Um... trade the Kanaxai for one? And if you're not in it to win the big prize you really shouldn't be in it at all.

Does anyone else realize this question pops up every time North America has a contest? No, offense jezz. Here's a quick read for you.

I've already started my design. Maybe I'll even finish it tonight. Was a lot quicker to think of than the weapon contest, hehe.

Cool contest. I hope I win! Of course... that requires coming up with a hat idea... hmmm...

Please do share the other "dozens" of typos, so we can make a better page.

Fun times.
artists should boycott these "contests" to make the developers pay real illustrators who make a living at this what they're worth, instead of seeking out freebies from hobbyists.

One of the artists predicted someone would say this.
This is not an evil ploy to exploit the masses to get "free art." This contest is taking a LOT of machinations on our part to fit it into the artists schedule. In truth, we already have a Grenth hat designed and ready to go. But in order to offer this opportunity, because we thought it would be cool and inclusive (and because several players had suggested it) the art team is willing to look over probably hundreds of entries and use one entered by a player, rather than the already-completed, already "paid for" art.
It is far, far more time-consuming, difficult, and expensive--in time and in actual dollars--for us to offer this contest than to simply do it ourselves.
Your post is truly unfair.

It's a "debaticle" simply because--out of 1,000+ entries--you didn't win? Don't put yourself down like that!

I'd do it for a mini Vizu, but I have no artistic talent whatsoever. That is unless, of course, stick figures are what the Art Team is really looking for.

That is what I did essentially. MS Painted a pic, a reference pic so they had an IDEA of what I was try to show them, and a short description in the email.
I have no drawing talent, but I have over a dozen ideas running through my head for Dwayna and Grenth hats for Wintersday.

Gaile, it has nothing to do with whether I won or not....the thread about the contest winners went on for many many pages (and I was only one tiny voice in that thread)......I could care less if I win or not----the others seemed to have other ideas etc (but I'm sure you remember the thread so no need to beat that horse again).
And if I enter a contest, yes I do plan on getting to the winners, however, for the halloween contest the HM prize was better than any of the winners ones so I was hoping to at least place, but ah well.....water under that bridge is all dried up.
And trading minis is a waste of time especially when you want one that there is only what 20 of? Spending hours, no days spamming wtb is not my idea of playing gw, much better things to do in game than that.
I entered my suggestion here for the hat for wintersday, if anyone wants to use it go ahead.....I dont have the time to get a picture up and running before the deadline (nor do I have photoshop to do it on, so I would need to mail it in as well.....and the usps is well known for its inability to get things to where they need to be when its supposed to get there). So under the constraints of this contest I am not going to spend my few free hours working on it. (my mom's 80'th bday is much more important to me right now....and its on thanksgiving so I need to get my butt in gear for that!)
good luck to the one who wins.

Wow Gaile quoted me! And here I thought no one reads my posts. No, there aren't dozens of typos I admit - I was just being sarcastic to the post that rather spend a spot laughing at a typo rather than commenting on the contest. The only other typo I noticed is:

Missing a period in there to mark the end of the first sentence. I sometimes forget sarcasm doesn't transfer in type. I'll refrain from using my powers so much

Oh, Kha, I do feel better! I thought "Oh, lord, we had about four people read that page, can it have a dozen errrors!?" Sorry I missed the sarcasm. (We really need a universal sarcasm symbol, I think. Oh, and I sent off word on that missing period.)
And guys, while a nicely drawn graphic is appreciated, the real point is to get your ideas across so that the artists can take it from there. Stick figures are more than fine.

I'm definitely entering. I think contests like these are great fun, whether I end up winning or not. It's always nice to see that a company takes time to indulge their artistic fans and let them be creative with something they enjoy doing. Also, if an artist feels like they're being "ripped off" (which, btw, is a totally idiotic idea in this case) then they don't have to enter. More prizes for the rest of us.
Thank you!

Yup, and dont forget you can draw the sketch on paper and scan it in (seeing as I am also totally useless at computer artistry and only slightly useless at normal art ).
I wouldnt expect any entry to be a freebie for ANET anyways, because its pretty difficult to pin a .bmp picture to an ingame character.... They would stil need the work of those "lazy" artists to actually make the hat a 3D object... but if you really think that they are doing this to save any money, then dont enter and save them even more money by not haveing to judge your pic .
P.S. Yea, the choice between the 3 minis for the finalists is really a bit silly,
1. the price ranges are a bit far apart.
2. most players already have 1 or 2 of those on their accounts already leaving them the choice of the third.. it would be nice if ANET could make it possible to add keys for identical things like minipets for these situations (seeing as I traded my Asura, and regret it... guess Ill have to buy one again then)
