3rd Annual Halloween Art Contest (Results)
http://www.guildwars.com/events/cont...07/default.php
There they are. Some cosplayer ended up winning (of course). Personally I don't think that dressing up as your character should even be considered any form of "art" and the fact that someone who did actually won the whole contest is pretty irritating; especially when you look at the actual art of some of the other finalists.
Anyways just thought I'd share the news (unless it was already posted elsewhere and I'm to unobservant to notice >_>)

Actually I made the costumes specifically for this contest. Art doesnt not always equal=drawings/paintings/sculpture. Costuming is an art and you obviously have no idea the amount of work that goes into it.

Hehe nice, at least I could laugh about that.
But next time I'll keep my last few hundred bucks in my pocket, and instead of spending all my money on a costume I'll just buy a vizu off ebay, they only cost $250 there, less then my costume, especially considering the amount of time it took to put it together.

aww, the little Asura tyke is cute.
Face it, dressing your kids up always scores points. (I agree the Melandru statue kicks ass though)
Now, if I could only get my wife to dress up...

I know the person who dressed up as the paragon. Not in real but in-game. Its nice to see that she placed has an honorable mention!

Congratulations to all the winners. There is hard work and lots of imagination all round.
Please ignore the ones having a moan - petty jealousy does not become them.

I can appreciate the time and work it takes to make a costume. I don't disregard them as an artful entry. The only thing I don't like about most of them is that there is no Hallowe'en theme beyond fact that they're wearing a costume.
I'm not bitter about the results of the contest, and maybe it's just me, but the costume entries that lack a Hallowe'en theme really don't inspire me to see them as "Hallowe'en" contest entries. The same costume could be used to enter any Guild Wars art contest, and yep.. that's the only thing that bothers me about any of the entries. Maybe the contest department could keep that in mind for future contests.

Zav should have won. His picture has to do with GW, Halloween and it is an idea of himself.
No amount of work will change the fact, that cosplayer rebuild something someone else invented. There is just not much imagination involved, hard work yes, but for an art contest, that should not matter.

To be fair, even the "art" entries copy Guild Wars design: The statue of Melandru is very nice, but it's not like it wasn't inspired by the in-game Statue of Melandru.
The winners were a family that all dressed up as Guild Wars characters. The Dervish looks quite nice. I agree that I think the Melandru statue is more of an "example" of art, but it's not like the winners just threw on some robes took pictures... those costumes take work!
(I used the Melandru statue as an example, I realize it wasn't Zavs, and I'll give you that Zav's is original.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in wider society, when it comes to Halloween costumes, you can dress up as anything you like? Just doesn't have to be "evil" themed?
Costuming, as a whole, is appropriate to Halloween.

imo, the 1st place which is a famliy picture shouldve take the 1st place, not only they did fantasic job on the cosstumes, but also shown that they all loved GW as much as the creator of Melandru statue, however, to bring in kids and wife/husband togather has shown me that besides GW, there are much more for just a game, GW might be their 2nd home

Anyway... Congrats to ALL the winners, you all did a fine job
I can't believe the whining OP can't even fathom how much work that would be been put into those costumes... you my friend need to revisit the meaning of Art and what it is. in the end, it is the judges choice who wins and not you.
Oh an btw "Vizu"... entering a contest doesn't guarantee you win....
