Every year I look forward to leveling a new character in Dragons Arena...its a fun way to start a new character. So I buy a new slot to start a female rit...go straight to DA...low and behold...no XP...

Was the reason because now deaths don't count? If so...Im disappointed...

I do something akin to what you are talking about every year as well, and the same with snowball arenas... The fact of the matter is that now, even though it is not a viable way to get survivor because it is not really here for long enough they are trying to prevent people from just going to lvl their characters so that they can have an advantage on the nb islands etc.

I find this rather funny. Just by doing all of the 2ndary quests you have an advantage on Shing Jea Island. You're level 8 or 9 by the time you get to Cho's. You can easily get level 1 survivor before you leave the island if you do all of the beginning quests. So how does a couple of levels in an arena really affect this? You can easily attain a level or 2 on the festival quests as well; so wouldn't this be an "advantage"? I took a level 3 mesmer, ran festival quests last year, and was level 7 before I completeled my primary quests. Strange things like this really do make me chuckle.

I guess some people like to stay in those arenas, and don't want to level up.

Like i said in my post, it is just something that may have posed a problem to Anet in the past and I completely agree, getting survivor in an arena is ridiculous when there are so much easier ways of accomplishing it.

Just wanting to throw out another question in here now that survivor is on the table, is it possible to receive the survivor title on a pvp character if get to the required amount of xp without dying?

may have to test this out if nobody can give me a definitive answer...

This event was just plan biased against new characters. I couldn't even do some of the quests. I love making event themed characters but there's not even a point anymore.
