im assuming that since the op fixed it relatively quickly it was due to firewall issues.
on another note i was wondering who was the main ISP in China...is it China AOL?

Come on.

An official response on an unofficial forum at a time in the day when the local time with Arenanet is 5 am? Yeah sure, thats going to happen.
Not to mention that Arenanet has nothing to do with this because its NCSoft that made a deal with The9. How about referring the user to NCSoft, they are awake probably now and probably even understand Chinese quite well.

To chinaGW:
I feel your pain. I think it is unfair to blaim AreanaNet for these issues though. This seems to be an issue caused by China's strict laws regulating the internet and NCSoft (AreanaNet's parent company) relationship with The9.
The contract between NCSoft and The9 seems to be a pretty bad one if The9 can just shut down the server. But that relationship would not be needed if not for China's internet laws.
Keep fighting for political change over there, and maybe one day Americans and Chinese can kill Charr together on the same server.

We urgently hope the following problems can be solved:
1) Open up Eye of the North, connect to international service
2) Preserve player's data, give players their legal rights
3) Players of deleted network regions be migrated to the telecom region
4) Guarantee that when Mainland China servers are shut down, they can give a reasonable explanation/solution (migration)

online automated translators are a poor choice to use. but i think he figured it out.
being chinese myself (and having been living there for the first 8 years of my life), i've always questioned how GW will work in china. the main concern is the storyline. while WoW can operate extremely well in china because of its lack of story-telling abilities, GW can get screwed over quick because the storyline promotes ideals that the chinese government might not like. even while the servers were up, the GW in china is quite different from the GW we have here. i think the government finally decide to pull the plug on GW and forced the9 to shut it down (assuming the government does not own the9 to begin with). if that's the case, there's really nothing arena net (or NCsoft) can do. the legal system works a bit differently over there.

The other big post was a signed petition from a bunch of players. Basically, they are saying how they loved GW compared to other games, in terms of both technical superiority and the wholesome theme compared to local games (not focused on hate, sex, betrayals etc. etc.), and they don't want it shut down.
Another point is that players are leaving in droves because of the operator's shady practices over many years, and not just for GW but all online games previously operated by them (they cite disconnects, stealing codes, lying to customers and so on).
So it doesn't seem GW's content is the problem, at least according to those posts. This operator was apparently quite notorious to begin with.

whether the players like it or not is irrelevent. remember, this is the same government that decreed the law: "cars with license plate number ending in an odd number can only drive on odd days of the month, those with even number can only drive on even days of th month." you honestly think the government really cares about what the people have to say?
add to the fact that the chinese government is already viewing internet gaming as the plague of mankind, i don't think NCsoft have any power whatsoever. we can petition as much as we want. unless the government wants to, GW will never appear in china again.

Not sure quite how it works with MMO's in China, but I would have to assume that any online community that allows for freedom of expression in chat would have to be heavily monitored by police or police informants, with infractions resulting in the detention/prosecution of those gamers who made the statement, and shutting down of the network or game system that allowed the messages to appear.

The9 City started passively running GW to ensure profit from WoW not getting cut. Later, they realized that:
1.No present games can outsell WoW, so they dont really have to invest so much to protect WoW;
2.GW doesn't really fit Chinese market, players who really like GW only a tiny portion of big pie. It's just a bad profit/cost for The9 if they put efforts in GW.
3.Ncsoft not giving good terms to The9. Nc expects too much from GW in China. They probably ask The9 prices GW the same as WoW and ask for 30%+ of the profit. Something weird about these Korean game companies, when it comes to US/EU markets, they do their best to serve consumers; when it comes to Chinese market, they do their best to grab money. Well,The9 is not stupid, They know they will lose more in long run. So they'd rather lose signup fees(probably not even paid in full yet) and keep the open beta forever than actually run the game.
pretty much it. Chinese players, US/EU servers will ban you due to breaking EULA if you play on them. and Chinese server will die really soon. I feel sad for you guys. Just move on, make love , not Guildwars.

No dissrespect or anything like that but i just read through your post and it may help to revise it to proper english sentences so that people know what your post is saying i mean that entire post makes little sense....I think your haveing soo much problems is because Chinese Government Regulates all Internet.....GOTTA LOVE A CONTROLING GOVERNMENT
I believe Anet is Giveing up on china due to the government regulations...their is really no profit for Anet in china and its very difficult to stick to a game design when the Chinese government Edits the Game Befor they realease it.

sadly, it is all true, i am Chinese, i am from Beijing, luckly i play in US district and iam currently study in US. i have been to Chinese server couple times, and played there during the Chinese server BETA. at that time, i can see many many people in Ascalon(newbie area lol). And i joined a Rank 1 GvG guild in chinese cnc server(网通),we really had a good time there. then due to my own guild in US server needs more active people, i came back.for 2 months i havent heard anything about what happend to chinese GW server. 1 day my girlfriend told me that they closed CNC server(there are 2 diff server running in china back to the days, one is CNC the other i cant remember the name but in chinese is 电信) asked her why, she gave me a simple answer:not enough people playing anymore, cause The9 sucked at manage the bussiness. i was shocked, and at the same time i feel sad about my country's people that who loved GW so much. All i can say here is, The9 is really not a ideal company to run GW AT ALL(for those who doesnt know, The 9is running WoW at the same time-_-) so here, from a chinese 23 years old student, i hope Anet recondsidering the choice of the agent in mainland china, thank you

Again, Anet did not make the choice. It is a deal between The9 and NCSoft.

This is the translator I use and it's pretty good

Also the 9 are pretty big. They are publicly traded on the stock exchange

I sure hope something can be done for our fellow players in China
