So if i had a build in mind and had a reasonable idea of how to play the game would it not be a bad idea to make a PvP char right off? I mean I am ONLY interested in the PvP aspect of this game, if i wanted PvE i would play Lotro or WoW.
So with this faction rep grinding for skills is that an alright way to gain them?
Thanks once again to anyone who replies

It's definitely a good idea to get your foot in PvP now if that's what you're most interested in. Starting off in Random Arenas with said build that you have in mind is a good place to start. Getting wins in RA will also then give you faction that you can use to unlock more skills for your PvP characters. If you feel you have a reasonable grasp of the game and how it works, PvE isn't really as necessary then. Like most people have been saying, if your only interest is PvP, PvE will only serve as a very basic training ground for PvP.
As for me, the only reason I PvE anymore is to have good looking characters for PvP. ;D

The only PvP I do is Zaishen Challenges and the occasional AB so I'm not the expert. In my understanding, PvE doesn't just unlock skills but equipment as well, runes and weapon upgrades. Also heroes, but that's unlikely to interest you unless hero battles seem fun.
So give the PvE game to your girlfriend and get yourself the PvP pack. I know it's bad workman who blames his tools, but a good workman needs tools too!
You could grind the skills and equipment if you had a friend who would support you through the first stages of PvP. You have to unlock Random Arenas by winning a certain number of Zaishen I think, against a variety of opponent teams, and then you unlock Team Arenas by winning a certain number of Random Arenas. A PvPer will be able to give you the exact details.
You can only get 2,000 faction a day from Zaishen, so until you unlock the other areas it will be slow. If you want a non-hostile person to go zaishening with I'd be happy to take you along. The introductory quests are easy enough to do by yourself and will earn you some faction too.

Once you've learned the ropes, get yourself some cheap PvP unlock packs in the online store.

Go to the Zaishen Challenge, and earn exactly 2k Balthazar Faction from there everyday. That's the limit on THAT AREA per day. No other area has a limit to how much you can make.
Ignore pumkin pie's mention of the survivor title. Not only could a new player not achieve it, but it shouldn't be important to you anyway.

Practice in zaishen is what i would suggest also, try not to "stay with what works", try new skill sets, change your role in the team, explore the skill synergy . PvP's learning curve is steep, but I am glad zaishen is around.
