It totally irks me when someone posts "you ungrateful sob, it's a free gift". The title of this thread is "wintersday hats". As we've seen, both positive and negative comments have been posted about the hats. But don't call people ungrateful for simply posting their opinion about something, even if it's a free gift.

Gaile your just doing your job, so please pass the message along to the developers and to IT....

Hat designs = Fail
Server lag = Fail
Attempts to prevent game hopping = Fail (The fail in this one, is that by limiting to already created districts you have increased the lag enormously. Its not the minis causing the lag, its the fact that you must be in the district before the event starts causing afk'ers and overloads. Think back to any past event including the halloween one this year and you will see that mini's weren't a issue nor were afk'ers, why because the mad king would appear in newly created districts for a period of time)

GW's since the announcement of GW2 = Fail

Always a bad idea to abandon your faithful player base before the new game is actually release..

Must say...I wasn't too excited by the hats at first. Got the Dwanya wreath on my mini monk and it looks quite fetching actually

Would look kinda lame for guy chars (except the earlier paragon looks fab, and the purple war takes a prize lol) The icy crown isn't what I was hoping for based on the contest drawing, but it's aiite lol. I was hoping for glow or at least more icy, but Grenth is a death god, so maybe that's why they went more....tombstone ice?

Everything is taste guys....personally, most of my guild hated last year's Freezie head thing, but many, many others love it. *shrug* To each their own, right?

Diddy Bow, I'm so sorry... the first thing I thought of then I saw that pic was Chris Crocker (the "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!" guy). XD

EDIT: Lakatz, that's more or less what I had in mind as well. :P And I was so hoping the crystals could be dyed.

I like Dwayna's wreath crown, even if it doesn't suit many characters, especially male characters.

The Ice Crown, eh, the wig portion is kind of funny.

im afraid thats EXACTLY what i thought :P

i think that the comments along the lines of "BE GRATEFUL ITS A FREE GIFT!!1!11!111!!!1!ONEONE1!!1!1" are just trying to kiss up to anet. they know that they dislike the hats. i dont mean any offence to anet, they did a pretty good job with the hats, their only flaws being A: people saw Nians amazing design and were let down hugely. if i had never seen nians design, i would think the ice crown is much better. B: the fact that both crowns make male characters look like complete idiots. i havnt tried my hats on my female characters yet, but hopefully they will be more dignified.

oh by the way, lag spikes ftl.

Anet hasn't released an official date for when GW2 comes out and I highly doubt it will be released at the very end of '08.

So we will most likely have another GW1 Wintersday event with hats being given out.

I'm loving the Wreath Crown. Makes my char look like he's about to become a sacrificial victim.

In fact I might head over to the Cathedral of Flames and take some screenies with the Charr Effigies, try and recreate the final scene from "The Wicker Man."

Different strokes; I don't see it that way at all. I'm not exactly Anet's biggest fan anyway, and I'm not kissing up at all when I tell people to show a little maturity and quit QQing over a gift. If you got an ugly hat for Christmas IRL, would you throw it in the face of the gift giver and scream, "I HATE IT!"? No, because you're not a spoiled three-year-old. These teenagers and adults spamming the thread with "hurf durf gg anetz, omfg legendary fail" are just wearing a little thin.

While the hats are nothing to write home about, I grabbed and saved both. The wreath is pretty and the ice crown, while not what I expected, is worth a bit of comedy value. I'd be interested to know how many "OMG THERE FUGLY" whiners stood in LA/Kamadan all the same and quickly saved their hats. :P

I like them both. They are both very detailed and complex models. Compare the simplicity of the first Pumpkin Crown to the Flower Wreath, then tell me A.net is "slacking off in preperation for GW2."
Some complaints are understandable. The Frost Crown hair thing could have been done differently, but its still alright as is.

And the lag isn't NEARLY as bad as Dragonfest. It helps a lot if you use -image. I'm on 56k and even then I only had 5000 ms ping. It was only bad when the grenchies show up killing people.

I really like the Wreath Crown but I was not happy at all with what they did to Nian's Ice Crown. They should have handled the "bald" problem the same way as with the Wicked Hat and Yule Cap (similar to what lakatz showed us).

After 2006, I was also extremely disappointed that we only had two hats this year too. aNet should extend the event and give us two more and fix the Ice Crown.

I say the hats look good overall, minus the funny wig on the Grenth hat. Also, the Dwayna hat is too complex, its kind of mashed together. Maybe its just my computer.

But, the hats, 9/10 times, will not look like the original. If you wanted to keep the hair, that would mean the removal of hairbands etc, it would be glitchy and akward with some hair styles.
