mesmers can be very good and i dont really mind what profession she is.
"When I grow up, I'm going to be a hero like my daddy. I'd like to be a warrior, but the mesmers' outfits are nicer, don't you think?"
that was a quote she made in pre seering .

sounds like she wanted to be a warrior. that would be nice. a class that has an advantage as a primary is always nice.

I always found that, although Heroes could interrupt a spell with .5 second skill, I would often open my little hero skill panel mid-fight to see that my Ranger Hero was sitting at mostly full energy, all interrupts charged, and not doing a damn thing to stop the mobs from casting.
My Mesmer, Curses Necro, and Ranger heroes were never too... smart... on using their their full skillbar. I still use Norgu for interrupts and degen, but lets face it, E-Denial doesn't affect monsters, and unless you have the Hero lock target on the mob by him/herself, once you yourself target the mob, all the heroes and henchmen will focus fire on it and "shutting it down" will be mighty pointless for the 4 seconds it will be alive.
I too was a little disappointed in her being a Mesmer, and a little surprised, since she was healing me back in 2005 Pre-Searing. But she will see more party time than Norgu ever did.

Lock mesmers on one target, call party on other target, easy to do, i often did when i still used Norgu. Same for rangers, never had problems with them running interupts. Appearantly D-shot fires at 0.25 seconds and has a 0.25 after"cast". I'm not a 100% sure on this, as I didnt use timers on it, but many reliable sources claim so.

Sorry... :S
Mesmers get so much slack, that's really all you need to say Anything more and you're just trying to prove against people who refuse to have interaction with Mesmers, that they are worth bringing into a party, when experience says that you don't need to 'prove' anything. *breathes*

Well, if you feel that your heroes are not picking the optimal target, there's this little cross-hair thingy in their skill bar that you can use to gently nudge them to the right direction ... it's usually easiest to do that before the brawl begins, just tab through the mob to see what's in there then assign each hero a priority target.
A very simple setup is to have one warrior hate necro and one caster hate mesmer hero, and lock a target when something has to be subdued while the rest of the party does something else. This is not necessary in most situations but extremely valuable in others. I recently H+H'd Abaddon's Mouth HM (with bonus, of course) with a curses MoW and mixed dom/illusion Norgu and the pairs of bosses didn't pose any challenge at all, being well and thoroughly emasculated by the heroes.
If you don't have enough mesmer skills unlocked (or enough experience to come up with a decent build - mesmer is the most specific of all professions and optimally you should cook up a different build for each situation) then mesmer heroes are indeed pretty weak, and a BHA ranger may be a better choice.
Now that Gwen is a mesmer she'll certainly get a party invitation from time to time, much more often than if she were an ele (ele heroes are pretty sucky and unable to handle tasks more challenging than mindless SF spam) or a monk (for most part hero monks are redundant - especially in GW:EN hench monks are completely adequate).

PvE isn't as strenuous as some of you guys make it out to be. If you're talking about raw damage? I have a lot of fun with my fast cast nuker in PvE, and have never had any complaints about my ability playing this way.
Also, shutdown Me in PvE can be a lot of fun (and in the correct context, pretty essential); Brute Force is not the only way to play PvE, personally I find 2ele X MM etc.. a very dull experience.

Ever tried to tell that to, well, quite many monsters in PvE? Rotscale and Glint come to mind, just last night did Boreas HM and Argo and Zhu Hanuku were both much nicer to meet with a competent shutdown ranger in the party. Heck, several Factions and NF ele and rit bosses instawipe your party in HM without proper shutdown.
