Are you a dedicated reader of gamerzine or mmozine? Cos thats who they were for really. And yet most of these have gone to people who want to sell them on rather than collect them.

What about those bitter people who hate them for not having enough pets and for not anticipating a server crash?

Well, regardless, the fact is you can't read the magazine now cause the server crashed.
I guess some could see that as a sign of success... I see it as a failure to anticipate the massive hits after announcing a free mini to potentially 4 million people!
(I'm sure the direct link on the european Guild Wars site didn't help)

They say that the minis are for the first 40k subscriber, that it is not assured to get one. On the other hand, it is very difficult to be a dedicated reader of MMzine, since this was it's first issue

Yeah that's where I assume that many of them went. It's free and all you have to do is register an account? Sounds pretty easy to me....

I don't mean to laugh but thousands of new people now know the name of this magazine. Those that signed up for the minipet will now get a new ezine in their mailbox. Yes they can unsubscribe but even if only 10% of those people continue their subscriptions and browse through it, it was a smashing success for a small ezine. As I was discussing in IRC, stores/magazines/games don't run promotions believing that every single person will sign up or subscribe. But if you can gain just a few hundred new readers or consumers then that promotion did it's job. I know we all want to believe that this promotion was for the Guild Wars players, but it was for the magazine and to gain more exposure for it's name and the name of ArenaNet.

I think that they will be limited to one per game account, same as Asura.

One: It seems they didn't cover their own readership very well. It looks like most of them went to a few opportunistic people who harvested all the keys in a few short minutes to corner the market. The small number of people selling multiples in-game reinforces that impression. Like bigo93 says:

Two: They've gained thousands of new subscribers who are going to cancel without ever reading their zine. Like Onarik says,

For example, this person:

No one who subscribed and then didn't get the mini is going to have any positive feelings about them whatsoever. And most of the few who did get the mini are going to unsubscribe anyway.
Yeah, so... massive fail IMO.

But what would be stopping me from applying for a code on each of my email accounts?

Or would it stop you from applying for a code on a large number of e-mail accounts that don't even exist in order to drive up the rarity and price of the mini?
