but i like the cheap prices of tomes, makes new characters move alot quicker

For any old character, skill points are worthless. The sole purpose of a tome is to save you money.

For a new character, your skills are really cheap anyway, so it'd be tough to wrangle a tome for cheaper than you could buy a skill yourself.

Wow I've been underselling monk tomes like crazy then... I've sold about 10 now for 500-600g

I'm on the side of the fence about the demand.
Besides, a lot of people can get their stuff from skill trainers. You have to unlock stuff before the tome works anyway.
