Why is everyone so broken up about the instance/grouping thing? Doesn't it describe what you'd expect from a presistant world game?

Sounds like the group quests in Warhammer, meaning it can be done.

This isn't a very credible source, but it's perfectly believable based on what we know so far. "Instance" is being used too loosely here; more likely the explorable areas are akin to "districts" we had in outposts, you get randomly thrown in with a whole lot of other people. If the info first put in mags a while ago is accurate, there will still be fully instanced missions/dungeons as well where you only have whoever you brought with you.
The notion of AIs to party up with is interesting, I figured it would be easier to spawn monsters appropriate to the party size and level, but then it's tricky to figure out who in the zone you are spawning monsters for where. Also cool to see them running around fighting monsters and such. I wonder in moderately populated zones whether players will prefer to group with AIs or humans given the choice.
The downside to this solution is, it's implied that you *have* to party up, with humans if there aren't enough AIs around, to take on the monsters. Say goodbye to single-player GW...

That's an excellent question--this sounds like a fantastic feature, to me!
Sure hoping this is legitimate.

Anything that has the word "Rumor" right in the address of an article I'll take with less than a grain of salt. Sorry, no offense intended and I won't argue for, or against that email.
It's just that until something is officially released by the official powers-that-be, everything else I consider tabloid speculation.

Mike: We're going to have a combination - in Guild Wars 1 everything was instanced, and of course, there's a lot of really cool things you can do with instancing. It allows players to change to the world as they're playing the game, but there are some things we want out of persistence that you can't get with instancing, like the ability to meet new friends as you play through the game. So in Guild Wars 2 its both persistence and instancing. The big, over world will be persistent, but when you go into missions and dungeons it will be instanced.
|
QUOTE JEFF STRAIN ON RANDOM ENCOUNTERS
Quote:
In Guild Wars 2 we'll have another type of PvP that falls between roleplaying and Guild Wars 1 style PvP, which we call world PvP. World PvP is - when you're playing in Guild Wars 2, you're playing in a persistent world, and everybody in your world is on the same side, so everyone you meet when you're out adventuring is on your team, and your world is periodically in combat with other worlds. You can adventure into the Mists that connect the worlds, and there are powerful artifacts in the Mists between the worlds you can get that benefit your entire world.

QUOTE MIKE O BRION/JEFF STRAIN ON SOLO COMFEY
If you adventure out there, you're just playing as you, you don't have to form a team or get picked for a team - you can just wander out into the Mists and you can be fighting people right away. There could be 100 people on your side, there could be 200 people on your side, whatever there is, and you play as you, so if your character is level 15 you play as level 15, if you character is 50 you're playing as level 50.
We will have a sidekicking system similar to what City of Heroes has, where if you're going out with a level 50 friend, and you're only level 15, then he can increase your power to be the same as his power.
further statement extremely solo friendly using an AI companion who does not take uo a slot instead of heroes.

You guys are fooling yourselves if you think ANET isn't going to continue to provide some updates to GW between now and when GW2 comes out. A major factor in the sucess of GW2 is relying on keeping the fan base of GW1. There will be some nice surprises for us between now and then, count on it.
