Lol all these people whining about people getting 'run', firstly it makes no difference to your game experience whatsoever, secondly when you have completed a chapter numerous times then to me it makes sense to get a run as it tends to do away with the grind.
I remember seeing a level 2 in Droks, back in the day had to chuckle , besides, running, although not intended in the game, provides a service, if you dont want to use it then dont. But do not criticise others who do use runners for whatever reason.

Of all the complaints I have heard about running PvP is a new one on me - PvP characters pretty much make running worthless in the PvP arenas since you can not get anything other than max level, max armor, and max damage weapons and can do so instantly with no runners whatsoever.
While I generally agree that I sometimes wonder how some PvE characters make it far enough to get there I don't see some mythical total stoppage of running having any effect on said "retards" making it there - especially considering that with minutes of your very first login you can have a max level, max armor, and max weapon damage PvP character in RA (do you have to complete the tutorial stuff now? If not then within one minute instead of minutes).

It really is that simple - bypassing pointless tasks to achieve a goal. It's the same reason we prefer e-mail to snail mail these days. It's faster and more efficient.

This is normally the point where someone says "What if I'm playing in a PUG in one of the final missions with a person who got runs and has no idea of how to use their skills. That does affect my game."
Meh. If you get runs on your first character, dumb. If you get runs on your 4th, who cares?

The final mission in both Factions and Nightfall are, or once were, possible to be run by someone.
Rarely do I see people in the Maguuma Jungle. It gets rather annoying seeing Level 2-6 players with elite armor on and expect people in Iron Mines of Moladune to accept them into groups. I'm sure some have noticed people beating one of the campaigns and not having a clue who Prince Rurik, Master Togo, Mhenlo, Kormir or Gwen are.
Ever wonder what would happen if it was made so people couldn't get runs through Snake Dance?

Personally I allways prefered a run to Sanctum Kay. You need the desert if you want to get the elite skills and 15 attribute quest.
Although characters from other campaigns don't need the attributes quests and skills can be gotten with tomes...
I did run people to droknar's in the past. Fastest way to make cash at the time. I usually made sure they knew what was going on and warned people that didn't that they were missing half the story.

Have you ever used tomes? be then eltie tomes or normal.
same thing, you shoudl have that skill and be that level/ be in wrong continant.
Your not forced to paly with any low levels, no one is.
but if somone wants to get a run through the game they have every right to.
Some may have work, others may have a hard time and some jsut don't want to.
First time chars shouldn't really get runs tho, they miss the story, the exp. and the effect is gone when its done by somone else, but if they have it completed on another char they shouldn't have to do the work again if they dont want to

I don't have a problem with people that want runs. As many have already pointed out, there are lots of legitimate reasons for a player wanting a run.
What I do have a problem with are the little kiddies that expect people to run them everywhere thru out the entire game when they have never completed any of it on their own. You know the type. Every guild has one.
"Wah!!! Someone come help me. This is too hard!!!"
"I need a runner to droks, NOW!!!"
"I need a power leveler NOW!!!"
kiddie: "How do you earn money in this game"
guildie: "Killing hydras in the desert earns me decent money"
kiddie: "Where is the desert?"
guildie2: "You have to beat Sanctum Cay to get to the desert"
kiddie: "Someone run me to Santom Kay Free"
kiddie: "Someone run me to Santom Kay Free"
kiddie: "Someone run me to Santom Kay Free"
kiddie: "come on guys!! I need a run!!!!!!"

Several reasons I accept a run
1: I've already done the games more than once - now I just want to play my favorite parts and skip the boring ones.
2: Found a new farming build that requires primary I don't have in the place where I need it. I don't want to play all the way through the game just to try out and tweak a farming build.
3: a festival is coming up and I want temp characters on my mule account to be in lions arch to take part without having to play through to get there.
4: Have a character I want to achieve survivor with and the easiest place to level is GWEN - a run is the quickest way to get there.
5: frankly sometimes it's nice to take a run, die immediately, target the runner and get and opportunity to look at the scenery and talk to others in a groups without having to concentrate on fighting.
6: Other than runs I never never pug so my getting run isn't going affect anyone but me.

Its a simple answer that seems to have to be answered every week in a different thread:
Once you have done an area so many times on different chars, your not always going to want to do it again, in those cases get a run.

Sums me pretty much... although I don't eat at McDonald's, lol (EW). I'm tired of having to play the same storyline over and over again with each of my characters... I'm on my 10th. Sure not all of them have beaten each game, but I've done and redone the missions so much in nearly 3 years that I just have enough of questing (which I absolutely hate). I'm much more efficient now than I was when I started though - it DID gain me experience, and I'm thankful I did it on a couple characters. 6 of my chars have made it though all 3 campaigns, my rit and my sin have made it through Factions, while my paragon and mesmer are progressing slowly through NF and Factions.
It just gets boring, character after character, to have the same storyline, same development... that I personally feel, after my 25th time in Sanctum Cay (helping guildies, masters, attempts in HM, exploring it, MORE attempts in HM to help someone) I can skip it. I KNOW what's coming after Sanctum Cay and I KNOW the mission.
So with my hatred of questing and my love for armor, yes, I tend to skip some stuff. I do play to get to know how to play my character, however. In Factions and NF, I haven't skipped a thing. When I'll decide to beat Prophecies (my mesmer is a non-serious survivor but I don't wanna farm for it) I'll start at Ice Caves, will eventually finish the game THEN backtrack on the missions I've skipped because I'm tired of doing them when I get to them because I need it to get to my next place. I want to do them when I can, unlike in Factions or NF I have to play through to get to. It would be the same in Prophecies if I couldn't skip it, I'd deal with it.

My viewpoint seems to be bit different to majority of people in here. So many of you say that it's boring to do everything all over again and you just run/get runned to end so you can do "the profitable" places of game, but isn't that bit boring to do only couple of places again and again? For me it would become very, very boring just to do DoA, Duncan etc all day long.
My own personal method of not getting bored is to do it all, as opposing to run throught it. Only place I ever run to is from LA to Ascalon with my non-Tyrian characters so I can start Tyria from the beginning. I do every single side quest with all my characters, scouting and masters from missions. Not bored yet and I find it much more rewarding than continuos repeating of high-end stuff (in game experience terms, not necessarily money terms). But again, this only my view of things.
I don't mind if people runs or uses running services, but in my opinion they steal themselves big part of game that would be fun to do, even for the 4th, 5th, many-th time, istead of just grinding throught high-end areas/missions all over again (yes, I do call that more of a grind than going through Maguuma again by storyline).

I beat all 3 chapters as well as GWEN, haven't once watched a whole cutscene?
Why? Why bother...I want to finish the game. But I do know the main people, just not hardcore storyline.

One quote commonly spoken on some other forums I frequent:
Quote:
"How does what the other guy does to his savegame affect your savegame in any way?"
|
I believe it applies here. If they want runners, let them have runners. If you want to enjoy the storyline, go ahead. Guild Wars caters to both groups. You aren't forced to follow the storyline every time, neither are you forced to skip everything.
The first couple times I usually like to play through the storyline and see what happens, the times after that I just get the armor and farming spots. $.$
Speaking of that I really need to get my monk to DoA...

Black Angel please read this post. and anyone else that is confused about why people skip areas.
most people have farming chars and the chars they play the game with.(it would seem some people can not accept this.)
my main goes all over does everything and anything, my monk on the other hand is a farmer, same for my necro, my ele does eveything same for my derv, it all depends on what you made the char for.
The point you made about it getting lame or old is very true which is why once I get bored with the farming spot or what not I change chars and do something else, same when pve gets old I pvp.
I do not think you thought of everything (do you think everyone has 1 char and 1 char only?) you must take into account that most people have all 3 games which is 8 char slots, some have the SE/CE editions of the games so they have 10 slots. so the statment that they are only hurting themselves is just a limited view of the big picture. if I want to do the ROF missions again I do them with my main char or one of my backup mains, if I want to farm I will use the farming chars or even farm with my main.
