I don't get why we're getting information on Guild Wars 2 when its not going to be release in about 2 years. Shouldn't A-Net but leaking out information on what Chapter 4 has in store for us?

I am *really* gonna miss that. Not only is it useful, but much more relaxing. It also reminded me of the Diablo days...Except Guild Wars (unfortunately) isn't a click-fest.

As of now, there will be no monthly fees, and no 'campaigns' for Guild Wars 2... mini-expansions, and expansions are hinted at.

sounds like it may even have a digital distribution built in similar to Steam or even downloadable packs like NeverWinter Nights. If its cheap enough this could be nice.

Closed beta? No..not likely to happen.
Open beta? Yes, I would agree with that. Those who play GW1 should have a "Free" invite to try out the open beta for GW2 without having to pay for a pre-order from a retailer. Though you know we will most likely go out a buy up all the pre-orders anyway to get the pre-order items/advantages (That is if Anet does that again).

YES! QFT! I want to know more about GW: Eyes of the North. That may be a stepping stone for many of us from GW1 to GW2.

Yeah, I remember Lonesamurai suggesting something like this. It would also be a way to link Guild Wars and GW2, through an NCSoft account program like Steam. I thought his idea was pretty good, kudos to him.

Uh, hate to break this to you: There will be no Chapter 4.
There will be an Expansion called Eyes of the North. And, IMO, the reason they are hyping GW2 is because it sounds like a lot of what we can carry over will be based somewhat on what we complete in GW:EN. So, they are tied directly together, and it just makes sense to hype one in order to build hype for the other. (I'll post the Gaile quote again, just because it seems some still haven't seen it):

If you link a Guild Wars 2 character to a Guild Wars character, the GW2 character will inherit the GW character’s accomplishments, as recorded in your Hall of Monuments. The Hall of Monuments, available through Guild Wars: Eye of the North, will provide access to unique companions, equipment, miniatures, titles, etc. that can’t be obtained any other way in GW2.
I like the whole idea of building a "family history" for my characters in The Hall of Monuments. With the timespan between Guild Wars: Eye of the North and Guild Wars 2, the whole idea that other players have suggested--passing things (even names) down "through the family" and so forth--is cool!

I don't know, I guess I'm a spastic player - I tend to just keep clicking on all my skills, even when they are recharging!

My assumption is that they had to explain themselves as to why they are releasing an expansion and not another chapter.
If they didnt mention Guildwars 2 and only mentioned that we are getting an expansion but not a new chapter, then all hell would break loose with random threads of people stating that Anet broke their promise blah blah blah.
They're in it to make money and a make a great game. If the formula isnt working for them, then change the formula to make it work in the future.
I'm not entirely thrilled about not being able to take my characters over, but I knew that Guildwars 1 wouldnt last forever. I'm over it, I've had my fun and I'm ready for new experiences.

You don't get "ganked" in WoW - you play on a nice PvE server where if you want to fight someone, it must take place in a mutually accepted duel, or within the PvP battlegrounds. If you lose a duel, you don't even die - simply get down on your knees and beg for mercy so everyone knows your shameful defeat. Life goes on.
"Killsteal" doesn't happen, you get first hit on something it's yours. Etiquette usually entails not even touching someone's battle unless they're going to die, though tossing them a heal or enchantment is usually something that'll get you a "thanks."
"Loot steal" can't happen because when you hit something it's yours.
I suppose there could be some crazy stalker dude who decides to stalk you, and jumps around and other dumb stuff - dunno if that's bannable behavior or not, but it's definitely not profitable behavior.
There's a reason World is currently the most popular moo-moo. Their customers are paying $15 a month to NOT play Guild Wars, after all.

So just to clarify, will the items and armor and cash be usable in some way or sort of just be standing there in a trophy case?

What will happen to Heroes' Ascent?

Just because its an RPG doesn't mean it can't have elements from other genres, all I'm saying is be open minded about it. Whats the difference between a spell and a bullet or that your PoV is 1st or 3rd person when in the end the same effect occurs.

I'm kinda lost TBH... i dun't see what Guild wars gameplay has to do with the other 1st person genre game...
I think that's what makes guild wars pvp good... It's different from the other competitive genre (like Halo, Unreal or Half-life,etc... )
I think it's more a matter of preference. Some ppl prefer tactical game like warcraft3/starcraft while others prefer 1st person shooter.
And with guild wars, we have another genre... (there are other competitive game like soccer games , etc...)
What makes guild wars unique is that...it's different...
I dun't think we can compare Guild wars with other pvp genre (if that's what you mean...)
Just like we can't compare warcraft3/starcraft to 1st person shooter...i realy can't see how we can compare guild wars to a 1st person shooter...
The gameplay is just different....

Has anyone seen any evidence that the Chapter formula wasn't working, or that Anet just wanted to make some major changes (persistant bits, new races, etc) and thought now would be a good time to develop GW 2.
It was probably a hard decision: Anet is going to lose about 2 years of full Chapter money.
Assuming future Chapters would be $50, that's at least $200 per player, not counting additional copies or CEs. How many players would buy all 4 Chapters? 2 million at least? $400 million in lost sales?
That's a lot of money to make up. I wonder how much Guild Wars 2 will cost?
Keep in mind, Anet will STILL be paying for the server upkeep on Guild Wars for at least 3 years.
I mean, I'm not worried, I'm sure they have a business plan worked out, but I don't think they made the decision to announce GW2 now lightly.

Yes, I know all that, I play WoW too. And don't tell me killsteal does not happen, I lost a hour yesterday trying to kill a certain mob. That's why I like the fact that GW is all instanced.

The way that reads... you can bring your pets, weapons, armor, runes, minipets etc. into GW2 for a specific character linked to another through GW:EN.
We can keep our toys, we can keep our names. We only lose experience.
Think of your characters grandson/granddaughter finding this big chest with all of Grampy's old stuff (ignore that the pet might have died... )
If you think about it... we really can bring our characters to GW2, just reborn.

Skullcrasher, there are not going to be any more chapters. Chatper 3 was the last one. GWEN is an expansion of the first game and not a new chapter.

I agree, all this Guildwars 2 talk is overshadowing GW: Eyes of the North. I would prefer to focus on that first since thats what we will be playing in the near future. GW2 is so far off, why even bother with it yet?
I assume a GW: Eyes of the North forum section is coming soon?
