Botting is technically illegal, but I doubt Anet are wasting their short staffed crew on tracking LDoA botters. People have been doing far more serious botting (eg. HFFF) for months and months with no action taken against them. Empirically, it appears that the metric they use to ban botters is whether they adversely affect the in-game economy.

If Anet wants to prevent gold trading, they need to sell gold themselves !!!
Easy enough in GW store should be option buy xxxxx gold for xx $ that would erase any source of black market gold sellers and people getting banned for buying !!!
Plus that money could be used to finance more people for Anet team (expand game even more, they said that most of their programmers workin` on GW2) and to even more expand servers (make them less laggy) !!!

that is the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing dumbest idea i have ever heard, please just go play a different game or quit spreading that crap around.
if they did that i know i would quit and i bet aroun 30-40% over other people would also.

if they think your botting you might get banned i suggest you use the in-game macros which are not illegal.

If you have to ask, it's probably not kosher.
Like other people said though, I doubt they're tracking pre-searing botting that carefully, and it's a small enough macro that I doubt it would be a big deal.

The easiest way of doing it how i have found it, is to set up a dl before you go bad, and just mash the keyboard when you get up! then leave for another 6 hours or so!

From what I know, it's somewhat dangerous to receive a lot of free items/money without anything being traded on your part because it can get flagged with the thought that you bought the stuff with real money. What I would do to be perfectly safe would be to trade worthless items to your friend in exchange for the items he's giving you. For example give him some random white axe. I would think that it would make you less likely to be flagged. Just a thought if you want to be completely safe.

Thats actually a common method that gold farmers have been using forever to try to appear legit (and not just in GW.) I think he would be MORE likely to get banned if he did this.

Banable ?????
Yes well if they (ANET) was that concerned with these bots out there there wouldn't be a hundred or so side stepping crab walking R/Wars botting in Icytooth Cave every party weekend . Uhm you can see its a program they map into to town side step to the skills guy then they side step to the wall to line up for the sidestep out the door stopping every 20 minutes or so to sidestep to the merchant to cha ching cha ching cha ching . This was found every party weekend when party items are given out thus party items are not sell able to merchant so they keep just the party items for them selfs. Yes buying gold regardless of who from is just wrong . Never understood people who buy gold or sit in town and beg . My answer to them is I'll be right back with your 500 gold I'll just go out side and kill something ..... believe it or not one guy while I was out earning MYSELF money private msg me saying did you kill enough to give me the 500 g yet?

But other then that idea, why not just come back every 8-10 hours to move around? eventually your gonna have to kill the pet your death leveling, can't hurt to set it up so your being attacked at a shrine, go to sleep, wake up, move, die/afk more, go to school/work/whatever you do during the day, mid-day, come back and move mouse, rinse wash repeat.

You most likely won't get banned for that (or to rephrase, you won't get caught). Clicking repeatedly on one spot in a way that doesn't effect other players isn't such a big offense. Gaile Gray has said anet doesn't ban people who use micros to get the drunkard title.

Well.... here is a funny issue...
I got banned for 70 hours for purchasing in game gold for real money. Only issue is... I..oh wait... didn't? I don't get it. I got Shield of Hierophant yesterday and sold it for 80k... I sold some stuff this morning for ectos, including a grim scythe and a mallyx's edge, and I had a friend give me 39 ectos the other day (they dropped them on ground, didn't even trade) I opened Zchest 55 times with my zkeys from TRPs. I don't see what I did wrong... I can't afford to spend how much money those RMT sites want for gold, it is like 200 dollars for a million gold now isn't it? So... um.. wtf?

Of course, ANET bans people that power trade a little also. WTF man, I am so pissed off at them right now for my ban. They said the remove items that you buy... so if I didn't buy items, are they just gonna remove some random stuff from my storage like all my gold? I call bullshit on some of the bans. They ban first, don't bother to ask questions later, and expect you to dance like a trained poodle to get unbanned or appeal it, when it shouldn't have happened in the first place. I transfer items for people all the time! I am really getting cautious now, because this is the 2nd time I have been banned wrongfully. Dominican, one of my guildies, got an "accidental" perma ban for this same reason. He has been unbanned, but it took 3 days and it was on a special weekend (st patties). ANET are way way too crazy with the ban stick right now. I am all for keeping bots in check, but they should PM people and ask them what they are doing BEFORE they slap a ban stick on them. I am sure they can see who is trading with who, and if they PM both parties, they might find that it is an item transfer or the two are friends. Shame on you ANET.

As a couple of other people have mentioned, you don't have to constantly be doing stuff for 10 hours. You just have to come back and move or activate a skill within that 10 hour period. One thing to be aware of though is that you do get kicked after 24 hours, no matter what (I have heard of people staying connected for longer, but I think that requires more movement than deathleveling allows...) Most of the time, however, you won't need to leave a deathlevel session going for longer than 24 hours, so that's not really an issue.
Alex Dimitri, the idea is a pretty stupid one, simply because it's not the fact that there's bots that piss a lot of people off. I think it's more the fact that real-world money trading gives an unfair advantage to those that have enough money in real life to spend it on a computer game to make them virtually rich. That is why a lot of people would quit if Anet started offering in game gold in the online store. There's also the fact that Anet would then be generating gold to give to people who buy it, and it would completely destroy the economy (I know some people may say it's pretty screwed up as it is, and I can understand why they say that, but that's not the issue).

Oh trust me, I know complaining here or on their support page does jack. Oh I know all too well. I actually am normally the one telling people how complaining here will solve nada. I just like to make it publically known when ANET blunders yet another account block. This time, the victim was none other than myself. The times I have been banned (with the exception of one other time) were deserved, or I was at least guilty of it. This one however... different story.
