I was Lisa Super Beetle, Placebo told me to message you if I had any other questions but everything Placebo told me plus all of my own tricks made it quite simple to have a perfect race every time and lead from the start every time. But the strategy you are saying, I found I had trouble both ways with it.
When I didn't touch anyone at the start, I tended to get KD'd at the bottom of the ramp in the cave, because people didn't want me to escape. If I didn't use the shell at the CP, they used it on me up there instead as I started down the ramp.
On the other hand, when I used my lunge or KD on second place right after the first powerup - I was able to create a KD fest of rams for places 2nd and worst. Once I clustered 2nd place, they would all start to chain KD everyone. This allowed me a HUGE lead and able to just race under my own power but if somebody got a super beetle, lucky, or knew how to race, once they got in range of me on the spiral they would do everything possible to screw up the score even if they had absolutely no chance of winning.
Double edged sword IMO, not only did you have to get lucky with boxes to place in the top 100 you had to get lucky with other player's powerups and judge your shells really well.
Either way, I am unhappy that it took me about 400 races to learn all the techniques and I was left with around 100 to try for the high scores. I was over 472 quite a few times, but couldn't quite get past my record of 475,750 (my 3 chances or so with echo super I was interferred with by other players near the spiral area and they had a super too), my record only happened with a single super, if I had gained echo or another super from the powerup in the water there wouldn't have been any doubt in my mind that would have been a 480 score.

Gratz to all who won them; it takes some skill...
Although I'm suspicious since I had a whisper from 2 or 3 people asking "Wanna help me rig a race so I can get top 100?"
Other than that, which I'd guess isn't ALL of you, gj

Yes, I've commented on this before. If you get a KD from the first box, which is not your preference (first box echo/2nd box Super is ideal, but rare), the thing to do is to try to stack the other beetles up in the chokepoint by the first box. The extra few seconds of space is worth the hate.

I generally hold my shield out of the gate in order to delay dash. I call this the "guess the noob Ram" game, where I have to predict precisely where on the downhill slope some idiot noob is going to waste his Ram in a misguided effort to knock people down. I've gotten fairly good at this through sheer volume of runs; if you watch your radar, it's usually pretty easy to guess when it's going to get cooked off.
If I succeed at this, I can save my second shield and wait until the second-place player runs over the first box to shield, which generally happens at around 28 seconds. This gives me perma-shield through 36 seconds, and if someone is going to try to knock me down, they almost always have attempted it by then.

That's just abysmally bad luck. The only thing that I can tell you is to use your shield in response to 2nd place running over the box right before the 5th checkpoint. If they get a blast, they will almost always use it immediately.
Still, if someone else caught a super all 3 times...that's just very poor luck.

Could it be that ekelon blacked the names in his/her screen shot because they all have the same guild tag? If they did I think that would prove the sync theory.

OR now get this one because it doesnt involve an evil guild rigging races for Miniatures - Perhaps he blacked them out because leaving them in would cause people from this very thread to PM them with "CHEATER" every 5 mins.
Just a thought.

Syncing DID happen. Gues what, NOONE in top 100 will admit it. I did it once, just to proof myself and my guildies it could be done.
We did it in between Active and Dead-hour. (1-3 AM GMT +1)
As I said before, it's not some theory, that is NOT worth investing the time in... In less then 3 tries, we got a team of 3 (or 4) guildies together.
It's not some "conspiracy", it's a fact, and it's reality. I myself became victim of 3 people that chain-kd'ed me, whilst one random guy just jumped out in front. I typed in ALL chat: WTF? -None of them replied...
The first guy finishes with a score of 470+K, there was NO second... (We barely reached the Spiral)
Random PvE-nubs that had NO clue what they were doing? Yeah right, and it really was Chuck Norris crashing the AB servers yesterday o.0

Well maybe syncing did happen, big deal. It didn't bother me and my times, and I had more fun racing random opponents anyway.

I'm not going to lie. I want a mini Rollerbeetle bad, but I wasn't willing to race for it this weekend nor am I willing to farm up the $$$ to buy it (need the $$$ for titles atm anyways). Oh well. Unless ANet decides to slash the prices of minis like they did all of the old valuable weapon/item skins (with added supply and access), I guess I'm SOL. I'm fine with that, I guess.
Congrats to all the winners and anyone else who actually owns a beetle. Hopefully for the Year 3 minis ANet adds a common beetle or something for all of the rest of us to get.

Same, it's not fun with your Guildies "Quarterbacking" you. (Not a big Football fan, but the guys that protect the "runner" )
I just find it so sad when people try to come off smart saying: "Dude, you're a retarded kid. You really think these big conspiracies happen?"
Because you make these people feel like they are "wrong". Thus growing a grudge against PvE noobs for camping them since the beginning of the match. Well I just like them to know they ARN'T wrong, stuff like that really happened.

Congrats to all those who won a rollerbeetle, must have been fun rolling around as a gigantic one (I can't race to save my life).
Next year though, it would be amusing to see what would happen if (a) there was no racing or (b) no prizes were given out. No chances of people cheating/hacking the game then
Edit: Clarification - I'm not calling the winners cheaters or hackers here, I'm directing something at those who are: would you like it if there was no racing? General principle: if the loud people can't play nice with the people who are good at the game, and won't leave them alone, no-one gets to play. This also means the toys won't be broken

I have been trying my best to find out exactly how to time things. I never even learned the double ram thing until someone posted. So I guess I need to learn more for next year in hopes that I can reach the very bottom and stay on there heh.
I know that anything is possible, but sometimes I just can't believe keeping up the speed heh.

I would say gratz but I hardly see grinding a retarded beetle race for three days so that you can oust one of the hackers with 14 top 100 spots off the chart so that you can get an ugly mini-pet a congratulatory event.

Unfair advantage? No. It's more like a fair advantage. We know the course very well. How do you think I'm such a good Hero Battler? Do I have some kind of unfair advantage? NO. Watch observer mode, I don't cheat in Hero Battles and I'm ranked pretty high up there. Why I am so good? Think about it.

You're good, however, I would LOVE to face you NOT playing sin. You'dd have a pretty tough ride against me (R50) HB isn't rly a good measurement of skill. HB means you can do a one dimensional thing (Spaming Guardian as I do, or spamming left to right as sins do) combined with Micro and flagging. Both of which in, imo, are VERY easy, because of the simplicity of HB bars. (I blame bad AI for that one)

I ran into about 3 groups that were obviously part of an alliance or friends that were linebacking for somebody. I just let it go because that was only a few races out of the hundreds that weren't fixed. It happens.

These things do happen by random chance. I saw the odd match here and there with two copies of the same tag. I WAS that match once myself (guildie was on Vent with me at the time, too.)
Also had one match where I ran into Placebo and another top 100 player I know - forget which it was that match. Had a few other matches with just one other player I knew, as well. But given the sheer volume of matches I played (I ended up with something upwards of 3000 tokens, if that helps), those things just happen.
Rollerbeetle is a numbers racket if you know what you're doing - given skill, if you make enough runs, eventually you get a run with sufficient luck to post a top time. Like anything luck-based, acquiring luck runs in streaks due to random chance.

If you've ever seen me play. I've played almost every single profession (minus the paragon). And they've worked pretty well too.

Yea I've been linebacked before in rollerbeetles (not even guildies, they just linebacked me cuz they all happened to recognized me)... Not fun.
