Player Killing in GW PvE
Le gusta รณ no le gusta?
Would you like to see it in present or future GW games? Why or why not? Please feel free to share any experiences in other games with or without a PK system. I'll start the ball rolling...
Pros:
Adds another element to the mostly predictable and boring environment
Another way to settle disputes over quests, spawns, discussions, epeen, and other trivial matters
A way to keep griefers in check
Cons:
Adds another element to game play that will no doubt need attention
Provides another easy way to grief
Players will hate having farmers spawn camp
Farmers will hate being interferred with
May keep some players from getting more involved in structured forms of PvP or turn them away from PvP in general
================================================== ========
Here's one of my favorite moments from a game called Priston Tale, around 2002
Random person: party or ks [kill steal]
Random person: ks 24/24
(yea, 24 days a week, that's how hardcore he was)
Group: sry full
He tried to ks of course but one person can only do so much against a full party so eventually he gave up and went elsewhere. Now there was no PK in that game at the time but when situations like that occurred on a 1v1 basis it usually lead to attempted kill stealing, mob luring by both players, healing mobs etc until someone died or died then respawned then died again. This was actually not much of a problem in my experience, outside of the few personal feuds (more often over race than items) because other players in the area would usually join up and help out the player(s) being wronged. Would that happen in GW with the current playerbase?
On the other hand, there was another game with a decent PK system and while minding my own business, I got a boss to spawn. After a tough fight two other players came out of no where and started attacking me. Still charged from the boss duel, I managed to cut one down while he messed up his combo and after a short exchange, the other soon ran off, leaving his friend facedown in the dirt. In contrast to the regular grinding I was doing beforehand, that was a lot of fun and provided enough excitement for the 20mins I was on to feel like time well spent. I would love to have similar ganks under the balance design of GW to mix things up.
So in the end I'm kinda torn between the two but don't really care either way. Curious as to what other GWers think.

No, because that's what PvP is for.

I don't think anyone should have the option of interfering with my questing.

I would like it.
But I am sure it will not happen.
Take a look at open pvp in MMOs, it just does not suit the game or destroys it or whatever. All MMORPGs that tried it had to restrict it severely.
The thrill to kill someone else does usually not make up for the not-so-thrilling possibility to get ganked yourself... :> - this seems to be the reason for the restrictions.
Anyways, I would like to be a Norn or Human and kill Asura in GW2 in explorables, but I fear this will be limited to world battles...^^

World battles sound fun: Huge areas in wich everyone who is not from your race/faction is automatically hostile. You can fight, or you can run around the hostilities and just mind your quests.

The thing is : you cannot KS in GW being an instanced game and all. There is NO conflict in the game over spawn and questing. The only remaining things that could use settling in a similar fashion could be assholes in PUG's that cannot be be dealt with otherwise [leechers, griefers..etc] and trashtalkers.
One more point worth mentioning: in games where PK is applicable, death penalty usually hurts the player in terms of exp loss possibly leading to level loss, item loss..etc. All of that does not exist in GW so PK could only serve to prevent a leecher/griefer from completing a mission..etc without actively participating and/or as an ego thingie.

eh, I am not a big fan of this concept, it really doesnt fit in with the casual nature that gw tries to portray

I've played enough MUDs that the thought of a PK system makes me want to wretch. All it's good for is griefing. Any successful PvP requires that people actively seek it out, I think. It sucks hardcore when PvP seeks YOU out!

What are you talkin about lol
In Lineage 2 you can kill anyone anywhere (except cities), and it is the most succesful NCsoft game (IMO it's the best mmo ever, I play GW cause I wanted something new after 4 years).
Some people like it, some don't. For me GW2 sounds great, some areas open, some instanced.

PK, Kill Steal, Kill Mobbing, Spawn camping...
Such things have no place in GW.

What if it'd be like in WoW's normal realms? Where you can choose to be flagged for pvp or not. You cant become flagged unless you either toggle the option ON or atk an enemy player/heal the mob that ennemy is fighting/whatever thats indirectly related.
What if it was this way instead? Would you ppl vote in favor of this?

No, because some of us played this game because it was different from WOW.

perhaps restricted to certain areas. As long as it doesn't get to out of hand it sounds rather fun

Yet GW2 is starting to take a very "WoWish" direction ; )
That aside, I'd maybe agree with PK's if you could flag yourself for it.
