If you sit at a computer all day doing chest runs then I think the ban did you a lot of good, sitting at a computer screen all day is definitely not healthy.

If you hang around outside a bank looking shifty you're going to be accused of being a robber. If you're going to behave like a bot then don't be surprised if you get accused of being a bot.

That's the most ridiculous suggestion I've ever seen. The ban is executed for "using a third party program" not "repeating a series of actions manually" or "playing too long". The behaviour is not what the ban is for, it's for accusation (read, suspicion) of third party programs to automate that behaviour.

Just try and wrap your head around that before you post again.

P.S. You're dumb.

P.P.S. For the rest of the audience who's disenchanted with this type of action from Anet, put your money where your mouth is and don't pre-order or even purchase EotN. Complaining on a forum about the developers management of the game but still rushing out to preorder is sending mixed signals. Preorders are very important, as they allow the developers and publishers to prove to the media and sales outlets that their game is popular and worth covering/advertising and thus creating more hype for the game. So if you're not happy, send them the message in the only way they'll probably get it.

To the OP: You admittedly perform botlike activity and get banned - yet you have the gall to complain about the experience when they give you your account back?

In that case maybe Anet shouldn't put titles in the game for which bot-like behaviour is the only viable way to get them maxed --- like the Treasure Hunter title is.

Can't blame the players for having to do hardcore things that may resemble "bot-like behaviour" to max titles that any way you slice it, require a ludicrous amount of hours and repetition to max. The devs are the ones who deliberately made the time and thousands of repetitive behaviours required to max them be so outrageously ludicrous. That's not the players' fault.

The gall to complain about a bad customer service experience after an incorrectly executed ban? Jesus Christ, that "gall" is the basic right of any customer anywhere who feels the service they are receiving isn't adequate.

People need to stop kissing Anet's arse and wake up to the fact they're paying them for a service and they should expect a certain level of quality in the delivery of that service.

why do you troll a forum and play a game that you hate so much? I am seriously trying to understand and not trying to start a flame war...but it just boggles my mind that you would do so!

I know that if I ever make a game, the EULA will DEMAND that the player always act in a way that passes a basic Turing test...

For the record, we have no proof that any of the original poster's claims are true or fact. He may have been using 3rd party software, he may have made up this whole chest run thing or he may have been falsely accused. To assume the OP's original story is the full truth is short sighted.

To the original poster, just be glad you got your account back and ease off on the 5 hour marathons of 45 second chest runs, if that was the problem.

Think what u say before you type because that is the most ridiculous comment I've ever heard. The guy payed for the game he can spent as much time on it as he likes and yes this sounds absolutely ridiculous. Arenanet just assume people are bots and ban them when they were the one's who introduced titles which require repetetive actions. I'll probably get banned for farming SS points in Sulfurous wastes soon... Arenate this is a cry from all of us; please get proper anti-bot measures and stop banning innocent people who have payed good money to play this game.

Op thanks for the warning but i can understand why A_Net is being a physical overseer(watcher i might spelled thta wrong) Maybe the Bot population is out of control and they cant catch al of em (Apperantly they cant) so they take this kind of aproach so if suspicious you look you are a suspect. Just avoid this kind of Behavior and honestly its just a title do 50 chets a day not 300 dont spend 5 hours spend 3 that way aint nothing suspicious there work on Other titls in meanwile and your problem solved

And you don't agree that doing the exact same thing for hours and hours does seem like bot action, therefore implying the use of a third party program?

A lot of people exhibit bot-like behavior then. It's not just chest runs, but people grinding for other titles. I've done bot-like behavior grinding for SS/LB rank as well as doing Luxon Arena over and over and over again when I was trying to get Luxon faction. I've never done 5 hours in a row or anything close to it, but you get in a groove and turn on your automatic pilot and just do it. To a casual observer, it could look like a bot. Point is, these GM's should not be casual observers and Anet should be more diligent in their investigation before issuing a permanent ban.

Hmm, Anet'd better fix this kind of ingame GM behaviour.

Anyway: please, no 3th party software detecter, like say, punkbuster, it's pretty annoying getting banned because you have limewaire on...not to mention texmod.

Correct, they also do not need to prove anything.

If they DO obrserve characters (ie. a mod with an account in any outpost), then all you have to do is whisp them. A bot won't respond even if you tell him: "Hey, I'm a mod and if you don't talk back we're gonna perma-ban you!" If he said that to me I'd freak out and spend a whole hour chatting if I have to!

EDIT: Also I suggested this elsewhere, but can't they make an invisible feature in the client that maps and compares your movement patterns if exiting the same outpost more than once? Bots would have perfectly identical movements and timings whereas legitamate players can't do that even if they try.

/shallow display of concern. Sorry about your account being banned and all that old chap, most distressing for you, you have my utmost sympathy etc etc blah blah

.................. but more importantly, where is this magic chest????????

I had a couple of runs round the Stygian Veil but it didn't spawn for me, and even if it were to spawn nearby I can't see it working out any quicker than a run thru Lyss or Whitman's (when you factor in running to the gate & resigning afterward).

Thank you for trying to start a flame war... but it didn't work.

Anet banned him because they thought he was a bot: something which could have been cleared up easily by whisping him/her. The ban, according to the OP's story, is totally unjustified and doesn't deserve the "one-time offender mark". He was just grinding for a title (boring as hell and anyone can tell him to get a life and all, but no reason to ban).
