It's been stated that the whole game can be played solo, so there'd be no point.
Also stated that you can have one companion with you if you want.

The question should be. WILL THERE BE HEROS IN GW2, should makes it sound like we have a say about it.

Well, to answer that: because sometimes a players RL calls them away and/or limits how long they can play. I think my joining a PUG on, say, a night when my son is sick and might wake up and need me is RUDE. I won't join a group to go AFK unexpectedly and perhaps blow a miss or time out a bonus. There are times when I only have an hour to play etc. I may or may not have enough to do a particular thing. Heroes and henchies couldn't care less, they get paid either way A pug would be rightly annoyed as hell. There are many other examples but you get the point.
I love playing with my guildies and being social in towns etc, but there are times I really have to use h/h to avoid being an asshat afk leaver see? That's a freedom GW offers and I'd be very dissapointed if GW2 doesn't, as would many many others.

Because "online" is not synonymous with "must be played with strangers." "Online" means free content updates and holiday events, it means a dynamic player driven economy, and it means easy to play with friends when they're around. "Online" is also not GW's only feature, so why would I allow it to dictate whether or not I play the game? I enjoy GW because of the skill system, more than anything, show me an offline game that has that. I buy games that have features I don't take advantage of all the time, why should I avoid online games just because other people soloing makes you unhappy (and why DO you care, anyway?). There's no reason not to allow solo play, considering it's how most people end up playing even true MMO's the bulk of the time (look at WoW). Forcing people to play together in a game is just bad business. You can't make people play a game in a way they don't enjoy, they just won't play it at all.
I quit GW after a couple of months in '05 because of the sheer ridiculous difficulty of high end Prophecies with only henchmen. Nightfall brought me back to the game, and heroes convinced me to then go back and buy Factions and later EotN. Without heroes, Anet would never have seen a dime from me after Prophecies, and I can guarantee you I'm far from alone on that.

I'd like to see AI in the game yes, but I'm not putting my name to the above.
As other people have said, it seems that likely from information released so far that we'll be able to take one 'companion'. If that is a hero-style companion, that's enough for me. However if that is the case they'll need to scale back the mobs from what we currently get to more traditional persistant MMO fare, ie; killable in groups of two or less. If not, they're going to exclude solo players completely unless they run some sort of duo-farming build. No thanks.
Not all 'solo' players are actually playing solo anyway. I don't pug, me and my hubby bought the games so we had something we could play together as a team, which is precisely how we play in WoW as well. I still talk to people in towns, socialise etc; but I don't pug and I don't partcularly want to be forced to either. I doubt I'd play at all if that were the case.

I'd personally like it if it maxed out at one. Like the hirable mercs from Diablo 2 LOD(that you could equip with armor etc)

companions are going to be the new hero system and the game will be fully soloable as stated
the option of soloing HAS and WILL always be in mmo's since ultima online. there is not a damn thing anyone can do to change that. if you want to play with a group go ahead, if others want to solo let them
saying people should not solo because its online is flawed

I voted yes. I'd rather play with AI that have good skillbars, won't ragequit and act like an idiot then play with the horrible players of Guild Wars.
Guild Wars has always been a game where you can play with others or play solo with AI. Don't punish the people that don't want to play the game with others, because most of the others are bad. And please don't blame people being bad because nobody plays with them, there have been bad players since day 1.

I enjoy my freedom to not rely on PuGs to get most things done in the game. I don't want to see it stripped, or be forced to group just because someone wants me to act social and fail at a mission 8 times before I get it done.

This is an online game... sitting in a city talking is not very online gaming. I can go to a chatroom on AIM if I wanted to sit and talk.
Heroes take away from the "online game" experience, making it just a "game".
Besides, heroes can be stupid and energy waste and I hate to heal them!

So you think just because this is an online game people should be forced to play with others? Also, I fail to see how heroes take away the online gaming experience. ANet aren't forcing you to play with all heroes, are they? No, they aren't. You want your online gaming experience, play with others. Let others experience the game how they want.

I took that offensively with the pushy tone. :]
Anyways. Keep henchies. Atleast with Henchies you don't have to play with people. Heroes made me play Nightfall all by myself all the way till the last 3 missions. I was getting tired of pressing heal and protect for the other 20 some missions that I had to put up with. I'm starting to encounter the same thing happening in GWEN. Exactly why I am playing other games; I'm just becoming terribley bored playing by myself while others do the same.
I paid for online, not to run around with stupid fat NPCs that waste all their energy in 10 seconds.

Online game that was advertised as a game which you can play alone with AI.
Your word vs ANet's word? Not a fair fight.

meeting people while attempting to reach a goal, that is fun. meeting people while laughing at someone that thinks their form of reaching a goal is good (when it really isn't), that is fun-ny.
so personally, I think your statement, in my eyes, is completely false. Especially since by the fact that about 25% of GW players think the point of a monk is to make the red bars go up.

So because the game is online, other people should be forced to play with you. You were picked last for kickball in grade school, weren't you? Find people that enjoy playing with you if you're so hellbent on playing with people. Leave those of us that like to solo alone. Take away heroes and we still won't play with selfish "my fun is more important than your fun" individuals like yourself, we'll just play something else.

since when was I think only one that said "take away heroes". the poll says 28 others did, too.
since when was I the last one picked for kickball? I was the one picking the teams.
since when was I choosing my fun over yours? you want fun, go Henchie it.
since when was this a "FLAME REXION FEST"? If you want one, i can definitly turn on my old trolling skills I picked up from my WoW days.

Who's choice was it to play through NF/GWEN with heroes? Yours. You want to play with people, join a guild, look for pugs. You paid for an online game, then play with humans. Others paid for a game where they can enjoy playing solo, don't try to ruin it for them.

Just because you find it fun to meet new people doesn't mean everyone does. The statement is completely false to you because you two have different opinions.

Nobody said you were the only one.
It's an analogy.
You're basically saying because you don't like playing with heroes you want everyone else to not be able to play with them.
Nobody is flaming you. Go ahead and start trolling, see how long your post lasts.
