Why does GW Guru promote something that is against the EULA?
I notice at the top of the forum pages "advertisements" of places to BUY GW GOLD!! Why is this allowed here? It's a violation of the GW EULA.

I don't think the EULA says anything about fansites and their advertisements.
Anyway, Guru needs these advertisements to keep this site running.

Hmm, this is new isn't it?
I don't remember seeing "Buy Gold" on GURU before, and respected them for that.

I think it's also due to the fact that the adverts may be outsourced. For example, Guru has a contract with an advertsing provider, they pay Guru money to put adverts on the Guru site/forums that they have, in turn, been paid to advertise on the internet. The advertising provider probably doesn't care about the content as long as it doesn't break certain specific contract parts (eg pornographic content is no-no).
I'm just guessing at this, of course.

Gold ads are prohibited for any site wanting to wear the official "elite fansite" tag (for obvious reasons). Which is why atm there are no ads. I guess the admins have disabled them while trying to sort out how the gold ads got through, and remove them from rotation.

They've been up for a while. If I remember right, they said something about them not having control over their adverts. Either that, or it was another site I pulled up about it. Hard to keep track now.

This practice is common, which does not make it better.
As Tatile explained, Guru just says "It is not us, it is our provider! But we will tell them to remove this particular ad." So you can stay an Elite Fansite - you do not have gold ads, it is all the evil ad content provider, mostly google ads.
Requesting to remove the add in question takes some time, if it happens at all, which is also not in Guru's responsibility, as it is up to the ad provider to do this or not. They can just tell them.
So you can be totally against gold-selling ads and still have them.
The alternative is not to cooperate like this, but money is needed and in the end always wins over moral values. :>

I beleive it happened around the release of the Third Star Wars movie, a web-comic artist (and avid Star Wars fan) got some complaints from readers that there was a Google advert for illegal copies of the movie just beneath his comic (the Google advert spot). He removed the advert from his site for a while, as he was in discussion with Google about the advert.
Google provides adverts based on the content of the pages, so words such as 'gold', 'buying' and 'selling' will probably flag these gold selling adverts up to put on the site.
However, I'm sure a forum mod will have more to say on this, and more accuratly as well.

ehh, what?
This has NOTHING to do with Anet. It's Guru's own policies that are the problem...
if Guru and Inde have no problem buying gold, then all's fair.

We do our best to make sure our provider doesn't put up unacceptable ads, but as mentioned sometimes it takes time to correct things. To the best of my knowledge this is an issue any fansite using ads faces, which is why we tried other means of generating revenue for a long time.
Anyway, this has been discussed pretty extensively here and other places, so closing this thread.
