My suggestions:
#1 DON'T listen to what the players want, because they're really telling you their personal pet peeves about Guild Wars *1*, which hopefully is a completely different game than Guild Wars *2*. Start with clean slate!
#2 No, seriouly, DON'T listen to the players! Especially not top PvP guilds or ultra-rich PvE farmers; you can't do worse than listening to those.
#3 OK, fine, if you absolutely have to listen to the players, then listen to me:
3a: DON'T base GW2 on fixed skill bars. Paper-Rock-Scissors as a game model is boring, even when masqueraded as Magic The Gathering or Guild Wars-with-fixed-skillbars.
3b: DON'T assume that PvE players are idiots just because they don't prefer killing other players. "Skills" like Ursan Blessing are boring and insulting. Not kidding.
3c: DO push the envelope. Good graphics, good sound, good mob AI - go for it. Hire real writers for the plots/quests, real actors for the voice-overs. Production values do matter.
