detail department. I am pretty sure all of you have seen the concept artwork as well.
One of the reasons why I am disappointed GW:EN won't have collector's edition is lack of an art book (sold separately maybe...).

Lately though as I have been playing all of my 11 characters for an hour or two here and there I have gotten pm's from 4 different people who added me asking how many characters I have. When I told them 3 pm'd back about how I could not be an effective GW player with so many characters to manage. Then I got the usual "noobie" because I disagree.
I explained I enjoy having more instead of switching secondaries and that 4 were over 2 years old, 3 over a year, 2 almost a year and only 2 being very new low level characters.
It does not bother me that people don't like it and I don't really care what people call me but I wonder does anyone else have this issue cause they have many characters?
Why would anyone care?

Who are you?
I don't see anyone caring that you have that many characters...
I have 13 slots myself, 10 of which are PvE chars. So what?

Ever heard of the phrase...
"A little good at everything, but really good at nothing."
Honestly, it's totally up to your playstyle. If you like playing your characters "casually" by switching based on what you want to play at any given moment...that's your perogative.
I have four characters that I play almost exclusively for about a month at a time. Because I focus solely on them during that period, I feel that I've "gotten to know" them better, understanding and experimenting with skill combinations that I would've have gotten to know if I switched to my other characters whenever I desired to.
Again, it's totally up to what you like - and it seems that you've found your "niche". People like to force their own views on others - especially in a multiplayer game like this.

Each class can be played multiple ways, and some attributes (especially in the caster classes) play so differently from the others within a given class, it might as well be a whole new profession. Normally we take advantage of all the options available to a class and take the path of least resistnance through a set of obstacles. But have you ever taken a pure Deadly Arts sin through Factions? I haven't, but I'm sure it's a unique experience. I've got an Elonian necro that only knows Blood and SR. He's an interesting diversion from my other characters, and extremely cheap to maintain. The difference between playing that character and an MM is obviously stark. The point is, I paid for all those play options when I bought the game. So I think of it as getting my money's worth.
Not that I have 11 toons, but I can see how others might have that many and more. Now to go roll up a DA sin and see what that's all about...

...what exactly prevents you from simply... putting your necro's points into blood and SR only? There is no need to go make a whole new character... just change attribute points?

lol not effective my ass!
I have 10 characters, one of each prof, and so far I have every prime skill for/on my warrior, assassin, dervish, almost necro, paragon, and ritualist.
I don't care for being an effective ranger past barrage and the proph basic elites. Mesmer is in slowmotion atm, and monk i'm bored with atm. So yeah, oh and i still hate elementalists lol slow casting "beach".
Thats all i used this topic for, bragging i guess...pretty useless other wise! :P

usually its buying the "pro" in my eyes of cool armor for a character, then later its for money purposes (end game greens etc) then its for elites and anything else i feel like. half of my characters have beat all 3 chapters so they have what they could want.
if your looking for motivation, think about what you want... look cool? Money? Perfectionist (all skills)? I'm a personal combination of those.

I have 12 character slots, all of which are full with PvE characters. I'm thinking about getting another slot for PvP, but each time I do that, It turns into a PvE character....

I had a friend who had 16 characters back when there was only Phrophecies (4 different accounts).
I'd ignore those idiots (they are probablly guys who only play 3 characters, a A/Mo, a W/Mo, and a D/Mo )

I have 10 different characters, one for each class, and all of them have beaten all three campaigns. I find it EXTREMELY useful to do this, both from the perspective of being able to max up your heros' builds, and from the perspective of knowing how each class is played so that you can best synergize with your team. I'm not sure how over-specializing in one class can help you, more than possibly mastering the aspects of playing just that class more so that if you diversify... but I think the diversification is far more advantageous.

Honestly, the motivation is how much fun I have doing it. Believe it or not, I actually have fun playing Guild Wars. I get bored easily, usually, and to keep myself from getting bored, I continuously change characters, doing whatever it is they need to do. Even if it's a mission I've done 5 times, if i hadn't done it on my Mesmer, it will be a new experience, and almost as fun as it was the first time I ever did it. If I don't have masters on any character, that's something else I can do.
I'm not shooting for any specific titles. I'm not trying to build up wealth. I'm not attempting to look "uber leet" for anyone. I'm playing strictly for fun. I honestly have never understood the motivation behind building up titles and wealth in-game. Neither are very fun, IMO, and suggests a lot of grinding and/or power trading. I'd rather be getting my teeth drilled at the dentist's office than do either of those.
In other words, the motivation is fun. Imagine that, having fun in a video game. I must be a total moron, huh?

i have 12 characters on one account, 5 on my 2nd account, and 6 on my 3rd account. the 3rd account isnt played much if at all. i bought that account before slots could be purchased for extra storage.
my main account has one of each profession. my primary characters played are my ranger and monk. both over 2mil xp and the only 2 that have completed all 3 games. 2 other characters have completed 2 of 3 games and the rest are scattered throughout the 3 games. of the characters on that account i have 2 mesmers and 2 rangers. my 2nd ranger is going for survivor and is a possible replacement for my main ranger. i wont delete him but probably turn him into a mule. my 2nd mesmer is in pre and havent decided if ill perma pre her or advance her through the game.
my 2nd account was purchased because when i first started guild wars 4 slots werent enough to have one of each character and i didnt want to kill off anyone to try out something else. it had my first ele and necro on it plus a 2nd monk for farming purpose. when factions came out i created my first Rit and another ranger. this account has since been move to europe's servers but hardly used now too.

myself, i have 10 pve characters and 3 pvp characters on one account with another 37 characters on 4 or 5 more accounts. i'm currently in the process of turning one of them into a pre searing only account with 1 of each profession for pre.
i've had some people ask me why i have so many characters and its because going through the game with different professions is a different experience each time and i need the storage space. makes me a better player if i understand each profession well and can play effectively with each.

That's my point exactly. Maybe if some of the pvpers that whine about how certain builds are overpowered would shut up & play that build they would see how many counters there actually are to beat it.

Nah, not at all. I don't see it as disrespectful any more than calling X-Men a "comic book". There are many comic books that have nothing to do with comic material what-so-ever. Toon is simply another word for Avatar, and carries no cheeky connotations at all. It has nothing to do with what the avatar looks like in the least, just the fact that it's a non-realistic (or fantastical) representation of the player.
Like you, I am always taken back by the art and graphics in GW. It's probably one of the top 3 reasons I love GW, actually. They have some mad talent in their art department, no doubts.

GW is my first MMO and I've mabaged to pick up the term "toon" for my ... toons, so its definitely not anachronistic lexicon. The term "head" is the other odd one that I see bandied about (such as "brb changing heads").
And for the record I run with 10 PVE toons with ~30% spent on my warrior and the rest divided evenly. I take the opposite tact and look sideways at people that have empty character slots.
