So by not killing BOT users ( Which this was intended to hurt ) they kill a game ? LMAO !!!!
Log onto Battlenet someday where they let BOTS and CHEATS run wild. The server LAGG there is so bad I have an 11 year old neice that doesn't even play online because it sucks so bad. Let's just have 1000's of BOT users run wild and kill our server band width. Personally I enjoy the fact I have to work to get what I have. Let's also just get everything in this game within the first few weeks.... think that might cause some boredom and kill the game too ?
So by you not getting exactly what you want it's ruined the game ? That is pretty much what your stating isn't it ? Welcome to life

Gwen will keep me busy for at least 3-5 months (I hope). Then we will hopefully get some type of awesome update like Furnace,DOA which will give gwen a nice little boost. I know many of you think that Anet is dumb but they are not stupid and why would they want to lose most of their fanbase before a sequel, but you never know maybe they might want the old GW to die so people will be forced to buy the new version.

As irked as I've felt with Anet over some of their decisions, I still love Guild Wars. Honestly, the game's just fun. I've been annoyed with some of the "anti-farming" (Okay, I know, supposedly it's "exploitive" to farm, but honestly, they built the capability into the game. I think bots are the problem, not private individuals farming for personal profit. I know, I know, "there are other places to farm," but shouldn't a lot of the original places still be around? The bots only move to new places and only increase in number when Anet removes a farming place. For instance, if you have a lot of bots at Arborstone and Anet removes that place as a source of income, forcing botters to find a less satisfactory farming spot - I can't imagine what that would be, though - a lot of botters would have to increase their numbers to make up for the loss in income they suffered moving from Arborstone to a less lucrative spot. Thus not only do the number of bots get increased, the attempt to stifle farming hurts those who do it for themselves and themselves only. But I digress.) actions they've taken. And I've not really cared for some of the tampering they've done with the economy, but it's still a solid game. I don't see it dying before GW2 is out at all. And I would think it wouldn't be that hard (I can think of a couple ideas in my head) to link GW and GW2 together sufficiently enough to keep some of the spark left in the original Guild Wars. I won't pretend that the new game won't distract a lot of people from the original, but that's only natural and doesn't mean that the original is a bad game. Just that the new one is preferable, or at least enough of a fad to attract attention.
And I have to say I'm highly amused by the constant proclamations - pretty much going back to the time Anet had monsters start running from specific skills and spells - that the game is dead. And yet, a lot of people kept playing. And, more importantly for Anet, is that a lot of people purchased other games in the series. What really confuses me, though, is why people show up in this forum to whine and complain about everything Anet does. These people clearly play the game, and they've clearly played it for a long enough time to remember the "old days" of GW. The only other thing that bugs me more than the complaints is the attitude some of these people have. They show up just to ruin everyone else's fun and put people down. And that, in my opinion, is far more unproductive than the worst whining and complaining. If you don't like the game, vote with your feet and play something else. If you truly believe Anet and Guild Wars suck, the loss of players (people say the number of players doesn't matter as long as the games sell, but if players start dropping out, they would have to revitalize the game - and fast - to keep people coming in) and new purchases is the only way to get them to change. Being rude and whining on Guru all day is not as effective as quiting and telling all your friends to not buy the game.
Well. I've said my piece. -_- I usually keep my mouth shut around here, but this topic just pushed me over the edge. Sorries, ay.

lootscaling did nothing but hurt the normal player.
it did not affect botters one bit.
you want 1000's of bots? altrum ruins, granite citadel, bergen hotsprings.
and thats just 3 of the towns they use.
please, if you wish to enter an argument, know what your talking about.
and if anet REALLY wanted to kill botters, they'd just nerf the base build skills and not mess around.
namely prot spirit.

I think there will be GW1 players active as long as A.net/NCsoft leave GW1 servers active.
Because of the HoM, players will use GW1 to gain some titles for their GW2 chars.
GW1 is light, works well also on mid-level machines, it's a very good game overall, and not all GW1 players have all 3 campaigns + GW:EN today, so they can possibly buy in the future a campaign they missed and play it.
But another thing that could make the game live for several years would be if A.net released a design toolkit, like TES editor, and allowed players to create maps, missions and so on. Maybe, also a contest for the best maps or dungeons, which could be made available to all players on A.net servers.
Another thing they could do is to make the server software free, so that the game could be hosted by fan groups who like to continue playing even if A.net deosn't want to keep their servers active.

It amuses me every time when I read all those "the game is already dead" and the "this killed the game", no wait, "that killed the game" statements.
Some people must have a very different definition for "dead" than I have. I can't argue with anybody who doesn't enjoy the game anymore, for whatever reasen. It is a matter of taste after all. But a game that is played by thousands and thousands of people all around the clock surely isn't "dead", is it?
As for the original question: I expect Guild Wars to stick around for quite a long time. It will of course continue to live in the shadows, as by far the most of Anets attention will go to GW2.

In two years time most of the current player base will be too old to play GW or any other game, and there'll be a new group of super-cool 13 year olds who will want the newest and coolest games. So they will go for GW2.

How old is too old?

So yeah, how old is too old to play?

You are forgetting the new breed of forum users - group 3.
That is - group one that turned into group two because of the stupid actions A.net took.
Well, except the part about getting 10 years younger.

Look at the kind of support Factions has been getting since the release of Nightfall, and you have a pretty good guess of GW1's fate.

Guild Wars 2 will save Guild Wars.
As long as Guild Wars 2 makes Anet lots of money (which it should), they'll have the extra money to keep the Guild Wars servers up.
Plus, if the Hall of Monuments gives really cool stuff from Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2; then some people will still play a little Guild Wars just to get stuff for Guild Wars 2.
But, yeah, obviously it will be much quieter in Guild Wars when Guild Wars 2 goes Gold.

yeah i really dont understand all these ppl who take the time to post crap about a game they dont like, on the games fansite. if you actually read the original post you would understand that i love this game, and you telling me how much you hate it means absolutely nothing to me.
oh wait, guild wars is already dead? anet killed guild wars? i hate it now!
seriously, like squan said, if you dont like guild wars delete your characters and go play another game. dont waste your time littering our discussions with your whining and complaining.

Most, if not all, of Anet’s resources will eventually have to be diverted to GW2. GW1 will become a money sink for them, so I believe they’ll have to eventually shut down the servers. When is anybody’s guess, but I hope it’s a very long time from now. Anyone outside of Anet who is saying when it’ll happen with any certainty is, frankly, full of poo.
And what’s with all the obits declaring GW is already dead? Maybe it is for you guys, but I’m still enjoying the game and still see A LOT of other people playing. If you’ve stopped playing GW, that’s fine, but don’t declare it dead because YOU’VE stopped playing.

Yeah they need to nerf more. Nerf monks, the only class they have'nt nerfed yet. GW2 will kill GW. PvP in GW1 Broken (only RA survives), GW2 not yet broken. PvE GW1 - Easy and almost completed with titles. If you look at the districts during the holiday they've been going down. First Mad King event: around 145s and Wintersday slightly higher. Last Dragon Festival 50 districts. Once you buy their campaigns it's the same as paying a monthly fee except paying the 50 at once instead of over the period of time you play. Money saved: No persistance. So yeah they let it die until they make a new campaign or new game like GW2.
