I just wish the "Cartographer Made Easy" TexMod had been out when I got LGMC for my warrior and my ele.
Will I use it to get LGMC for my ranger? You bet your ass I will.
Titles like this mean something only to the people that have them. I'm proud of my LGMC's, and to me they have meaning. Do I care if someone else has LGMC and how they got it? Do I hell, I couldnt care less what titles other people have.
So what if they use TexMod? Fair play to them on their tactical use of resources

I call bullshit on this whole post.

Right... It's not physically possible to cover every inch of Cantha in 24 hours, even with constant run speed boosts. These guys must have started with well over 90% mapped already. I did it from 70%ish and it took me over a week. There's no way they covered everything in a day without a huge headstart.
Quote:
What was even more annoying.... this mod was so good that one of them hadn't even been into JQ and neither of them even knew about the Eredon Terrace glitch.
|
Super bullshit. I've used this mod. I've uncovered every bit of fog it shows. I've also uncovered a good 0.4% or so that the mod-makers missed. (Yes, I submitted the data to them to help them improve the next version.) And I only had 99.6% without Terrace Glitch or JQ. There's no way to get 100% using only what the mod shows you without either JQ or Terrace Glitch. The mod simply doesn't show enough fog. And I'm very close to certain that it's absolutely impossible anyway, because 100% worth of fog doesn't exist outside of those two areas. (I challenge you to produce a screenshot of a 100% map that doesn't include at least one of those two areas to prove me wrong.)
Quote:
So no actual skill involved.
|
How exactly do looking up the Terrace Glitch on the wiki and signing up for a JQ mapping session on the forums qualify as "skill"?
Quote:
Spend 45 minutes killing every monster in a zone, and tracing the walls to get 0.1%? Or spend 2 minutes with a running build going from the nearest portal directly to the spot that will give you 0.1%?
|
The mod does not tell you what place you need to stand in to uncover spot X, only that spot X needs to be uncovered. Sometimes the spot you need to stand in is pretty far away from the spot to be uncovered, often further away than a whole bunch of closer and more logical-seeming spots. Heck, sometimes it's hard to tell which ZONE the spot that uncovers spot X is in. Moreover, you've still got to kill the monsters because, running skills or no, they're not going to give you time to work back and forth on the wall until you find the right spot. And running skills make you jump past small nooks in the wall anyway...
I think you really need to educate yourself about what this mod does and doesn't do before you bashing it like this.

Maybe if ANET made the fog look better to start with, people wouldn't have to use mods!

People should use the resources given. If you are allowed to take home a test... bring your textbook.
And YAY to the above post. A lot of parts I went to and couldn't even tell if they were fogged or not... and then some areas don't unfog and you still get % for it.

Chthon - my understanding and experience is that it is probably possible to get 100% without JQ or Eredon. I was 99.9% before I got into JQ and I couldn't get the Eredon glitch to work no matter how I tried. I did however have monastry outlook with is a good 0.3-0.4% over the 100%, and the arena outpost which gives ~0.2%, once again over and above the 100% on offer for Cantha. Furthermore map-checkers here on guru were certain I could get that last 0.1% off Raisu mission in the banishable area.

By gosh, I think you may be right. I forgot about that arena. Maybe Canthan-born characters could get 100% without either Terrace or JQ. But it would be one extremely tough row to hoe... and it would take a pretty big amount of stuff beyond what the mod shows.
If you still want to get into the Terrace glitch, PM me and I'll show you sometime.
On a related note, Skyoone, were my screenshots usable for your mapper?

I've been stuck at 96.x% forever in Tyria. A mod like this would be appreciated, but I wouldn't use it until I have tried the old-fashioned way first and get as much as possible on my own (right before I go crazy trying to find the slivers of fog I missed)..

They were. He's going to try to finish mapping those new areas in the next week or so, with the updated mod soon to follow.
And I'm truly loving the amount of publicity this post is generating. Since it went up, there has been an increase in average daily downloads of the mod. So the OP's rant of how unfair it is is doing nothing but advertising it to those who may have missed it the first time around.

Yup, I just downloaded the GW:EN /Tyria as I'm probably missing some parts of the new areas. Nice job skyoone, it's a great mod.

Summary of thread:
Use the mod because it will save you lots of time and frustration. If you don't, you'll end up posting a QQ thread where others will make fun of you.
Did I miss anything?

The OP is advertising this mod for a reason... I would bet that he changed the file on wiki with a different file containing the mod with a key logger. Wiki doesn't seem like the best place to store files since anyone can edit it.

That doesnt mean im saying dont do it, because ive earnt my own titles myself without any mods or advantages. I can say that with prid! But if you dont mind how it reflects on you by using a mod then go ahead.
It doesnt bother me any.

yes it is your opinion...but not your right to tell others how they should play or use their own computer to aid them in getting end goal faster or more efficiently..it still takes a great deal of work..and those guys bragging in OP it doesnt say wether or not they had already completed all missions and have gone back with mod to get those bits they missed in a day... to achieve title..

The file isn't hosted on the wiki. The wiki just contains an index of mods. The actual mod file is hosted on a mediafire account that cannot be modified by just anyone. The file is nothing but a .tpf file usable only by Texmod. So please, before you go spouting off about how you think there might be a keylogger or some such, at least get your facts straight.

Chthon - my Tyrian mesmer is the one with the title I got the outlook during one of the games events weekends. And the outpost of the arena along is worth 0.2% so I don't know if you can get anymore in the arena itself, I never took any of my Canthan born characters there.

It is safe Why are you making a seemingly random connection between Texmod and this password reset?
Don't be a sillyhead.
