I have a feeling that previous changes (the infamous axe) were scripts that were applied at logon and not in the db. They've mentioned the info in the db is just a bunch of blobs or clobs so they aren't (probably) going to be searching through it.

Aside from 10 max titles the prospect of a roll back is extremely disheartening to me Ive had some of the neatest stuff happen in the last month. My guild pooled our resources and bought a valued member a mini-gwen ect...
Today for the first time since DoA was released me and a guildie went through City,Veil, and Gloom. Accomplishments that I would essentially lose.
I dont know what the answer is here but a rollback more than 12 hours would drive me away from GW forever. Basically it would become a fancy chat program for me.

AFAIK Anet has never disclosed exactly what their system does or doesnt use in terms of software so that seems to me to be rather idle speculation.

Many a time I have seen a post begin with, "I heard from a..." whether it be a friend, cousin, site, doctor, fish. Almost 100% of the time, the original poster would be told to stop listening to said person, and get facts from real sources. The fact that the mod simply said, "I heard from people..." leads me to believe these "people" are unreliable, like they have been for countless other threads. And what is a he-bitch?

No, you don't understand. I'm not the friend of a guy who duped a dye, I was the guy who duped it. Why should I put up screens for some unknown jerk who doesn't know anything? For your information Gaile has all the information from me making the extra dye, so I have nothing to prove to you. If you want to troll, then YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG

The world is not enough...
On a side note, people are now focusing on the "Armbrace Dupe" to start scamming people in-game (selling for 20k, trading multiple things, tricking the buyer, then logging)... Gotta love the GW community.
Very well done, Fenix and others.

As many people will probably tell you, I'm far from a "blind fanboi," I KNOW there was duping, hell everyone with half a brain knew something was up when people started offering insane shit for the Japanese minipets. But saying that everything is affected and the game is completely destroyed is just causing chaos, not helping a thing.

The bigger question is why not just pass on "the speculated info" rather than experiment with it yourself? To me that opens yourself up to a ban by exploiting the exploit? Im not saying you should be banned but when I heard about this my first thought wasnt "hey lets go see if this really works!"

You are pretty much owned here by Fenix, so please refrain from posting bullshit. We were the ones sending reports to anet, Guru community wants to help developers in fixing this huge scam/exploit. Why do you troll us?

Here is what we know:- There was an exploit.
- It was conducted through the reconnect feature.
- We learned of it today and took action, today, to end the use of the exploit.
- We will continue to test, and investigate, and then we'll look at outcomes afterwards.
Here is what we don't know yet:- What game changes may occur as a result of this exploit.
- What will happen to those who used the exploit.
My comment about "avoiding armbraces" was more a joke than a fact, but if someone duplicated something and has a huge stockpile of that item, it's natural he/she may try to unload them, and frankly I wouldn't want to be the one to take the offer right now.
Lastly, stop and think: When did you first become aware of this issue? It's easy to leap to conclusions. But you can't say that because it was related to reconnects, the exploit was used since reconnects were added to the game. That's making a very large assumption. I'll make one in return: I'll assume that most of you heard of this exploit today. How likely is it, then, that it's been around for months? Even weeks? You know the Internet; you know the player base. How likely is it that it's been used for a long while without the word getting out? Before we talk about massive catastrophes, let's consider that the impact may have been quite minimal.
We'll share more info as we have it.

Most game have Item ID for every item and if Im right GW should also have item id for every item, for the reason that whenever an item is duplicated the item code will duplicated too then the solution is just delete the duplicate item code and your done. just my 2cents xD

umm dyes weren't duped massively. a single red dye was duped to become two. after that test occurred, the steps were immediately sent to gaile gray so that they could close the exploit.

Preparing for the worst-case scenario while hoping for the best? I like that. Nothing can come from "assuming". It's a good thing some people actually got up and tried to figure out how the scam worked...
Let's hope it was a dupe just recently learned...
At least it's optimistic... unlike most people nowadays.
Ahhh... Unienaule, you deleted all the funny posts too? XD
Bummer.

me and a couple of others saw this problem coming long time ago. as early as june i saw people getting excessive amounts of armbraces.
people popping up all of a sudden with tons of rare pets & armbraces isn't common. the community would've known who they are. but we don't, they just pop up.

It happened, and most of us could not exploit it.
Because of this I demand that all who could get punished extremely hard. *cough*
On a more serious note: It happened.
What will ANet do, what can they do? A rollback is near impossible, this exploit probably existed since the very day the reconnect feature got introduced.
When did it see massive abuse? Probably in the last weeks.
I guess ANet will track down excessive offenders and get some, but not all of them. Their ways to track down might be limited, and I have no idea how hard it would be.
Some got lucky, and some will be banned. There might be a limited rollback or none at all, this is what I suspect. Some might get lucky again and not be banned.
Hopefully no innocents will be banned who traded with the exploiters.

Well you see, I had to make sure the information that I sent to Gaile was 100% correct, so that it could help fix it faster. So sending speculation wouldn't really have been helpful.

Err, whats your problem dude, it's not their fault.
I think the original dupers have shot themselves and the game in the foot and I hope the game doesn't suffer because of a few greedy people. Hope the guy who started gets a lawsuit lol.
