Am I just that slow?
Okay, I've been playing Guild Wars for about a year and a half now and only just recently had a character complete the Prophecies campaign. I've not done much with Factions and don't even have Nightfall as of yet. I love playing the game, but I'm astounded when I hear about people who have already beaten all 3 campaigns with however many characters they have, which is usually several.
It's just odd, so many people are saying that GW will be dead before GW2, possibly dead already. But I still have so much of Guild Wars to enjoy yet.
I don't understand. How do you guys go through it so quick? And more importantly, why?
*throws peanuts to the gallery*

There are people who want to zoom through the content as fast as they can, I guess they take it as a challenge. My cousin is like that, two or three days after Nightfall was released, he had completed it. He is planning to do the same with Eye of the North.
I don't like that kind of approach. Like you, I also like to take my time, at least the first time around. When I get later chars through, I don't want to waste any unnecessary time to do unimportant quests I already did my first time through :P

Once you've been through the game a couple of times it seems routine. I'm sure I could do Cantha blindfolded these days. The more you know something the quicker you can do it, and it applies with the game also...so each character goes through the game quicker and quicker
I have at least one of every profession finished all 3 campaigns, so why do I go through so fast? *shrugs*...After a while I can't be bothered to do rewardless side-quests, I want to unlock elites from further on through the game which is an incentive to keep going, and when someone from the alliance asks for help I like a variety of characters to choose from in order to help them.
You can never go through the game too slow...because everyone's play-style is different... So long as you're having fun and you're happy it's all good

I took my Ele through Nightfall as quickly as possible. I would have liked to enjoy the side quests a bit more on the way I suppose, but getting through so quickly means so much is unexplored. You can't just go to Wiki for the answers... When you find something only a handful of people have found before it's a boost. I don't regret going through quickly, but I don't plan to do it with Eye of the North.

Those are the two camps. I find it amusing when people that choose the former path exclaim "there's nothing to do!".
I am definitely a "take it slow" guy, and I try to do every quest available before I move on to the next area, even on my 2nd and 3rd characters.
For my four characters, each one has completed only two campaigns. I'm trying to make my Ritualist the first one to complete the trifecta before GW:EN is released...not sure if I'll make it though (and I have over a month to complete Nightfall with her!!!!).

I suppose if you did ALL the quests and such, it could take quite a while.. however, most of these quests reward you with mainly experience, sometimes a minimal amount of gold or a rather useless item. Personally, once I hit level 20 on a character, I don't bother with quests unless the reward is something particularly useful. It's not worth it to spend 30 minutes on a quest just for some XP and a bit of gold that I could probably have made in 5 minutes farming. Most of the missions are pretty straightforward, completed by taking your time, not aggroing multiple mobs, and perhaps making an adjustment to your build here and there as the situation warrants.. however even that is not completely necessary, as I can get through a mission like Hell's Precipice, where the enemies are strong vs fire, using my typical fire ele build.
Ignoring the side quests, if you do a mission or primary quest per day, I can't see it taking more than a couple months to get through prophecies, which contains the most missions out of the 3 campaigns.

So it's not just me. Thank goodness! I don't mind so much redoing the quests with new characters because different skills are used. Though, admittedly, yesterday, I pushed a new ele to post and didn't do most of the quests in pre. My main reason for doing that was because all my guildies are post and I've been wanting a good ele to play with. Guild Wars is more fun when I can play with friends. Plus, I like having one of each, a variety of chars to use.
Thanks for the responses, guys! I don't feel so slacker-ish now.
GodofAcid, if I did the quests only for rewards, then yeah, I guess I would get sour towards them too. But I do them for the fun of doing it.
I guess it all depends on your goals for the game. Me, I'm just in it to play.

I'm a "take it slow and enjoy the journey" type as well. I do all the side quests. Seeing a green ! above someone's head for any length of time would drive me nuts. If I see a green ! I have to take the quest. I also hate a cluttered quest log. I'll generally clear out all side quests before continuing on the primary track. As a result I still some territory left to complete.
I bought Factions only last September (my first game) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Prophecies soon followed and I got Nightfall in November. I left Nightfall alone for awhile since I preferred to complete the earlier games first. My first character was an Assassin and like most new players, I really sucked at playing an Assassin. I created her as an Assassin/Ranger and discovered i was using the bow much more than daggers.
So, I created a Factions Ranger and a Factions Necro. I never developed into a mm however. I thought the Blood attribute was way cooler and played her as a blood degen necro primarily. She's fallen into disuse a bit mainly because most players insist that you play as an mm or you're kicked.
When I installed Prophecies, I created a warrior, The Scarlet Raven and Scarlet has since become my main character. She's finished Prophecies and Factions (the only character to finish any game) and she's my main title hunter.
I also have an Elonian Elementalist. I spent the first month or 2 trying to find semi-modest clothing for her and she is now my second main character. She's advanced as far as the Gate of Pain in Nightfall, Droks in Prophecies and House Zu Heltzer in Factions. She will probably be the first character to finish NF unless Scarlet catches up.
I take the philosophy that the first character thru a campaign will go everywhere and do everything. They will poke around in every nook and cranny looking for quests that might otherwise be missed. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc characters will do the quests they find but otherwise will not go out of their way to find them.
I currently play my warrior and elementalist the most. My ranger, necro and a new monk are played occasionally and I hope to complete all 3 campaigns with each. The assassin is now my mule. Poor thing, she never even made it to level 20.

I have all 3 campaigns, have beaten Prophecies and Factions and I am working at Nightfall at my normal slow pace. There is no rush for me to finish, the fact I am still playing the same game for 2 years is a miracle in itself. All people find enjoyment in different ways and there is no wrong way to play, just keep doing what you like and enjoy.

The first time I beat phrophecies with my main character It took me a year. Reasons for it was I got distracted with other stuff in Guild Wars (farming and exploring) and it takes longer to level up in prophecies.

I've been spending the last nine months playing Nightfall. Only just last week entered the Realm of Torment (which puts me at 80% of completing the game?) I don't play that often (has its ups and downs, but about 4-6 hours per week average if I'm lucky?), but yeah, mostly like people above it's thoroughly exploring regions and doing all the quests (a lot of unimaginative ones, but the occasional gems like the "Double Dog Dare" quest make it totally worthwhile; plus even the unimaginative quests often add quite some depth to the storyline), and if there's a weekend event, my progress through the main storyline stalls for another week.
I have a couple of additional characters that I created just because I like building characters - one is level 5 or so on the newbie island in Factions, and another is level 7 (?) in pre-searing; the others have barely finished the tutorial mission.
I bought Factions and Prophecies before I had a complete understanding of how vast this game is, just because I liked Nightfall (and because they were cheap-ish). I don't intend to be buying EotN anytime soon.
I think the majority of GuildWars players are actually like us. It's just that those who have lots of time to play the game - completing it multiple times - are also those most likely to seek out and spend time on forums like this, so over here you can easily get the impression that the slower playing style is rare.

Well on my ranger i still havent gotten past the ring of fire in proph. Hes the closest one to finishing prophecies and i have had it for 25 months :O but ive beaten factions 5 times and nf twice. i dont get how people can finish every game 11 times lol. But yeah its not just you:P
I beat factions(finally) 4 months after release. After that i loved it so much i beat it 4 more times after that quickly.

I am slower then most. My oldest is a bit over 2 and I am just now doing the titan quest, its hard to find a group for them so that's part of why they are not done. I don't consider Prophecies done until those are done.
However that same character has beat Factions and Nightfall. I did not rush them but I did less exploring then I have done in Tyria. I just started to explore those places while I work on groups for titan quest. My other characters are in different stages of the game maps.
I have a blast though with all kinds of people so I don't plan on changing my game play anytime soon.
Be well and happy hunting

After 25 months 1 character has finished prophecies, she's one or 2 missions away from finishing factions and probably half-way through nightfall
I only finished prophecies a few months back so I could try out Hard Mode lol and other than her I have 1 level 20 warrior in Riverside Province (lol) a level 16 monk somewhere, level 6 Mesmer in Kamadan, level 3 Dervish and a PvP slot lol
With this approach I'll probably be nearly finished with GW:EN when GW2 comes out lol

For my first character that I brought through all 3 chapters I did every single quest.
For consequent characters I have pretty much rushed them though and only done the primary quests but have accepted all other quests.
The way I reckon is that it's nice to have more options - I have the option of doing anything once I have the town on the map.
Including FF, farming, chest running and side quests at my leisure.
As a result nearly all my characters have about 2 chapters done...

This all makes me feel so much better. Thanks, everyone! I was so worried there wouldn't be people to play with soon!
Mask, I actually, still need to do two of the Titan quests (Denravi(?) and The Last Day Dawns), but as you say, it's hard to get groups for those. And they are TOUGH.

Ill try to hook up with you I have done LDD but I can do it again, So I need North K and Denravi...
The easiest character ign I have is Look Behind Thee (mez) but it is my warrior that needs these quest. If you add then name above you should see me whatever character I am on.
It will be a couple of days before I will have the free time to sit and do them.
*sigh* I would be done with North K if I had known I could keep going after the guy was dead!
See you in game Happy Hunting

I'd like to join you as well. I'm usually online from 8-10pm EST. I still have North Kryta and Denravi to finish. It's definitely tough to find groups for those. If you see The Scarlet Raven (or any of my other chars) online, just holler.

guild wars is dead due to the pvp scene being dead. No game lives by pvers because honestly, there isn't as much interpersonal interaction in pve as there is pvp. Since the pvp is dying/dead, people realize this game is also dying.
