Which is where I'll be going next, having cancelled my other subscrip game to make room on the bank statements... wheeeeee.

Every single MMO is a combination of instanced and persistent areas. Including WoW. So that isnt anything new. But yeah, looking forward to both GW2 and AoC.

What's interesting is that Anet is aiming at keeping the advantage of instance (storytelling, efficiency) and move towards persistence by linking instances together. I think this is going to be a lot of fun.

While that is true ( I probably didn't make myself clear enough), the impression I get from the info on AoC is that the instanced areas are not just raid or 5-man / 10-man group areas. They're supposed to be areas with all the graphics turned up to 11 where you can still play alone... I could be completely wrong mind. I don't know anyone on the beta.

I'm really looking forward to GW2. At first, I completely lost interest in GW1 until they came out with EOTN, thinking my GW1 accomplishments would at least carry over (but then the hall of monuments was a complete disappointment). Still, would much rather have a huge improvement in GW2 than Utopia with minor improvements and just more content. Finding it harder to find things to do other than title grinding though.

I am actually excited that they are making a GW2. Guild Wars 1 is growing vastly old. I been playing close to the 3 year mark, so i am ready to move on to another MMO. IMO, the economy is and has been in poverty for a while, the trade system sucks and titles as endgame content blows balls. To renew and give the franchise an envigrating shot is what it really really really needs. I am expecting there to be a few hardcore fans that will absolutely hate GW2 for being somehow different in gameplay, leveling or being persistant. Dont be scared of change to your favorite game. Because if it does suck, Guild Wars 1 will still be there. And playing something fresh with the fimiliar aspects of our good ol' GW1 is something that i would want to play.
I beta tested AoC and am rather enjoying it. I will probaly give up Guild Wars and move on to AoC on the 20th till/if AION or GW2 steals me away.

You are. If they had learned anything, why are they still making wrong decisions? (See: last balance update to be reverted for PvE whiners).
Rather than Anet learning from their mistakes, they are just making more and damaging the game further. I'm intrigued to see what a joke of a game GW2 will turn out to be.

Their recent mistakes are mostly due to a lack of focus on Guild Wars. All of the development team are now shifted over to Guild Wars 2, with only a few of them still producing stuff for the original on the side.
Despite in the past being quite harsh in my critique of ArenaNets methods, I still have a lot of faith in them as a developer. There is little to no doubt in my mind that Guild Wars 2 will be a fantastic product, I just hope it is one that appeals to my personal tastes.

Most old players would say that Anet got it wrong since factions. I'm just not convinced with the general mentality people in this thread have, and that is: GW2 just magically makes Anet get it right, because it's a fresh start. It's still the same company, and they haven't shown much in the past that suggests they have learnt from mistakes.

I think Izzy has had the problems of the Factions/Nightfall classes hammered into him enough times that he is fully aware of their issues. Outside of that, I really don't see many other concerns. Possibly there are PvE aspects that I am missing.
Lets not forget the many great things they have done for the game: PvP skill packs, equipment packs, observer mode, reconnects, J menu, PvP characters... It's a lot easier just to remember the bad things.

I think if the "inventive skill system" or whatever (where skills do different things depending on stuff) isn't retarded/imba, GW2 will probably be so much better PvP wise. They'll most def keep a similar graphics style (it was a big pro for GW1, all the mags + people raved about them), and they've already said PvP in GW2 (besides the World PvP for PvE people) will be UAX from the start, with only a GvG like mode, it should be REALLY good, imo.
Can't wait to start seeing crap.

Exactly.
The collective disgruntlement of certain player types sometimes just feels like a trendy wave that gets renewed from time to time when someone decides to get sentimental and make friends ("Oh I wuz playing da old dayz too"). Oddly () those people still play the game despite all the whining and name-calling. Something's not bad about Anet after all I guess.
GW2 will definitely be another good game and making everyone start from scratch was the best decision ever.

They don't play anymore. Unless you're talking about the 10 year olds who jump in Riverside to start a thread as to why they were banned for breaking the EULA.
