there is one MAJOR difference there.
Factions added on to what we already owned.
GW2 completely replaces it. Everything we know and have will be worthless.
I STILL want to know about character slots. I JUST bought a new character slot, and then I find out guild wars is being replaced. PLEASE tell me purchased gw slots will have some effect in gw2.... otherwise just delete my characters now and give me my money back T_T

Higher lvl cap

Hopefully they won't repeat what they did in GW1 and make everything so damn easy so that its casually boring...

Quote:
Players may choose to support future development of the game and expand their own playing experiences by purchasing new chapters -- called "campaigns" -- of the Guild Wars story. These campaigns will be offered about every six to nine months, and will be competitively priced. Unlike most "expansion packs," the new campaigns will be approximately equal in size to the initial campaign of Guild Wars.

Ok, but if GW:Nightfall was the LAST campaign, how are they breaking a "promise"? The above quote does not say every 6 to 9 months indefinitely. From what I read GW: EN is an expansion.

I will be glad when all these doom and gloom merchants leave.
GW is a game I have only been playing for the last 9 months, but in that time I have played virtually every day, sometimes for several hours. The reason for that is that I love it. I played D&D when it first came out (yes I am that old) and ever since then have been hoping to find a game that really captured that feeling for me. The Baldur's Gate games were excellent, but when online games really started to take off I knew I had to try them. I played WoW and hated it, but thankfully I tried again and found GW. I was instantly hooked, it brought back all the enjoyment I first felt upon playing D&D. I have seen many, games on many platforms over the years and GW is the game I have been wanting to play all my life.
Having said all that, I welcome the change to GW2. Certain things about GW were going to get ridiculous if they kept with the same format. Plus most of the things mentioned so far sound very exciting to me.
It seems to offer even more choice. In WoW I HAD to plod and grind right from the start. In GW I was engaged by a fantastic storyline that had me to level 20 before I knew it. Then after completing the storyline I could do the titan quests, play in FoW and UW, start a new character. Do whatever I wanted to really, consequently I still love it after 3000 hours of game time.
If you read what has been mentioned here properly, you will see that it seems to offer the things that everyone is moaning about, in ADDITION to the GW game we all know and love.
Yes I will be sad to see the end of my characters, but at least they have some sort of legacy that will carry forward to the new game. This seems to me the only sensible way to handle it. I will be in for GW:EoN and GW2 (hopefully as a beta tester). These are very exciting times.

About the partial "transfers" from GWEN to GW2: Will we be able to port our rank/fame? Some of us have invested a lot of time in that. This seems like a pretty disappointing way to lose all that work.

Richard Garriott is heading Tabula Rosa, NOT Guild Wars, so he's not speaking for Anet.
He said, "the Guild Wars business model has been so successful that we are pursuing more products with this same model."
I took that to mean the "No Monthly Fee" model, not necessarily the "new Chapter every six month" model.
Obviously, Anet will have to make money selling expansions for GW2, but exactly what their schedule is, it is WAY too early to even conjecture at this point.

As to all the "This is World of Guildcraft" comments: Can we get some specifics on this?
Is it the races that bug people? If so, lots of MMORPGs have different races.
Is it huge battles that bother you? If so, lots of MMORPGs have huge battles.
Is it the extended level cap that bothers you? Well, that bothers me too, but again, Lots of MMORPGs have higher level cap. I'm hoping Guild Wars 2 level caps are more cosmetic than anything.
Things that make Guild Wars unique- NO MONTHLY FEES
- Easy access to PvP (made even easier with UAX in GW2)
- Easy to find max armor and weapons
- Level 20 cap
As long as the increased levels don't make PvE unplayable by casual players, I'm just don't see why people are hating on Guild Wars 2. It sounds just like the Guild Wars we know and love, but with more options.
I guess we'll wait and see, but for those decrying GW 2 because it's "just like WoW", can you cite some examples of why you think so?

I'll but GW:EN and play for as long as I like.
I'll buy GW2 and give it a try. Maybe it'll click with me, maybe it won't.
That's all, ask me again in 2009.

Out of interest...I didn't notice in the OP... The continent. Is the continent Tyria? Or will it have a new name? I'm highly confusled. Just wondered if this new area had a name, because most of it seems to be tunnels underneath Tyria, if it was in actual fact still Tyria...but then there's an extra bit at the top to the north ... will this have a new name, or be a new continent like Elona was?

What I want to know is:
All you "OMFG no low level cap it's WoW!" people- what will you do if it turns out that a level 20 is just as strong as a level 100? That all you get for leveling is skill points and veteran status? What will you do THEN?
Also remember- Gaile SPECIFICALLY stated that the exact value of the "higher level cap" is still up in the air at the moment. The magazine's probably just going for shock value.
Currently, I'm just going to wait until the game actually COMES OUT. Once we actually know what it's going to be like, everything else is moot. Remember how much different GW:P is from the Beta?
EDIT: Oh, and has anyone else noticed that this new expansion is acronym-ed GWEN? :P

I think these 2 are most important:
The most balanced PvP in any MMO around.
Not to say it is perfectly balanced, but it is the most balanced.
and
Rewarding Skill vs Time spent
I dont care what the max level is, if in PvP, level is capped and balanced so that all players have equal opportunity to fight, and no amount of time spent will give you a material advantage, then i will be happy.

I am very exited about the expansion
IMO they implemented almost everything people were asking for in the forums.
For me there are some "likes" and some "dislikes" and there will be for everyone.
We all /signed or /notsigned on many ideas, makes me happy to see that Anet listens to it's users and would love to see what they make of it.
I mean catacombs spanning 3 continents what more can you ask for?
Good job people.
Oh and not everything is WoW ppl ideas come from all the millions of mmo's and players out there, it's just fact that WoW has alot of those features. In the Netherlands we say: "Beter goed gejat, dan slecht bedacht" it roughly means: "Better steal a good idea, then think of a bad one"

i cant wait ... id buy GW:EN anway. I would love the current gw1 servers to remain active though. My monk ive spent so long on, giong through all campaignss will be worthless in my eyes.
The hall of Monuments does sound pretty cool though, i just hope its not only titles we can transfer. If the titles u transfer become accoutn based that would rock. especialyl when many of my characters have different titles.
Slots?
As GW:EN is going to be a "expansion", will we get extra slots? If it is 2 like every other, i will be happy. Then i can have 1 of every profession without buying slots via online store

I suppose so. There's still alot of unexplored regions on the map. To the east/north of Tyria/Elona, to the south of Cantha. It takes places 100's of years in the future, and the GW1 heroes will be remembered by the new GW2 heroes, so it's only logical it takes places on Tyria again. This doesn't mean the continent will look the same. Maybe it's ravaged by war, flooded, who knows.

I admittedly haven't read the ENTIRE thread yet, but it sure seems as though GW:EN has been forgotten in all of this. I personally can't get terribly excited/bent out of shape for something that is still two years away. All we have is a paragraph's worth of info on Eye of the North, was there ANYTHING else interesting in the article about it? For example, anything about the 'extended character development beyond level 20'?

Wrong, all of that is why I play GW, not some of it, not the latter half, ALL of it, I like the no grind, I like humans and not gimmicky races, I like the team structure with no BS chaos fighting, I like it with no monthly payments, I like the easy access to PVP, I like the easy max armor... All of those things are what made GW unique, not just the no monthly payments.
