Only accept help from people you trust. Always get max armor ASAP if you can, it helps loads. Same goes for heroes, oh and remember F12 + Enter is your very best friend... I think it's F12 anyway...

Thats an epic fail, NEVER DO THAT
Have guild screen up always - if you think your gona die hit GUILD HALL travel button, that is the safest way of getting out of a sticky situation, Don't listen to fail people like rednova

what i do is make my log out key my shift key.. so whenever i get into a tricky situation i jus press SHIFT+C to bring me to the char screen. This was such a reliable method of escape that I've died a couple of times out of over confidence and got spiked hard by bosses =P.
Also REMEMBER if you change it... once i changed it to "q" to use shift as my push to talk button for vent, then when i was playing a survivor, got spiked, pressed shift c, then realised.... too late T_T
edit: actually you should prolly never change it..

Everything else Raven said is true though. Be aware of your surroundings at all times even in battle. Watch not only your party bar but everyone's positioning as well. If you're aware of everything, there's no chance your pug is going to draw some enemies onto you to be mean (had that happen to me as well, it's very easy to spot this and calmly map out to find a new team), nor will you be dragging the team down. In fact, most of the time you can quite safely save the party after near wipes because of this. I know I have, plenty of times.

Also, Death Pact Signet, while making you shit yourself, it is quite useful. If you're aware of the battlefield more than your teammates, you can get into a party wipe situation and res them all up extremely quickly. If you're in an explorable area and need to wipe, res up someone, let them die and so do you - to the res shrine. 0 Deaths <o/

If you want to be effective, make your build do well. You don't need a survival skill at all. Focus all your skills to helping the party, because you're not soloing and dedicating half your bar to keep yourself alive is letting your team do all the work. As an Elementalist, I go for Rodgorts spam. The more enemies I kill, the less strain on the Monk and the less likely I am to take damage, when I do, I have a non-strained monk to keep me alive.

A good survivor contributes to their team, gives it their all. This is a team based game after all and whether you're playing with heroes/henchies, a pug or guildies, you wont make it alone.
Uh, lol? No one above you said use Mending. Fail!

Pugging is not a good idea, it's a factor you can't control. Don't tell me you've never been in a nightmare PuG.

Or just stop sucking. If a PUG gets you killed, you deserved it, no matter how bad or good they are.

Bah, missed the Mending guy.

Anyway, if a warrior in your group goes and aggros everything and then you get wiped, it's your fault?

If a monk goes afk in the middle of a battle and you die, that's your fault as well?

If a PuG gets you killed, the only reason you deserve it is because you were dumb enough to PuG with a Survivor.

Yes to both. You should be aware of the battlefield. If you see your party dropping and no heals, you check the monk. If he's not doing anything, you retreat. If you see a warrior charge into 5+ groups at once then begin to drag back to you, you begin retreating. If you can't retreat, you have plenty of time to hit M and zone back to the previous district.

If you die because of those reasons, you deserved it. Pay more attention, you're playing a survivor.

I've helped a couple of people get Legendary Survivor using my ritualist. It's a bit of a cheap way to get the title but very fast once you get to where you need to be.

You have to get yourself to Venta Cemetary and be ranger secondary, pretty easily done. Only the outpost is needed. You don't have to go through the mission chain once you hit the mainland. I think you can see where this is going . The rit has the Battle of Turais Procession quest active (done in Hard Mode) and carries splinter weapon and the spirits needed. The character going for LS has barrage and some running skills with a flatbow. So long as the rit doesn't engage the margonites then the player going for LS will get ALL the experience (21600xp for a 7-8 min run, 43200xp with a double scroll). Takes about 4 hours from about lvl17-20, plus the time it took you to get to Venta.

One thing i did insist though was that the person practice on another char first so they knew what to do. Once you have the hang of it (30 mins or so) it's almost risk free so long as you take the precautions to make a quick exit as mentioned in other posts should something go wrong, which it almost never does once you know what to do, hence why i insisted on the practice first.

There's loads of ways to get LS easily, that's just the one i've used to help a couple of friends out. Like i said, it's a bit cheap but it gets you the title.

got legendary survivor on a 2nd ranger.

play the class you know best. i started as prophecies for the most free skills so id have a ton of money for cap sigs (capping elites at lvl 20 gives you 5k xp). then i like...played the game.

if you're going to do it on a necro, you might want to use all the blood-sucking skills that are generally considered useless in a group but keep you alive. [wiki]demonic flesh[/wiki] might be a good way to avoid aggro (since lowest armor/health tends to pull the most aggro)

btw, f12/enter is the official, "do-over button." also, the advice to not pug isn't about pugs getting you killed. it's about not being a prick and bailing out on a group mid-mission if you might die.

above all, don't die until you get 1,337,500xp.

I have 2 Accounts with a Legendary on both. I have a few points I found that are good to know when trying to get a Legendary Survivor.

1. Play only a class that you play well.( I chose Ranger)
2. NEVER take a run skill on your skill bar.(Sounds crazy I know but there will come a point when you use it offensive instead of defensive.)
3. NEVER run with a pug group. (never, never, never and in case ya missed it NEVER.
4. Try to incorporate 1 or 2 defensive skills into your skill bar.
5. NEVER play when you are getting the slightest bit of LAG.
6. If you are unsure of a mission or area, DONT do it.(ask guild for help or get a paid runner. And some missions WILL KILL you just because you are a survivor. Ruins of Morah comes to mind.
7. Dont be affraid to do some xp farming in Plains of Jarin HM. Just set your Koss,Dunkoro,Olias up and they will do it all for you.(if you have Nightfall)
8. Trade your Monestary credits / Battle Commendations for XP scrolls at the quartermasters. Run XP scrolls at all times when exploring, questing and missions.
9. If you start to feel the tediousness of this endevor, stop playing for awhile. Anxious game-play can cost a title quickly.
10. Never aggro more than one group of ANYTHING. (they can surround and kill your healer quickly. even low lvl areas will sometimes do this.)
11. Use Wiki/Guru to study your areas/missions for easier ways to beat them.
12. If you don't have Nightfall. Get it. The Heros Can really make Legendary survivor much more attainable.

My first survivor(ranger) made protector on all three continents before his first death. All I did was follow those points above.(Thanx to the Lords of Doom for their help in the sticky areas. They are my guild and thru them I saw what it means to have a guild who will stick with you thru the hard spots.)

-NEVER PUG. EVER.

-Always beware of your aggro situation.

-Make monk bars according to every single situation for your monk heroes.

-Probably isn't a good idea to "help" people do things on your survivor. Or go with people you don't know very well as players.

-DO NOT PvP on your survivor. Wiki says that PvP deaths do not count but they do.

-Do NOT attempt to solo farm or farm at all for that matter on your survivor. This should be obvious but I know people who were dumb enough to try it.

-DO NOT attempt to farm your title by staying within aggro distance of someone who is solo farming. This doesn't work and it is also just plain stupid.

-Obtain max armor and a superior vigor rune as soon as humanly possible. Your survivor one lvl 20 should have close to, if not about 600 hp or more. That means NO superior runes other than your sup vig.

-Watch for creatures with Grenth's balance.

-Never take the aggro yourself.

-Use skills that heal or prevent damage.

-DO NOT accept a run from someone if there is ANY possiblity of death. Make sure the runner is super exp in running that area and he/she knows where all of the groups are/spawn.

-NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER GO AFK IN AN EXPLORABLE. (I cannot stress this enough)

If you get your XP by skill capping (5k xp per cap) you can work on your skill hunter titles at the same time. By the time I got my Legendary Survivor I was nearly halfway to my Legendary Skill Hunter.

To clarify, I recommended Mending in conjunction with the other suggestions. Lots of people won't use it and I readily admit I only use it on certain chars/profs myself in the normal course of things. I do, however, find it useful when working on Survivors.

Having lost a 2nd rank 45k shy of it on one char thru my own stupidity (and, yes, he had Mending on when he died), I was determined never to make the same mistake again. I now have 3 other char with 2nd rank, one of which (a Factions char and the one I'm seriously working on) just hit 800K XP yesterday.

It's important to have a plan for what you want to do and how you want to go about it.

In my case, I had to be prepared to take certain risks and hope to heck they paid off.

I wanted the ability to change 2nds so I would have the option of that many more skills to cap for the XP bonus that entails. That meant soloing Vizunah (took 2 tries), then soloing Nahpui.

My destination of choice was Melandru's Watch, where I could farm for XP in relative safety using the repeatable there. That meant soloing Tahhnakai, Arborstone, Boreas and Sunjiang to get there.

Calculated risks that, fortunately, did pay off, and he's now safely ensconced at Lutgardis, pulling in 10-15K XP a day.

Some might consider this part "coasting". But I have done the hard bits to get to this point and if/when I achieve LS, I will feel justifiably proud that I did, indeed, earn it by the sweat of my brow.

Don't play when you're tired.

Don't play when you're lagging.

If you're unsure about a particular area/mission/quest, do it with another char first.

Most importantly, DO have confidence in yourself and in your abilities.

Don't become overconfident - pride goeth before a fall.

Think clearly, be aware of your surroundings, your situation, be aware of yourself.

With all my Survivors, I've never had a 'plan' when going to an explorable area except on which quests to do in what order. I'll admit on my first LS, I used a defensive skill, Illusion of Weakness but found later on that it was wasting space on the skill bar and I could very easily play without it.

I'm no superman and don't get these things on my first try, but the times I have died were mostly my own stupidity, including in pugs. I've teamed with some great people and some really poor people that would make you wonder how they got off the starter isle/presearing, yet none of the failures occurred that were their fault.

Pugging makes survivor fun, don't avoid it, just be wary you have no control over your team anymore.

If you absolutely need defensive skills, you're doing something wrong, unless you're an Assassin or Warrior at which point things switch around and its pretty much redundant.

Running skills I've found to be absolutely wonderful on my Ele, especially when it comes to situations you'd normally need to quit out on. Instead, flame djinn's haste and get out of melee. If you're confident enough, it can be used offensively too.

Aggroing more than one group is not an issue. A decent team can easily not be overwhelmed by three standard groups at once. What's important is to know how good your team is and how much they can take. You need to constantly reassess the situation in battle. Once you get the hang of it, it's not that hard spotting imminent failure and retreating accordingly before the first party member drops.

Exigo enjoys pugging, all offensive skills and overcoming seemingly overwhelming odds.

Unless I missed it no-one named the obvious one.

Get as much health as possible. +30/+30 stave, sup vigor and survivor insignia's/runes, no other superior rune... not even a major one. It's not that the extra health will help you survive the odd hit (well maybe it does but thats not the main point). Monsters always, I repeat ALWAYS, go for the member of the group with the least health. Having bucketloads of health makes you last on their priority list. It's a rare situation you get hit at all tbh. The only thing you have to watch out for is AoE damage. So make sure you are never in the clump of you henchies (flags ftw).

Rule 1: Know your limits

Rule 2: Know when you're beaten

Rule 3: Equip enough skills on your bar to keep you safe for the ~5 seconds it can take to zone out to safety.

I got Legendary Survivor on a Ranger. Half my bar was devoted to staying alive with skills like Whirling Defense, Troll Unguent and Hex Braker.

This thread may also be worth a look.

ok, some good points everyone has

but the best tip of all is do Kilroy Stonekins punch out extravaganza, take 250% scrolls, it IS the fastest, most profitable way to get survivor, you get roughly 45k XP per 7 minute HM runs, takes a little bit of prep work, but you pretty much safe from dying, just remember to get up, if you cant get up, just hit the close button

Yesterday I finally finished the long proces of surviving... my own style.

Playing it safe by the rules mentioned above and even though mending seemed to be disliked, mending refrain(it's Paragon-counterpart) worked wonderfull on me.

I started my survivor somewhere close on wintersday. With wintersday came the snowballquest which got me started pretty good, probably got me 75% of the r1 part since it's in an area in which lvl doesnt matter.

But most of my experience I got in the two special weekends during the past year: DOUBLE SKILL CAPTURE WEEKEND. Basicly during this weekend all you have to do is cap cap cap. A nice 10.000 experience per cap is definitly worth it.

And I also like to point out the large experience quests. NPC's in Cantha and GW:EN seem to offer larger then usual XP rewards.

I currently have 1.332.745 exp on my survivor with a 10.000 xp quest reward ready for pick-up in Eye of the North. I promised my friend to wait so he could screencap the moment.
