I'm pissed at the Charr for messing up my Ascalon and turning it into a massive devourer breeding ground. I'm with Gwen to put all those furry cat buggers to the sword.

Well, she did smack him around at the end.
@Ork...less trolling please. You knew exactly what was in the game before it was released; if the missing character slots, tutorial area, and storage tab are worth $35 to you and the rest of the expansion only $5, you would have done better buying 3 or 4 characters slots with your money and using 2 of 'em as mules.

I dunno why people hate Gwen so much, her attitude is kinda predictable, a 10 year old's life turned upside down and everyone close to her killed (Except maybe....the player?).
Anet were nice enough to allow Gwen to expand her friendship with the player via the tapestry shred quest.

I honestely was expecting her to like she is; I do hate her in pre-searing. If only I could ride the devourer siege and nuke her with her flute, I sure would. Grown-up Gwen is nice, predictable, but fine. GuildWars does not have much of a character development, but I wanted to see her turning from this bitter person to someone who finaly overcame all the hardship she's been through. I don't like Pyre either, but I do find it funny when he argues with Gwen and calls her mouse, and humans meat.

Personally, I enjoyed Gwen...I mean, when your family is killed before your eyes and your homeland destroyed, thats gotta leave SOME unresolved issues and leftover anger.

Gwen is pretty cool but our little mouse needs to learn that not all Charr are evil. Pyre Fierceshot is great though

I too was expecting her to be vengeful, hateful and pretty bloodthirsty. But wouldn't a warrior be a much much much fitting role for her, if that was the case?

Gwen is hot, I have no clue what you are ranting about her for. Gwen ftw <3. I'll bring her in my party even if she's useless just to stare at her.

But anyway, I hate Gwen. She's an annoying brat and tries to act tough but she's a pansy. How do you think she survived the searing? She ran away. And she's a mesmer.

A girl like that is highly overrated and not at all as fun as some people fantasize it to be.

Actually she's ~14 or 15. She's ~6 or 7 in Pre +2 years (post) +6 years (EotN) that's 14 or 15 NOT 16-18. And wrong now? I'm pretty sure it's always been wrong but w/e.

She's bloody annoying. It's a damn pity that the incompetant Charr couldn't finish her off
At least Sarah wouldn't be worrying all that time

I don't recall ever seeing Gwen's age in pre actually stated with any certainty so while you might have assumed her to be 6 or 7, I personally saw her as around 10-11 myself. I have a daughter that age, who can act very much like Gwen as a child, when not trying act all grown up. So she might well be 18 or so in EotN. Besides that, who would put a minor in charge of the Vangaurd in the captain's absence, when there would have to be actual adults around?
The point is, her age is more or less immaterial, and calling someone who may or may not be a teen themselves a "Pedo" for finding an ambiguously aged digital character attractive is well.. inappropriate. As for it ALWAYS being considered wrong, look at your history books.
In times past.. even in the early 20th century it wasn't unusual for people to be married and have their first kid by 16. I believe in fact that there are still, to this day, cultures where the kids still marry off early. So let's not try and place our western ideals on everything, thinking they are the end all, be all of what is right and wrong.
Oh, and jrk247, sorry you got to be the target here. It's not directed so much at you in particular, but just as a general statement... Just one of my pet peeves. Comes from being part of an oft maligned, religious minority that has had more than its share of western (more Christian) prejudice over the centuries. It just always bugs me when people start sounding judgmental or self-righteous and start pointing fingers at others with no real call for it.
Personally I find Gwen cute, but otherwise not so appealing
But on topic.. I don't mind the girl being feisty, angry, or so hate focussed on the Charr. I can see that attitude of hers being realistic, knowing as I do, several women who have been subjected to abuse of one sort or another and have that same attitude to one degree or another.

Guess we'll bump movie and novel critics out then...
Believe it or not, movies have a SCRIPT! Oh MAN I went there.
This is a valid point, honestly; no need to flame it. She's been changed from happy-go-lucky to psycho, and that's no understatement, as many have agreed. Mesmer fits her perfectly for that rather stuck-up feel, however...
@Bryant: Warrior would've been more fitting, however the issue remains at this: When in Pre, you have the option to take her around with you to the different trainers. When you do so, they get to see what she's like and go off of that. When you hit the Mesmer trainer, I believe, they say she has an unbelieveable amount of focus for a child of that age, and that's about where they end it.
From there, then, we deduce Gwen, the little girl with a lot of heart and tons of promise, is dead as we find her items. Of course we now know we can use those items to REALLY find out what the crap went on, and get a little more insight... but yeah.
I rather agree with the warrior comment, and if there was another trainer that said she was promising in that area and I missed it, then meh, I missed it. I suppose you could also think about it this way: Let's change rolls of the mesmer and warrior in GW:EN... Jora as a Mesmer? Something that tall and spinning around is a big "no thank you."
