The graphics should be equal or better.
the instances should be in a "seemless" enviorment that is full or as close to fully explorable as possible. The idea is like this, not a uninstanced world but a world in chunks that you can pass from chunk to chunk seamlessly.
NO LINEAR STORYLINE
story line is cool as long as it is presented as optional and not: do a, then b, then c, to get to d.
NO PVP/PVE just the game, incorporate 1 into the other. and/or have a carebear server.
fix existing graphical anomalies.

PvPvE already exists in many games.

- Level Cap, Level-less system, or Level just has a minor effect compared to most games.
- Max items easily available, rare prestige items that are merely cosmetic.
- Tons of skills to pick, but only X to bring into a mission/area.
- Logical classification system for skill effects to facilitate removal (Hex/Enchantment/Condition etc.)
- Half-decent PvP that doesn't rely on skill spam like 99% of MMOs.
I think that's about it. Expansions, fees, AI support, secondary professions, full instancing etc. are optional.

Thanks man I love you too, but I didn't give suggestions, neither was I judging. I'm sorry my answer didn't satisfy you but those are the first features I would look into when a GW clone would arrive. I would look for differences that could increase or decrease the fun factor for me personaly. And if the devs of that clone payed attention to the forums they'll know what could draw people. 7 heroes, auction house, more storage.

Why didn't he just ask the question the way you do, that's clear. He poses a somewhat vage question with a bad example and expects everyone to know what he's really thinking about or wanting to know.
My answer to the clear question:
- level cap
- no fee
- skill over time played
- great graphics and engine that can run on lower end systems
- streaming technology and the servers system
- human race only to play with
- specialised and unique PvP play
- no imba items/weapons/armor but the vanity approach
- henchies and heroes

I'd expect playable races and mounts. In general anything that seems like a "step up" to Guild Wars, much like the many failures that were "step ups" to WoW.

I would expect a game designed around PvP that is played by many times more PvE only players. A game not designed around grind, but later making it so-called endgame content. I also expect skills to degenerate into a mess after years of bad balancing based on the skill balancer reading up the meta of some freaks posting on message boards like Guru.
(Skill > Time is no longer true, most advantages, titles and stuff are gotten by grinding and not by being a better player at all.)
I would also expect heavy instancing, henchmen and fee-free gameplay and really good graphics and an easy and intuitive user interface (and unfortunately a lack of storage somehow...^^).
You did not ask it, but I would prefer games to be more like Ultima Online. :>

- Reconfigurable builds (No late punishment for bad early choices)
- Low Level cap, character development is finding skills for builds (hunter and gather aspect)
- Items truly increase vanity, e.g. Monks have 32 max armor designs to choose from. Players do not end up having all the "best" item with "that" skin. (individuality aspect)
- Instancing provides good designed levels not randomly generated ones!
- no fee, not only is it more competitive, it also eliminates quite some bad design decision aimed at dragging the game out artificially.
- RTS like gameplay. No spamclicking, no health potion binging, no one-man armies. Instead GW has (mostly) meaningful skillactivation and requires at least AI partners. (Farmingbuilds notwithstanding)

It's not about what you want, it's what would be in it:
Realistic graphics
Instanced Areas
Heavy focus on PvP
Mostly group play
