I'm very bummed out that they chose to duplicate a festival hat.

I started playing only a year ago, and my first hat was the lion hat. I liked it alot, although I really wish I could've gotten a freezie crown or a pumpkin head. But I understood that that's just what you get for being in the game longer. So over the year, I really grew to like my lion hat, as it at least was a symbol of how long I'd been playing. I haven't liked any of the hats since then, and typically wear the lion mask when in outposts.

Now that they've duplicated it, they've removed my playlength status symbol and as silly as it sounds to type this... it's really not fair. I'm sure if they duplicated first year pumpkin crowns, there would be a much bigger reaction from players. But since it's a newer hat, I'm sure very few people will be vocal about it. Just imagine that whatever you consider to be your "leet" hat got duplicated, and I'm sure you'd agree this was a bad decision.

They either shouldn't have duplicate hats, or if they actually don't care about status (like this decision implies) they should just give out a credit to pick whichever hat you'd like.

It's not the first to be given outside the event, but it's the first to be given in the same event a year later.

They should ake all the hats available any year, then, in collectors or something.

Gaile said that it is tradition to have lion masks for the Canthan New Years (she might also have said something about Chinese New Years, but i forgot... it was 12...).

Personally i would have liked a new hat. I dont see a reason for this duplicate. but cant argue with tradition can we??

Guild Wars mantra right there. :P When the dev team doesn't want to make new content, recycle like crazy and blame it on the lore. That said, I don't really care. It's a shame that they reused last year's mask, and I would've liked a new one, but they're starting to rub me the same way as minis. There are already a crapton of masks in the game and I'd kind of prefer something else.

You people will QQ over anything. I would bet Mr. Beefy, just like most of us, will wear his hat for about... 12 more hours? Then turn it into the festival hat maker and delete it. Maybe it'll go onto a mule. But see regular use?

Doubt it.

And perhaps, in a year or so at the annual QQ'ing gathering known as events, he'll craft it again for 10 gold, and wear it around to show nubs how "leet" his hat is.

The beginning of the end for GW was the announcement of GW2. This is confirmation of the end - not enough developers working on GW.

BTW, this is not a threat, just a fact: This event has been sour for me, and has left me in a malaise. My enthusiasm for GW is gone, and it has killed my anticipation of GW2.

And? So I'm wrong that you'll keep wearing your hat, but the crux of the matter is that you don't want somebody else to have the same hat as you.

Yes, it's a duplicate. The designers are busy. I don't see why it matters anyway, these festival hats are useless.

Anyways, the QQ bashing has already begun, and more people are going to troll and flame. Closed.
