I for one really didn't like the original Ice Crown so I see no big deal about how it looks now. I just collect the hats and never wear them so no problem there either. They are a gift that ANET gives you for free and yet people still complain. "My opinion of the GW forum posters disappoints me more everytime I log in." Now for all you about to flame my opinion get ready to prove my quoted statement.

I'm sure Anet did the best they could with the design. It's not as though they had a 'lets upset as many people as possible' during it's designed. As for the colots, I dunno maybe making it shinier would have caused too much lag, clipping or clashes with everything else. As Gaile said the engine is limited in what it can do, so they had to work around it.

The crown would however have looked great with no candles on.

Errr.. pretty sure there are more people complaining now about the shitty hats than their characters going bald. In fact, the 05 hats and some of the 06 ones (which still made your character bald) were and still are enjoyed by many.

But hey, it's not the first time ANet's screwed up, right? Let's hope they get the skill/PvP balance right- I'm sure people will learn to love their hats ^^

#Grenth's crown ain't like thewinning concept. It looks like made from stone, not ice. There are plenty of frozen waterfalls in GW and I can asure you you guys NEVER decipted ice like that in your own game, whats more the concept was originally GLOWING.
#the" top of the head and bald" excuse... I might swallow it if not for mesmer masks, Grenth's horns and blindfold. You obviously an do things taht stay on the top of the head and leave hair intact so that excuse won;t work either. Just be honest and say that all leading artists are working on GW or AION atm ...

I just hope I can get my UGLY Grenths crown AGAIN w/o server crash and forget about the wholer thing.

Anet just want to make sure that people stay with the game until they can offer them GW2's info or something. GW's replayability (if you don't take into account the grinding and the "repeating stuff in a harder mode") is nearly non-existent even with so many classes to choose from. People will get bored real quick with so many other games to choose from.

The fact that GW doesn't have monthly-fee, in my opinion, forces it to compete with every no-monthly fee game on PC (at least). Crysis, CoD4, etc etc etc.

I really want to see them STOP with these events though. But they can't. They just can't.

1. It's not easy to come up with something original about the same theme for 3 years.
2. They are free.
3. The "baldness problem".

I actually I'm liking them. The best are 2005 hats anyway, but these are nice too.

if they had stayed to that guys design more with the shinyness and the reflections off the ice the ice crown would have owned..sadly anet made another hat ill care about for 10 mins then quickly forget it

next year id like to see minis...grentchie for grenth and reindeer for dwayna...maybe either automatically devote or just let the economy work it out..itd end up like the pig so worthless anyone could get one...but still grentchie mini would be coo and a reindeer too

1. No, not at all. That's why they get other people to come up with the ideas (By no means am I saying the design contest is bad) and professionals to make the ideas work. Professionals. As others have said, all the elements to make the hat work like the original design are evident in GW: the glowing is clearly evident in chaos axes/gloves and the blindfolds and Grenth Horns clearly disprove the whole "above the head no-can-do excuse".
2. When 90% of the event is the same stale crap you've experienced for three years it's hard to please people, even if the gifts are free (especially if they are ugly as hell).
3. Again, this is a BS excuse because we all know it can be done. However, in the case that it really isn't possible, baldness (like the other hats which are actually pretty cool) would go unnoticed if the hat was as awesome as the designer's one.

no for me playing for two years then scrubbing these hats cuz they have GW2 to work on is mean...they cant make two good hats for us

Well my char is bald anyway, so no real problem for me.

As for the events being a bit stale, keep in mind there are some new players to GW for who this will be completely new.

While Anet would love to keep every player happy, they can't create events that focus only on people that purchased GW in 2005 or sooner.

That explains the hundreds of people in the contest thread who were stating how pointless the hat would be, and how much it would be ruined if we lose our hair while wearing.

Even if the hair doesn't match your character, it still looks a lot better than going bald. At least for females.

Yep, these are some pretty ugly hats. Oh well not like we had a use for hats other then to wonder what they'll be and never use them again after. Bring on the rest of the weapon design contest skins.
