I have known some 14-15 year olds who have acted very mature and polite and at the same time known a lot of "grown-ups" who act boorishly and rudely all the time. So it's not usually about the age, it's about the person.

Age has much less to do with it than maturity and learning ability.

I'd like most of the people that play this game to not be like the gems you find in Shing Jea Monastery (or even Lion's Arch or Kamadan) at night.

But on the flip side, many older players aren't able to learn the game as well as a younger person would. Now, if they enjoy the game, more power to them, but if they get frustrated with it early on, then what's the point?

If you turn around and say that the younger person, who would understand how the game works quickly and love playing it isn't allowed to play, where's the fairness in that?

I think the EULA age of 13 is good. For average maturity levels most players should be 16 or older to play, but there's always going to be the 15, 14, and 13 year olds who can act like a human being, while there will be 16+ year olds who cannot.

Such is life.

I have no idea what happened to my post in this thread... but I will state it again.

8 Year olds are just not mature. Not only are they still children, but they are young children. 8 year olds will never be mature, no matter how mature acting they are. Maturity takes some form of age. I have nothing against 8 year olds, but they just cannot be mature.

13 year olds are worse then 8 year olds. They have hormone issues, and think that swearing is the most amazing thing ever. Piss off a 13-15 year old, and watch the foul language on your screen. I told some guy that the green he wanted to buy was not popular, and very few people farmed it, so it would be faster for him to buy the same skin and mod it. He belted out every single swear on the planet, about 3x. I actually reported him for language, because while swearing isn't super bad when it is just one or two words once in a long while, what he did was like... just plain gross.

Maturity is based not just on age, but experience (wisdom). I hang out with older people (have since I was 16). It is just how some people are wired. Although, I get very childish when I am drunk. I would rather hang out with the 30 year old crowd then the 20 somethings (I am 21).

But 8 year olds? No, they are not mature and never will be. Some may be very well behaved and act older, but they are not mature in any sense of the word. 13, still a stretch. 15+ can have some form of maturity, but maturity comes with responsibility. High school =/= responsibility.

QFT. What I would do to be that age again...

Life was so easy, even though I didn't think it at the time. The real world, with work and bills and more work and one problem after another. If it's not the car, it's the boiler. If it's not that, it's Virgin screwing up again etc etc etc.

And that's without all the nerfs to GW or having to listen to some kid PVP biatch tell me how the reason I don't like pvp is because someone killed me in a match...

there shoudlnt be an age requirement. rather, i would prefer an iq test. at least it doesnt exclude polite, young kids.

i know personally when i was ~15 many people thought i was 19 or older. there should be no age limit. if you don't like someone, don't talk to them.

Based on content, we pay people to provide ratings for us. That's why the rating is 13+

There isn't an age restriction when joining a community of players. But everyone is bound by the EULA, so if you break it you're out.

Actually, its the young people who have much more right to "play a game". When I say "young" I mean those in their teens. This is their element and their domain. Though they sometimes bring their "inexperience", they bring fun in the game nevertheless as what any game should be.

The "older folks" seem to take the games too seriously. While they bring their "experiences", we also seem to carry the baggages.

My take.

Complete and total BS. As an 'older person' I play the game to have fun, and I do have fun. I don't care if you are 8 or 80, as long as we have fun together and respect each other. My 'baggage' is dropped at the door when I enter my room to play games and have fun.

I think people should just do what they want when it comes to games. That simple really.

i'm 12.

I know 17 yrs olds and a few 40 yrs olds.

they all thought I was in my 30's until they heard my voice in vent.

there should be no age requiement in Gw. as long as you are mature and have an ignore list, you'll be fine.

/signed as a ridiculous thread.

Age means nothing. I have known many adults to generalize younger generations as immature, while I've seen adults that act like downright two year olds throwing temper tantraums and talkin lik dis. On the other hand, I know younger people that claim to be mature, and sometimes are, but they end up at the same spot as the immature adults. All in all, age isn't a factor you can gauge someone on.

Musei, I'd assume that you are capable of paying for internet and electricity?

As many have said in this thread age is not a definitive guideline, but just like rank is not an absolute guide as to how an individual may perform in pvp, age is a starting point.

It is true that I have known some very mature "younger" players and I would not hesitate grouping with such. It is also true that I have known some very immature "older" players and would prefer to avoid such when possible. However if /age where the age of the player rather than the character and I had to choose between a player <18 and a player >18 without reference to anything else I would go for the older player.

Having said that the topic is about how old is old enough, well it's rated 13+ I believe - and given there is no swearing (in gameplay itself) or ridiculous amount of violence, I think the rating is well placed. There are filters in place to help those who don't want to put up with foul language, and support is generally helpful in dealing with matters of players "swearing" excessively around the filters.

Yes I wish all players were mature and nice and all, but I'm well aware of the reality, and all that can be done is to avoid the bad apples and get on with playing the game.

Monty, I'm with you. Im in the "old" bracket.

The point I was making, young people treat games "more loosely" as than most older ones. No need to get, err, tight about it.

My take.

Same comment, Stockholm.

when did age measure someone's maturity?
heck a 13 year old boy could even be as mature or even more mature than half of all players playing GW.

age does not matter in videogames.

for those sarcastic flamers, i mean 8 yo - 100+ yo.

IMO I really don't think age matters here. All of my really good IG friends have been from the 12-30+ range and they all seem to be quite good players and polite in many situations.

I remember being in a guild with some guys that were in their low 30s and I remember being on vent with them... Oh man I've never seen someone be so serious about PvP. Imagine the BOOM HEADSHOT! guy, except that there are 4 or so of them screaming in vent, I'm NOT kidding.

Point being is that when it comes to maturity, no matter the age, some people are just... Stunted...

Grim, I actually disagree with you.
I'm "old", I game for fun. The people I see getting uptight about not "winning" are mostly the "young" people. I had a classic case just the other day going into a normal mode mission, my first pug in a little while. The team leader was a college student, bossy like crazy, and using the line:
"omgz we're never going to win the mission with a build like that"
to just about everyone who pinged their build.

Everyone I've met over the age of 25 is generally relaxed and nice to play with. There are some very notable exceptions. Any "baggage" brought in with us is "baggage" from our real lives and we talk to friends and guildies in our non-play time about it because talking happens to be theraputic.

Your statement is akin to saying only those who remembered and played the very first nintendo console have a right to play the Wii.
