I THINK I heard a way out of this: Report your own name and request a name change. It apparently avoids the ban but you get the rename. And yes, that name is definitely going to get a ban if some one else beats you to the report.

Of course, to make sure absolutely nobody was offended maybe ANet should give every character a "name" comprising of a random combination of letters and numbers. There...that would be fun right? That wouldn't be taking "no offensive names" too far? Well...maybe mathematicians might be offended that their beautiful numbers were mixed with dirty letters... new plan is needed I think.

I was never temp banned for an offensive name but I tried to put 'Jewel' as part of a character name and it wouldn't allow it. After about half an hour I realised it had 'Jew' in it which must make it anti-semitic.

In the Euro districts you should see some of the non-English swearing, racism and downright sick names. I guess NCSoft don't have translators. :P

Aperently Icann means "Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers" I think it's a copyright name. :P

I took german as a second language and from only 3 years of 40 minute classes I know enough to understand some words/ phrases and people have extremely offensive names, racist, prejudice the whole 9 yards. Heck, people in HA spam 3 rows of Swastika symbols, and I don't think they were using them in any other method then to provoke people because of the bad thing the swastika symbolizes. Oh wait, I'm supposed to report these people? Yeah right a net, how about you send me a paycheck then we'll talk. Oh maybe you want me to give you a list of names, the 1000-2000 bots that visit citadel everyday. AHAHHAAHHAHAHAHA

They don't let you use "Cannabis" either.

I've seen all sorts of crazy names, like Fah Q Bich and all sorts of crap.

It's odd though. I once had a character with the word "Satan" in it and no one seemed to care (I deleted her though).

I think "Icanna Spell" means "I cannot spell".... but they shouldn't ban that person for that.

Eh, my girlfriend got her pvp character nuked for the name "Corpselover Mary" - no ban, no rename, just an erased pvp character.

Well I will say that if the character I am worried about is the target then you are also going to need to worry as well.

The character I am talking about is my sweet Ritualist "Holy McBoobies". Is it immature? Yes. Do I think its vulgar? No. Is in unacceptable in a game? Only if it were rated "E for Everyone", not "T for Teen". It is unbecoming of a man who has a "professional job" and a fiancé who rolls her eyes at him on a daily basis for it? Yup. Could someone be offended by it? Yes....but not if they have played Guild Wars for more than 7 minutes, I cannot believe anyone that would be offended by the name would be willing to tolerate the character models in this game.

No, not in a game where you have to go to great lengths to get a female character that does NOT look like a prostitute. Not where ANet has paid programmers and modelers to put a THONG on a female assassin (and an unstated hero of Ascalon from some threads I have seen), to create sets of elementalist armor sets whose boobs are held in place by nothing more than the collective will of mothers across the globe, to create a set of ranger armor whose very designs separates the rest of the world from said rangers nether regions by nothing more than a strip of leather and a windless day. Not when developers have joked in interview about how sexy the female models are and have stopped within an inch of saying "sex sells" and going on to talk about how awesome naked underwhere parties are in the game.

No, if my character is getting an account suspension for not showing sexual reserve then I call foul on this one. If “Holy McBoobies” is the bar where “unacceptable” begins, then I request that ANet as a company give themselves a perma ban for going well above and beyond that bar with their own product wherever possible. “A picture is worth a thousand words” har har har, so ANet has put the word “boobies” a million times on my screen then.

Ok I am done ranting, but surely you cannot disagree that the actual content provided by the game itself is significantly more offensive than my characters name. If the issue at hand is showing sexual reserve, I am well below the example of “unacceptable” that they themselves have given me as a reference (since their terms of service are so subjective).

By the way, I have taken part in almost every community event with the character, I have taken part in a conversation with Gaile Gray and the Frog with the character, I have played through every single campaign and she was my de-facto AFK character for nine rings to get the lucky title. So long have I had this character and NOW it’s a problem? Very very odd to me….and silly.

I guess choosing offensive names is a bit like the guy that runs around and flashes by opening his raincoat. Most of these names reflect badly on the person choosing them. I wonder if *Dren Freller* my assassin is due for a ban. I had a Diablo II assassin of the same name. I guess Crichton or Aeryn Sun would spot the association.

I tried to use the word Honeysuckle for my Mesmer named after the flower. Apparently that was unacceptable and could not use it. After what I have seen in game the word Honeysuckle should be FAR from being unacceptable.

@OP "Holy McBoobies" is a great name (a bit laughable). I think you should fight this and send a complaint to support with the arguments you have already stated here. I would also use the "Dupek the Mighty" argument used earlier on this thread. I would also state the prejudice on English speaking people making obscene names is insane considering the number of extremely foul names that are permitted on the Euro and Asian servers. I play with people who speak Korean and the names they get away with would make a grown man blush. Yet I can't use Honeysuckle go figure.

I've been suspended at least 2 times. The first one was back when there was only proph, and my pug made me be a tainted necro to counter IWAY... So in protest, I named the character Smell My Taint, won halls a few times, then it seemed like I error 7ed, tried to log back in, and the suspension screen came up. No rename, since it was a pvp character. My most recent ban was because of my name Ths Sht Will F U Up, after my favorite Combichrist song... A name which I've been using for 1+ year now. The only reason I got busted was because, in keeping with the name, I made a ritualist named Ths Sht May F U Up. Someone got upset in TA because we beat them, and reported me. And of course I had about 7 other offensive names at the time in my account.. here's a list of what I can remember:

I totally understand why I got the suspension, not complaining one bit. Only thing I'm kinda annoyed with is how most people are not offended in the least, but yet grief you because you beat them. GG
