Thats because GW is a great game for the price.
Its not however good enough to play if they charged a fee.

I would definately try it out and decide whether it was worth a fee, but I doubt Anet will introduce them.

If GW2 had a fee, I'd just play something else. They couldn't make it good enough to where I'd blow real cash on it every month. I mean, there could be a skill for me alone, which when used lets my toon crap out 100k in gold, and I still wouldn't pay a buck a month.
But my own cheapness aside, let's list some reasons why I won't pay a fee for any GW game.
1. The community has gone to crap. By far this is the most important reason. The bickering drives me nuts sometimes.
2. ANet keeps changing things. I realize there's a balance to be kept, but instead of separating PvP and PvE, one keeps feeling the impact from abuses by the other. I'm going to pay monthly to be pissed off? Sorry, I already have a Time Warner bill.
3. For $15 a month I can get the movie channels.
4. I've seen people get banned for no reason, or lose a toon over a name as simple as Mez Yer Azz. This is part ANet's fault, and part the community's fault... hell, part society's fault. If Mez Yer Azz pisses you off, you have issues.
Basically, if I wanted a monthly fee for living through an assload of grief for those one or two rare moments of pure joy, I'd get married. I would not pay to play a video game I already paid for.

Only thing to comment you on... marriage is by far more expensive than GW.

But would we really get that much higher quality content or would we end up with a ton of little GW:ENs?

It's essentially designed as a singly player rpg story world with online PvP and co-operative PvE included.
It's fine that way as it's something some people were really happy to see.
The only thing having every game try to emulate a certain design, such as subcription fee with high level cap and huge worlds, would accomplish is to muddy the genre's water.
What fun would that be. Once you get bored of 1 game you turn around and see every other game is just the same thing.

Unfortunately life is not that simple and math always works on the exclusion of variables like greed.
In this case more money could simply mean more profit and only means more content if Anet would link cash influx directly to content which Blizzard doesn't do either because guess what...they pay a monthly fee AND have to pay for expansions. And with 8 million or more players as they boast they are either running very expensive servers or they are just cashing in big time on all those millions who accept to pay more than they really need to for their game.
If I look at the 144 Euro's people have to spend on monthly fees each year and the fact that I can buy 3-4 other games with that same amount of money then I would choose the other games for variation. It doesn't matter which game you play but after a few years anybody would want to play something else for simply variation. And that goes for WoW players as well. In that sense GW2 is a great move as it is.
But just take note that simple math only applies to simple situations without any applicable variables and this is not the case here.

I disagree.
People who actually earn their own money are notably loth to spend money buying a game and then spending money again to play it.
Parents pay game fees to keep the kids quiet and out of their hair. I think we'd see a lot more undesirables with a fee system.
This is not to say that all kids are undesirable. However, the parents paying game fees to keep the kids quiet and out of their hair are not providing much in the way of love or esteem to their kids, and they end up behaving like morons in online games to prove they have something others don't.
Yeah. Bad parents.

There are bad apples in all age groups.
I'd say the fee system deters behavior only in that getting banned really kicks you in the sensitives if you were paying all this time for the account.

Your opening post has nothing whatsoever to do with your thread's title. In regards to your thread's title question: there won't be a fee. It's one of the core design decisions for the game. It always has been.
As far as game balance and skill introduction goes, they've said they plan to simplify both the number of skills and their complexity. It's way too early to talk about game balance without any skills to discuss. There's no data.

I don't mind paying a fee, but if i did i wouldn't play as much since i would not be able to just jump in, play for a week and then stop for a month or 2 without loosing a bunch of money.

Just for the record, I was playing Devil's Advocate with that post. I'm a fan of Arena Nets current business model. The current model holds them much more accountable to their customer. Thus, to survive, they'll have to keep "content and quality" in high regard.
Something you are not getting with Blizzard, as most players have a Massive investment of time, Blizzard has em by the proverbial "Balls" so to speak. Check the other thread on "What I should do before Deleting a Character." You ain't gonna see that one on the Blizz forums, players feel like they have some sort of Virtual investment in that game. Vendor and Delete is the only way to be free of those sorts of shenanigans.

I dont play games that charge monthly fee's and neither should you.
The more of us that boycott pay to play games, th fewer of them there will be. They make Plenty of money selling millions of copies of games for 50-100 bucks each, there is no reason besides greed, that there is pay to play games.
And if GW2 went to pay to play, i would quit and go back to playing Counterstrike.
