I have an illness.
I've been playing Guild Wars ever since beta... but
- I've never had a character finish a campaign (even though I own all of them)
- I've never had prestige armor
- I've created probably 100s of characters (I've been through the damn tutorial SO many times)
- My highest character is level 18
18..
That's right. EIGHT - TEEN.
why, you might ask?
yeah, and I'm probably gonna end up deleting him again.
because I have a sickness...
I CANNOT STOP DELETING MY CHARACTERS.
but all for different reasons, including:
-"what a gay name"
-"frick, i need survivor cause i have to be perfect"
-(at an outpost) "ooh his armor looks better"
-"his face looks retarded"
-"why is he so tall?"
-"i hate the armor"
-etc.
I delete them because I feel as if I should only have one character. One MAIN, PRIMARY character. So, I go on deleting sprees, deleting, deleting, deleting...
The only reason that keeps me playing is that I want a nice HoM to have stuff to show in GW2. And I still find the game fun, despite my stupidity. And I think I know all of the skills the game, because I've created each profession plenty of times.
So, what I'd like to know is, am I the only one with this retardation?
And how the hell do I stick to one character?
ultra sad face
edit: BTW, I'm a casual gamer. So I don't have time to farm for all this cr*p, but I still want to enjoy the game, otherwise I feel like I'm wasting money.

If you have such a severe case of OCD, i'd honestly say quit Guild Wars, because if you really have been playing since beta, you've pretty much wasted almost 3 years...

Are you serious? Since beta? You really need to stop been so picky.. My elementalist doesn't look like I would ideally want him to look like, but I didn't delete him because of it, I kept him..
Find a profession you enjoy playing the most, then DON'T delete it xD
I really don't know what to say..

Time to move onto life? Lol if you just keep doing this and you are not enjoying it, just move on.... unless you really like deleting characters and redoing boring tutorials that you already know, ya just try other things.

Doesn't sound like a compulsion or an obsession... oddly enough it sounds like you have some sort of body dysmorphic disorder.

Fill your character slots with things you like. At the end of it, you'll end up with the perfect character on your last slot.
Or until you get bored and delete him, too.

I agree. Also, you dont have the ability to change anything in an FPS game like you would be able to in guildwars..so you can just enjoy the game instead of going through this character deleting hell.

Dont have kids, cant delete those...
On serious note, I think you should list out what you want in your character. Although I didnt on paper, I knew exactly what I wanted in my mind. So just jot down stuff like, short, male, mesmer, fun looking expression, brown hair, no part in hair etc...
If it helps, other people cant even see your face in high quality and probably dont care either. Armor is pretty important ascetically, but go on guildwiki and look for the ones you want, make your profession accordingly. To sum it up, plan ahead. Draw your dream character first if you have to. Make a checklist, what ever works for you.

maybe create multiple of the same class instead of deleting, that way you can work your way through one, and if you don't like that one, move on to the next fixing your mistakes from the previous...it's like throwing out your first draughts on a piece of writing if you delete your characters. Sometimes it's nice having a comparison to see what you've improved.
I have my 4 primary characters, but the rest I delete willy nilly like you do for largely the same reasons. Main difference being, I don't do it at quite such a level as you do. I do understand where you're coming from though.

Make one character, tell yourself he doesn't have to be perfect and keep playing him till you finish at least one campaign. Just think of the things you are missing out on (like elite armor and knowing what it feels like to finally finish a game). Whenever you get the urge to delete just repeat to yourself: "It's only a game, flaws are fine" It might even help to go all the way and make the worst looking and worst named character of your favorite class.

lol and here I am spending $10 a pop because I can't stand to delete a PVE character at all. Once I start putting TIME into a character I sure don't want to lose it and start over just because of a graphics or a name. I think out my names carefully anyways when I name them so that shouldn't be an issue for anyone anyways just think and then use it. Don't make stupid names like "I'm yah Mama's Bombo" or "Creamy White Thighs"...lol I did delete one of my characters though, my very first one because it was a Ranger/Necro and I just never liked playing the ranger class they suk and are boring. They aren't good for anything other than annoying people with their interupts and bombards and then always running away like cowards or using that darn whirling dervish or throw dirt. Rangers are just too much of a coward class for me to enjoy.

It's plain stupid if your highest level is 18, it means you never got past the mid game content of any campaign. No late game skills, elites, items etc.
It's like the people who stay in pre searing and are content with 10% of the game. They're not crazy, but avoiding a large portion of the game is just dumb.
