GW1 features i WANT in GW2:

*The fact that you just can't waste a character by a wrong decision in development

*Ability to meet in game and play with just anyone that plays the game - no separate servers/shards (I'm very interested in how will they solve this - as we know there will be separate 'worlds' gaining benefits in world vs world battles)

*Great balanced e-sport like PvP - this time hope for it being much bigger than in GW1 (tournaments, prizes, leagues, bigger prizes...)

*Business model - pay only for huge content packages, no micropayments for buying ingame advantages

GW1 features i DON'T want in GW2:

*Instanced explorable areas - good to have them gone

*Instanced zones (like dungeons) being always exactly the same - Randomization and unpredictability = much greater replayablility

*Invisible walls and 2D environment with all the stupidity of stepping into a trap put below it while walking above, and no possibility of jumping down that bridge.

*No character development after hitting max level and getting max gear (uber easy) - I want exactly the opposite - Infinite character development at a flat power level curve, so even after years of playing there's still something to improve but new players don't get disadvantaged.

*Item system designed for balanced PvP being extremelly dull in PvE:
-supereasily obtainable Max/perfect items - you can't hope for getting something better when you got max,
-very small variety of items (ie. two-handed swords, polearms, dual-weilding, jewellery like rings, bracelets, necklaces etc. would be cool)
-small number and variety of mods (like +15^50 good, other options just worse)
-fully moddable items (yuk) which removed all the fun of hunting for cool rare stuff - nothing and rare cool about something which can be easily replicated
Instead I'd absolutely love an item system which is:
-friendly and rewarding for all kinds of players, casual and hardcore, collectors and min/max'ers - it shouldn't be an gear-based game with forced grind to get the power but a fun experience of getting cool stuff and improving your character.
-no such thing as max stats but a flat power level curve instead so you can always hope for finding something better,
-no clearly visible tiers of gear so no discrimination happens,
-greens being the reasonably obtainable but not farmable, fixed stats items with unique-epic feeling to them, rewarding, good, but not the best possible.
-gold items having multiple inherent mods so you rarely see something like a 'strictly better' item or an exact copy of an item. Moddability should only help adjust the item to work with certain builds or playstyles, possibility of building a perfect item from cheap components ruins all the fun.

Want:

*All the 10 professions to stay
-GW has made an amazing cast of both classic and original professions, it'd be a shame to just let all that lore/creativity go to waste. I am how ever, not in favor of NEW professions just yet. GW still has many more opportunities such as. If you role a W/N you then become a "Death Knight", if you role a W/Mo you become a "Paladin", if you role a R/A you become a "Rogue". So on and so forth, it would add more depth and give the sense of more professions but at the same time, keep it to the basic 10. How ever there shouldn't just be a profession title change, exclusive skills and armor for the combo of professions of your choice should be available as well.
*Cutscenes for Missions

Do Not Wants:

* Mandatory grind.
* Nerfed to useless skills
* Repetitive PvE content
* Bad Storylines
* Instanced only world
- Some aspects of it I want to be persistent, towns and guild halls should be instanced. Dungeons should also be instanced, as well as the tutorial areas. How ever, general leveling areas and what not should be a free roaming world in which you could explore till your heart's content. (Oblivion's enviroment is a great example of a world I have envisioned)
* PvP and PvE split
- I'd like certain areas of the game to be PvP hot zones (enter at your own risk) that would be persistent, you could walk in and kill and leave when you've had your fill. Player killing outside of these zones should be possible if conditions are met (in a duel, etc etc..). Just like how the hardcore PvE would get instanced dungeons. The hardcore PvP would get instanced things like Guild Battles, and everything we have now.
* A not immersive, Roleplaying discouraging world.
- Please for the love of god let me walk into a pub and sit down at a table and drink a pint of beer! I'd love to see indoor areas to buildings (as many as possible). Being able to sit on benches, seats, stools. Lean on walls and things like that (See Granado Espada for good emote's). Also please no GW:EN "slip ups", all weapon/armor art should be as original as possible and look damn good too, we know Anet can do it, so do it! Also, a larger choice of options when creating your character. Straight down to the lips nose eyebrows ears and everything. (See Mass Effect for a great create a character system)

I liked Granado's pose system too.
And more face options would be nice, so long as it's not too taxing on the graphics department.
Like in Vanguard and EQ2 you can tweak all the things on your face, but I imagine it's part of why the game chugs so much when people are around.

How about they keep shadow stepping, but add nuances to things to impede it.
Like you can't shadowstep through wards or wells.
I don't know! I think it would be interesting.
Shadow stepping is neat, but it needs something to counter it.

I am sure i am gonna get flamed for my responses

WANTS

1. Higher level cap. Its iffy, but i would prefer to be able to improve on my character past lvl 20. I am not talking about leveling up and not getting anymore stats, i am talking about leveling up and continueing to get stats.

2. Rare and more rare items and skins. I know its a casual game and supposed to be, but show some love for people who want to play hardcore.

3. Very diverse customazation. From facial features, hair, height, build, skin color, starting armor. As well as ingame armors, more than just 2-3 elite armors.

4. Seperation of PvE and PvP skills. NO MORE NERFS! NO MORE NERFS! NO MORE NERFS!

5. Auction House!!

6. Lots of End Game Content, Dungeons, activities, ect...

DONT WANTS

1. A game thats beatable in 6-10 hours.

2. Reskinned Dungeons, Reskinned Armors, Reskinned Weapons

It's a last ditch, probably futile attempt to change the direction of development. You're going to see that until release, at which point there'll be constant complaining to get the game changed. People are never happy with what they have in an online game, because in an online game things can always be changed. Sometimes that dissatisfaction is valid, of course (I think dissatisfaction with the announced direction of GW2 development is all kinds of valid personally), but regardless the rule holds.

Wants:

1. Soloability. Requires: (a) mob scaling in instances and (b) all classes able to kill/ survive on their own.

2. Customizable or dropped armor variations.

3. Auction house.

4. Keeping skill over time game play. There are multiple ways to provide high or no level caps without taking this away.

5. A decent selection of appearances for all playable races.

6. A bigger inventory, or a better inventory management system.

7. Free core game element upgrades.

8. Better skill animations/ sounds.

9. No Monthly Fee.

10. More control over character customization, including (a) eye color and (b) girth as well as height.

11. Great storyline with involving, interesting NPCs. Clear motivations for the antagonist (even if they are hidden at first). A storyline that delves further into the nature of GW's gods, ancient races, and/or realms beyond the Mists.

Don't Want:

1. Titles.

2. Level grind replacing skill.

3. Monthly Fees.

4. Non-instanced areas that encourage (a) camping, (b) PKing, (c) kill stealing.

5. Gates. Open the world up and leave it open.

Want:

multi-class characters: ex- can reroll as a pure monk or pure warrior withing minutes, no need to have 2+ characters to play different classes.
would be good for a.net aswell as they save server space?
new armor system. level requirement, can be traded, bosses can drop few unique armor pieces players can use.
titles, titles and more titles, no real effect on gameplay so kids wont cry.
AUCTION HOUSE.

Dont Want:

kids crying about titles being bad.
kids pretending to be entitled to have the ultimate rare skin weapon playing 1hour a week crying "BUAHAHAHA THEY TOLD ME SKILL > TIME"
kids crying like "hey that fellblade has a merchant value of 332gp u cannot sell for more. i give u 332gp that's the correct price. 100k? u nooob loooser"
mandatory storyline to be followed, gates.
to be forced to waste hour spamming WTS in towns to get rid of my drops.

Again, we are just going to have to disagree on this, Lone. The time to discuss what you want for a game in development is ... er ... when it's in development perhaps?

Consider this from Jeff Strain in 2004 prior to the release of Guild Wars:

Quote:
Yes, the focus of development certainly expanded after our E3 for Everyone Event. In response to player feedback we decided to put more emphasis on the single-player aspects of the game.
(2004 Interview)

Or this, from a more recent Jeff Strain address:

Quote:
Don't underestimate the importance of solo play! Sometimes your friends aren't online, sometimes you want to kill 30 minutes while everyone groups together, and sometimes you just don't want to go to committee on every damn decision. The quality of the solo play experience is just as important to the success of an MMO as the quality of the multiplayer experience. A few months before the release of Guild Wars we added computer-controlled henchmen to the game as a way to pad out your party when your friends weren't around. Later we enhanced this feature and introduced computer-controlled Heroes, which gave you control over their actions and more fully supported the notion of playing the game entirely on your own. While it may seem counterintuitive to add features that support the solo play experience into an MMO, we believe that Guild Wars would not have been as successful had we not added these features.
(How to Create a Successful MMO)

I think you are underestimating ArenaNet by assuming that all of the features of GW2 are somehow set in stone. One of the reasons ArenaNet succeeds is by listening to -- and making adjustments -- based on player feedback, opinions, and suggestions. They can't please everyone in every way, obviously, but I really think they do listen.

Cool. I did not know they added henchmen that late in development.
Most developers wouldn't do something like that! They'd release the game and wait to see first.
I'm glad they added henchmen then. And changed the respecing of attributes and the way spirits work and the way elites are capped. Oiy, the game would have been a headache if those things were still around.

Wantz:
1: I would like the ability to be able to craft my individual item(Armor, Weapons,etc..). I would enjoy the ability to be able to compete in creating better damage in the game and better armor. By this, we can all have our ways in possibly gaining victory more or less.
2: The game needs more than 8 skills on the skillbar. 8 isnt enough to satisy me. I don't mean by over-powering the whole profession criteria but it needs some boost in it's combat areas to make it more fun and vigile.
3: Each race should have diferent attributes. Let's say a Charr would be able to have more Strength and possibly have less Defense than other races. By this, the race then differs from other races and can combine with professions properly. So, we can say a Charr would most likely be better at being a Warrior.

Dontz Wantz:

1: Basically I don't enjoy experiencing the Zone ability. I do not enjoy waiting every once in a while to go through some portal which take a couple of seconds to do so. It disrupts my hunts and possibly causes lag. Other than that I would still love to see the Travel ability still in GW2.
2: The Chat Text and filter is seriously bad in GW. I seem to dislike it by 100%. Once GW2 is launched, I would like to see a new style in chat.
