It isn't the fact that it is "taboo" it's the fact that the topic looses it's meaning the more frequently it becomes used out of context. By all means talk about rape (in-conctext) as much as you want, doesn't bother me, you might even have a wildly differing opinion on it to what I do - that's your right. But common (and mis-placed) use can render an act being "not a big deal" and that is my objection.
I'm going wildly off-topic here, but it really is a pet peeve of mine and I really wish people wouldn't use it.
As for LAN parties... well my LAN parties normally end up that way too, but then we all know each other, we all do our best to embarrass one another, and we'll all forgive each other when we sober up in the morning.
EDIT: As for like-minded people, in many ways you are right, but (points above) I can take a lot of things, dirty talk, swearing, I'll even put up with leet speak, occassionally excessive use gets irritating, but this one bothers me.

Lozza, just to be clear, the taboo I was talking about was not rape. My best friend slipped a joke related to someone who had died that day.

Ah yes, or even guildies thinking that officers must help them just because they're higher up on the guild list. Officer =/= personal henchman.

eek! That one is definately pick your audience...
I won't go into how much I think a lot of social taboos are silly here, would take wayyy too long... And would be wayyy off-topic.
Back on topic-
Alliance people asking, even begging for help doesn't bother me. What bothers me is those who refuse to reciprocate in any way, shape, or form. I don't think a one-for-one system is necessary, just that it is annoying that after going out of your way to help people reach their goals, legendary vanquisher and legendary guardian come to mind here, they are always far too busy to help you.
Another one is those that ask/beg for help, but then proceed to tell you you aren't doing a good enough job, to the point of being extremely rude and insulting.

Asking for help, then telling you to kick your heroes because "Paragons suck".

Post below me reply....Getting a 1/4 cast spell interrupted by a 1/2 second attack from Aatxes.

Thanks for getting me started on trading. I'm not even gonna touch on the lack of auction house (it's a lost cause). I hate when you are selling something and say "whisper with offer" and get 10 zillion replies asking how much. I also hate when people are vague with their requests: "WTB gold axe" and when you ask them what they need they know exactly what they want. Well, if you have such a set idea in mind, why didn't you say it so you can save people some time?! Same goes with sellers: "WTS gold axe". Well, why don't you type out its stats so you save people time whispering you just to find out it's nothing like what they need? I also hate when people try to trade for my stuff. The idea of me selling this isn't so I spend another half hour trying to sell something else, it's to make money off of what I have.
And... people who say tomb instead of tome. Whenever I see that I always ask "who's in it?".

I think there is such a thing as being too sensitive. No rape is not an amusing thing but context is everything. Context is what makes a word have meaning. For instance I could say " Man that new armor is super green." And depending on whether a majority of people thought it was cool or not green, if spread around enough , would become net slang for cool. By that same token if the armor sucked then green would become net slang for suck if spread about enough. While I do not condone rape I think it's hyperbolic usage when used in the context of describing a total and complete failure to dominate a situation is off color and crude but ultimately not that big a deal. It's just like now almost any MMO player knows what a Leeroy is. Outside of it's contextual base it has no meaning whatsoever or a completely different meaning. I also do not think that out of context usage has a desensitizing effect. The same argument has been made time and time again about graphic violence in various media but let me tell you this; the hugest media gorehound I know was in my unit back when I was in service and the first time he shot someone he puked his guts out. I believe that, barring a dissociative mental disorder, everyone knows the difference between reality and fantasy, between slang usage and the actual, horrible, deplorable crime.
That brings up another pet peeve of mine, thin-skinned people. Ok let me preface my explanation by saying that I personally don't condone abusive behavior, but I mean come on. This is a game. Do you really care that some thirteen year old kid that you will never meet form the other side of the world called you a Mexican Jew Lizard? I know I don't. My consolation is that the kid in question probably gets stuffed into lockers on a daily basis at school. So what if some foul mouthed piece of tornado bait trailer trash is spouting off racist or sexist comments? I think we can all agree that any such comments are born of nothing more than ignorance and should someone else's ignorance really have that much of an impact on you? The answer is,only if you let it.
To my mind a thin skinned person whining even wasting the time to comment on an ignorant comment is as bad as the person who made the comment in the first place. The minute you say," Hey that's offensive to me.", then you just gave the moron in question all the reason in the world that they need to keep it up. That's right you become an enabler simply by offering a well intentioned protest. So my advice? Keep your mouth shut and let it slide. Take comfort in the fact that Mr. Big Mouth wouldn't dare spout off like that to anyone in real life and if they do the likelihood of them getting beat senseless is pretty high. Remember these are the sort of people that will probably be living in their mom's basement till they are forty, either that or they will have a life altering experience and join a cult and you'll read about them after they go all Jim Jones and make front page news, or at least the ticker on CNN. However should you choose to try to be Dudley Friggin Doright then you have only your thin skinned self to blame for the proliferation of such people in game since, logically, if they didn't get a rise out of people by doing it they wouldn't be doing it.

I can't stand this one either. But if it helps you feel any better, whenever my friend and I talk about any RTS game (or anything involving turrets of any sort), he ALWAYS says turrent instead of turret.
I've got another. How about all these people I've started to notice that avoid putting in effort in an AB by just hitting space every now and then to follow their closest ally, and then when you get into combat they just stand next to you doing NOTHING!
Griefers always find a way, I suppose.

People who can't trade. If you're spamming you're looking for an item and I deign to offer you one for a few lousy platinums more than you want to pay, make me a counter-offer, don't cuss me out.
People who keep asking me for handouts for months on end after I made the colossal mistake of unloading some unwanted and unsellable items for free. Really, this makes me just want to sell my crap greens for 35 gold instead.

Major peeves:
Beggars - go out and kill something.
Spammers - shut up and play...or leave.
Bots - get a life. Heh.
Gutter mouths - ANet can't suspend you fast enough.
Very minor peeve:
Players who let their characters 'pile-on', or 'run through', other players' characters in town when there is plenty of room to avoid doing so.
Hey, don't invade my virtual personal space.

Alright... here goes... in no particular order:
#1. People saying "lol" anywhere, anywhen.
#2. People using abbreviations for single words, for group-searching or for trading. Only for skill-names are abbreviations justified, in my opinion.
#3. Wammos in Kurzick armour (15k or 1.5k).
#4. People speaking foreign languages in English Districts.
#5. Wintersday Elves (and anyone using a potion to transform into one).
#6. Party invites when I'm trying to solo-farm.
#7. Repeat party invites from the same person despite declining them before.
#8. Everyone APART from the relevant class replying when I'm trying to help newbs with equipment in early areas (e.g. I'll bring along a sword or axe to give to a warrior, announce that I'm helping a new warrior with a weapon... and get half a dozen replies from Assassins, Rangers, Monks etc saying "I'll have it" or "I have a warrior char").
#9. PuGs demanding I kick my heroes so they can get more PuGgers.
#10. PuGs (especially the aforementioned) loading up with Warriors (especially Wammos).
#11. PuGs calling for Monks when I'm playing my Heal-Rit and the party meets the 2x heal/prot requirement.
#12. PuGs stopping mid-play to go answer the telephone.
#13. PuGs stopping mid-play for extended periods of time to "go have dinner".
#14. PuGs logging out in the middle of a dungeon because they "have to go" to bed / school / anything involving their parents.
#15. PuG miscommunication of skill-bars errors (e.g. whenever my Rit ends up in a party with other Rits, I always request Skill Bar ping from them to make ABSOLUTELY sure that we don't have the same Spirits, as several times she has been in a mission and her spirits have been dying just after being put down because some other Rit was spamming the same nearby).
#16. Mhenlo's inability to stay alive for any length of time.
#17. Morgahn's reluctance to use Burning Refrain or Blazing Finale on anyone other than himself.
#18. Herohench tendency to stand in / run through geyser / jetstream traps in Nightfall and GW:EN.
#19. Herohenchies ONLY resurrecting my char mid-battle in circumstances that will get me either immediately killed or killed after just enough time to accumulate more DP.... yet NOT resurrecting my char when I am all that stands between them and total wipe.
#20. Being bodyblocked... by anything... ever.
#21. Being blocked by landscape that should be passable.
#22. AI Interrupts. Mesmer bosses are the worst as with half cast time, they can interrupt my 1/4 second cast time spells with their 1/8 sec cast time interrupts.
#23. Luxons taking over large chunks of Echovald Forest, rendering me unable to use the services there.
#24. The Crystal Desert. All of it. It is what most puts me off grinding any more of my characters through Prophecies.
#25. Groups of Stomp-Happy Giants and Stone Summit Beastmasters.
#26. Inviting people into my Guild only to have them leave a short while later.
#27. Trying to help people and getting abuse in return.
#28. Trying to help people who are totally and utterly beyond help (completely ignoring advice that is entirely for their benefit), then getting blamed for their failure.
#29. People who charge gold for miniscule services (Gating in Pre-Searing, Ferrying to Consulate Docks in Istan).
#30. PvP.
#31. PvP'ers.
#32. Rank Emotes being flashed in PvE areas.
#33. 5-man Lightbringer / Sunspear farming in Sulphurous Wastes (nothing justifies so many people wanting groups of 5... NOTHING).
#34. Bounty-givers in GW:EN failing to up my Rank when I clearly have enough kills for it.
#35. Getting Rampage Bonus (GW:EN) after killing the last of a huge mob and leaving no enemies in the area. Also includes getting the Boss Bonus immediately after killing a boss (and no others nearby).
#36. People constantly calling for the game to be made Harder when it was just FINE before (with the exception of the Elite Areas, where only Underworld, Fissure and Furnace are justified).
#37. Getting Rare-skin Weapons only to find them 19v50 (for instance) or one off max... and thus significantly less valuable (mildly less useful) than they would otherwise be.
#38. Farming for hours and getting nothing but crap... and Bows. Guild Wars seems to think I was meant to be a Ranger... despite my disliking Rangers.
#39. When I find that a quest I've already done is a really good farm and I am denied access to it.
#40. All my lockpicks breaking in GW:EN when I supposedly have 50% chance of retention... AND getting nothing but purples for my trouble.
... And YES.... there are probably more, but that is quite probably enough for now.

All the things that SotiCoto listed. Good list man. You hit the nail on the head with all your peeves. And one of my own:
I've come to terms with hero/hench AI being retarded...but what really gets to me is how they won't follow you or attack the target you call when there's a enemy ranger spirit in the way.
An example:
The Moddok Crevice mission. On Dunkoro's second suggestion. There is no way my h\h team will follow me up that ramp. And it's because of the highly dangerous spirit of toxicity planted there. I don't want to kill it because this will alert the corsairs who left it there, and then you have to fight them. After trying many times to successfully snare the 2 corsair runners on Dunky's last suggestion you generally want to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible. Avoiding as many fights as possible on your way to trying again.
I know you could just flag them and they "should" follow, but that's not the point. I find this very annoying. It happens in all areas of the game when enemy ranger spirits are where I wanna go.

Do you have them set to Attack or Defend?
I keep all mine on Defend... and they pretty much NEVER attack Spirits. Only the Minions will attack Spirits... Moddok Crevice was a walk in the park for me every time I've done it...
Admittedly though I've only done it twice: Once with my Assassin (brought Dark Prison) and once with my Elementalist (a Water Ele with Mind Freeze). Absolutely zero problems either time. Classes without snares though: beware... (and switch the Ele heroes over to Water).
