Because once in w while u meet a diamond in the rough ;p

I met my current in a 5 man FoW pug, but i was the pug, the other 4 were a guild group and they needed a bonder. We finished the run as a 5 man guild group.

So while random pugs can be terrible, they can also we very good. It seems, that people pretending they know more than in reality or when they dont listen, it becomes bad.

I may be a dinosaur dating from the beginning of GW, but I find it strange that hating on pugs is all the rage here.
Looking back on the old days, the choice between terrible players (which we all were to some extent) or even more terrible lifeless henchies was clear.
And hey, this is how I actually met my guildies. People I'm still playing with today.
Well, not literally today, as we've all pretty much quit playing.
This day and age, people hero/hench everything and think this is actually a good thing.
And I'm jumping on the perma-H/H bandwagon myself, as forming a party with real people pretty much implies Ursan Blessing now, which often makes me accidentally press Alt-F4 while forming up (couldn't help it, pressed Alt to find the Xunlai and F4 to switch to Weapon Set 4 — but now that I'm out, I don't think I'll log back in).
So how did you meet your guildies?
When I started playing I did have RL friends that already played. So I teamed up with them. Some players I brought into the game from previous games we played together. I pugged too. But alot of times, more than 50%, the pugs where overall good but always one person could ruin it for the rest. The main reason I would take H/H has always been because I sometimes have to just get up from the comp and do something. When I get back the H/H still there waiting for me patiently. This would be unfair to a pug group. I shouldn't expect anyone to halt their playing time for me.

Also I may have only 30 minute block to play. I can't waste that time forming a group to do something. I like the fact I can log on. Select 3 heros. Select my build/hero build and henchies that work good for the area in 5 minutes and have 25 minutes to do whatever I was gonna do. Otherwise it may take 15 minutes to get enough people coordinate skills.

So my core group of people I play with has always been RL friends and players I played with in other games. My Alliance on the other hand was a Guild we pugged with in the Deep. So it wasn't an ordinary pug group. These people had more experience and knowledge than the average pug.

So yeah not all pugs are trash. And I would go as far as saying that most pugs are not. It mainly is one maybe two people in that pug that are major fail for the rest of the group.

Family (3 man guild), then a guildparty i joined. Then friends again (2 man guild), joined an alliance, and soon merged the guilds (both small). Then this guild got dismissed and joined one from Guru advisement.
And currently very happy there =).

Met most of my guildies through other means (family, real life, online friends from elsewhere) and I found my alliance by posting on GWG looking for one.

This is going to be the story for a lot of people.

I personally would say there were maybe (maybe!) a handful of people that I enjoyed playing with enough that I'd want to be in a guild with them.

In Reversed Insanity [LR] I was in the Kodash Bazaar buying trade contracts at cheap values and met an officer of them, he asked me if I wanted to join, I decided what the hell, I'll try it; turned out they were great people.

Current guild iMud was one that that same officer had once been in, and when LR fell apart we went over there. Probably going to hang out with them for a while until the time comes to farm Savior of the Kurzicks, at which point I'll need a Kurzick guild until the title is done.

I was talking in an outpost. The leader liked my 'way of thinking' and he invited me.

I played another game called "Freeworlds," a Star Wars total conversion of Freelancer. There was a small group of about 100. Needless to say, in a smaller gaming community, there is a lot more comradery. I knew EVERYBODY who played that game and on vent. And I hate those Rebel Scum
Some people on that game's forums started to play GW. I started playing in their guild. From there, I met one of my best GW buddies (who has since moved to WoW, tear) and I joined a Guild he moved to after leaving the Freeworlds GW guild.

I started a guild with a friend outside the game and he seemed to find everyone, I was just there really.

I rarely invite people to a guild, and if I do there's usually a good reason for it.

I think I've recruited a grand total of two people since I started playing this game, and they've all stuck around since I've recruited them.

Now when I 'meet' people its just either through random yelling in Kamadan/elsewhere (pvers) or through other people I play with D:

I don't think anyone really says ALL PuG players suck, its just that in any random sample of 7 other people, at least one or two will be far below average. And as a player it's a real pain to babysit such players through the game when just picking up h/h and going takes a few minutes. IMO the majority of people are at least decently skilled and know a bit about the game.

Essentially on a scale of 1 to 10, heres my rating of different player groups:
Most people on my friends list: 8 to 9
Guild: 5 to 8 (not in a guild atm but I just wouldn't be in a guild with an abundance of underskilled players)
Alliance: 4 to 8
Heroes: 7
Henchies: 4
Pug Players: anywhere from -5 to 8
Myself: 10

I usually PuG most NM missions, but it's always with me as leader and with at least 2 heroes at my side that I can depend on. I can filter out the absolutely horrible players fairly well and every once in a while find someone who's good enough to get a spot on friends list.

I was in a guild long ago. Haven't been in one for over six months and don't regret it. I find it delightfully ironic to wear the MGHSORM title without a guild tag.

I love the premise of the OP -- that you only met in a pug, or RL friends, or went witha 'famous' guild. As this thread has shown, there are many ways to find good guilds, and pugging is pretty much at the bottom of the list.

I met my present guild while advertising I was LFG in this forum.

Met My Latest and current guild in a 5man FoW pug a few months ago, have to say this has to be one of the best guilds I've been in a long time.

Great temple of balthazar, there was a war going on between two guilds of the same alliance, one of them said something that I didn't approve of and so I spurted some insults in his general direction, then the guild who were 'shouting' (e-rage lul) at this guy invited me, I accepted

First guild was through a PuG, but funnily enough it was a very, very decent guild. But it broke up because leader couldn't take all the leavers....
Now i'm with [TAM], joined from guru, and it's ftw!

I have met my first guild members because I knew them from school, the second one was a transit guild that I met in RA. The next final two guilds I have met on here. I was friends with many of the SFK members before I joined the guild as I knew them from Guru. Same with SMS.

All but my latest guild was through some form of PuG. I grouped with them, enjoyed the experience and got an invite or an interview. I found my current guild advertising on guru and applied for membership. I'd played against them in GvG and HAs before and knew them to be mature and knowledgeable. In this way, their advert stuck in my mind and I was more willing to apply...so in a manner of speaking, my random (reverse PuG) contact with them was again a factor in my joining.

I dislike PuGs. I dislike them because a large percentage mistreat other players (in particular, they can be exceptionally cruel to monks and backline support). Ignorance can be taught away, a cruel temper must be squashed. Its one reason why I like the hero system so very much now. Better players have no need to PuG anymore; everything is in reach of them if they can build just half your team well (which speaks to how bad so many PuG reliant players are when they won't go without a full 8-man and still wipe in Normal Mode).

But I understand the appeal of PuGs. This is an Online Roleplay game, not something I play alone in my house. if it were the later, I probably would have stopped playing it long ago. Its the people i meet here that make me come back to it, and the pleasure of their e-company while we work towards mutual goals.

There needs to be a medium between PuGs and soloing. Guilds are the answer, and good guilds are the top of the pyramid all community driven players strive to reach. Finding people with similar interests and goals and joining forces together to achieve them is the best way to enjoy GW, imo.

The OPs question is a valid one. And the answer is probably "I PuGed with someone nice/capable/experienced and they liked what they saw." Keep going down the chain, all the way to the officers, to the guild leader himself, and they will more often than not give you the same answer: "we found each other and fit".
