I'll go for GW:EN, But after that, I will be out. I love this game and many things about it, and I hate the idea of it becoming typical. It sounds like any other MMO, Guild Wars caught my eye by not being like the others, and now it's gone.
On top of all this, I am going to sit and stare at the characters I have played with for 2 years, and wonder why I bothered. Sure its been great fun, but the fact that Guild Wars two won't have my beloved ranger there, or my very first character ever kills me.
Many aspects of all of this sound great, But most of it doesn't.

I'm still wondering if I'll buy GW:EN. It's a throw-in-the-air.
I originally invested my money in GW because of the Expansion system (weren't there suppsoed to be 7 chapters?) I feel like a big portion of my investment is being blown out of the water. Why shoudl I continue to play a game I KNOW will be outdated in time, that ANET isn't willing or wanting to continue with? It makes me feel like ANET believes the GW1 model is a failure...it's a shame.

It would be nice if all comments relating to GW and WoW would be deleted. Am I the only one who wants to speculate about GW:EN? GW2 is 2 years away.

Do yourselves a favor...
You know that famous expression. "If you want to know, read the [blinkin'] manual!" (Some liberties taken with the verbiage there. )
I really, really hope that you guys will go out of your way to find this magazine. Or try to find whichever one a local media partner is publishing about Guild Wars: Eye of the North or Guild Wars 2. Give it a thorough read. Read it from front to back. And then once again from back to front, if you wish. The point is, the article is stuffed with information of all kinds, and it's really difficult for anyone to provide all the details of so much content in forum posts or bullet-point lists. It really is worthwhile for you to find and read this article yourself!
The magazine isn't expensive, and you get an in-game miniature if you buy one. If you don't choose to buy, or if you're located where a PC Gamer is not available, do keep in mind that many public libraries and some schools subscribe to major gaming magazines and you may be able to find a copy there. All in all, there will be much more information -- in many places -- over the next couple of months, as you can see on the Media Partners Page. Find it. Read it. We think you'll like it a lot.

The only thing that worries me a little is the raised level cap. Okay, I don't hate the idea, and I won't write it off, but I'm one of those people who has 10 characters. One of each profession... All lvl20, all having completed at least one of the campaigns (apart from my sadly nelected Paragon...)
With a raised level cap, I'll likely feel the need to focus on one character, so I can get that high level, and not be judged as less able player than I am...
But I'll feel like I'm missing out if I can't enjoy the game from the standpoint of every profession any more...
I'll probably get used to it. It's not a huge gripe... I'm just a little worried...
|
I agree with this also. A lvl cap of 100 might be a little too high, but hey, I'll just wait and see what Anet is going to do. I am still excited about what is coming in the future.

And what makes you think they won't have matching content for that high lvl cap/no lvl cap system? My guess is that since the game will be free like GW1 they will have constant expansions/updates to make money/keep players playing.
All in all it is too early to tell, but people will still blind themselves and shout /IQUIT because it's not the exact same game GW1 was. These are the same people who rarely played GW anymore, and now come out of nowhere like they were RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing faithful to the game and kept the community alive.Personally I found myself playing less and less as days went on.
GW2 sounds like it could hold people's attention for longer than a week, and this is a welcomed change from me and hopefully the mass.

thats how I'm feeling right now.
3 million players = failure? For some reason I don't view that as failure.

Trust me. I dont think killing the same stuff over and over again is content. Nor did I even say that. But a higher level cap (depending on how slow you level) will be just that....killing stuff over and over just to level.
I was talking about ACTUAL content that doesnt involve mind numbing repetitiveness.

Did someone ask the question about all the professions being carried over to GW 2? I would really like to play the devrish again.

I am VERY VERY VERY disappointed in the decision to raise the level cap. That's not cool. At all. Maybe I'll wait to get my own copy and read it carefully, but something I really love in GW is the ability to make a PvE char and plpay for a few days. If you get bored, you can go PvP with it!
Instances are wonderful. Part of what I hated in WoW was the stupid thing with a bajillion other players all waiting for things to spawn so they could go out and kill them for their lame ass "Kill X of Y" quests. If ANet manages to pull this off without long lines waiting to kill "Valslav the Bone Crusher" to complete the "Zomfg kill Valslav lolz kthnxbai" quest, than I might be OK with it. Oh, and kill stealing too. And how are they going to regulate the drops for this?
Playable races... OK fine whatever as long it is COSMETIC ONLY.
Nontransferable chars, that is something I have been waiting for info on. As much as I love how my warrior looks in 15K Kurzick with a Spiked Axe and Sunreach's Shield, and how much pwnage she can dish out, and all the time I spent on her, I was REALLY hoping they would let us transfer. But from a technical standpoint, I can see why not. New engine and stuff, you know.
ANYWAYS, I am worried about the direction GW is going, but we'll just have to give ANet a chance. Who knows, it might be oozing with leetness.

Well, the Dredge in Echovald do mention tunneling over from Sorrow's Furnace - and from our current understanding, Tyria and Cantha are probably the two furthest apart from each other (with Elona in between and a little to the side).
On GW(1) ending - It came as a bit of a shock to me, but in truth, every game has a certain degree of turnover. The GW1 model did seem to have the potential to go on forever (at least in principle) although it now appears that's not the direction it's taking - but consider that few if any games don't eventually reach the point where they fall by the wayside in favour of using new technology. For instance, I'm willing to bet that by the time GW2 rolls around, we'll have started getting hints about WoW2* or Universe of Starcraft or whatever the next one is going to be...
In the actual direction things are going, I will be... cautiously observant. I don't think the sky is falling, but I certainly do have some concerns.

I'm more interested in Eyes in the North too, we all know Gwen is part of some subterranean plot that drove the Stone Summit insane and then forced the Dredge into enslavement, hence Gwen = Leader of Stone Summit. But what annoys me is people calling it GW:EN, I hope ANet do make it include something about Gwen so we can kill/find her and end this nonsense....

I'm open to GW2. But, not being able to transfer my characters over will have a critical role in deciding whether I will buy GW2 or not. Imho, this is a poor decision. Continuity is an important issue considering how much time we spent developing our characters.
Titles aren't important to me as most of them do not have an impact on the actual gameplay. Think of the hours spent capping skills, getting armor, or ectos farmed, and it becomes a mute point if GW2 doesn't allow the transfer to take place. I certainly hope Anet will reconsider this. Time portal, time rift, time demension....etc.. not too hard to implement into a fantasy story line. But, we shall see.

I know and I agree with you.
But allow us to transfer name only from GW1... don't want others to steal my name.

I am inclined to agree with many here that have said that the lack of transfer into GW2 of existing characters is perhaps the biggest negative. In fact it may be a huge marketing mistake on the part of Anet since the feeling of "having wasted my time" seems to be quite prevalent in the community (most of my guild in fact has said that they are not even going to buy Eye of the North now since it is pointless in their opinion).
While I will wait till Beta to make any opinion on GW2 myself, I will probably only get Eye of the North for one of my accounts to see how the story ends since I do see a sort of pointlessness to collecting wealth, items, holiday stuff, mini-pets, etc from now on. Of course with a two plus year gap between major releases, the Guild Wars franchise may not even survive the long haul with the imminent release of Warhammer Online and Lord of the Rings Online into a market that WOW already has the lion's share of, especially in light of the now divided community.
Of well, back to LOTRO for me it looks like till at least near end of year.

Truthfully, I like it.
Now, before anyone jumps down my head:
About the level cap: I want an increase. I just ope they do it so you increase as the game goes on (through the story) so there isnt any grind.
As for races, love it. I just hope they dont make the differences, if any, to big.
As for large free span worlds, I like it, but I hope they have instanced worlds too.

Actually I do think they will have high level content to match the level cap system. I'm just hoping that it isnt just an excuse to add more repetitiveness to account for the higher level cap. (i.e. chasing the carrot on stick game mechanic)
I wish there were more clarification on the new level cap system so this mess can be cleared up.

Exactly what i expected has been posted. The typical posts: WOW CLONE, and OMG IM LEAVING. Anet has made a lot of mistakes with Guild Wars 1 (No offense ANET) and it seems like there starting anew and get it completely correct this time around. I know my first character wont be there, but...its 100 YEARS after. Do you expect your character to be immortal? No. As what i have read, this game seems VERY fun. I will deffinitely buy it, and since it has the Anet and NCsoft logos on it, im sure ill be buying a good product. I see GW becoming a little more typical with GW2, but sometimes that can be better. We will just have to wait and see what product rises in 09/10. MY ONLY QUESTION: HOW DO I GET INTO BETA! xD

jesus christ, Gaile has already posted both in this and in the last post, NO MONTHLY FEE IN GW2!!!
Oh and for those interested!
