shru, there is a huge difference between running through a game with set spawns and no outside influences, and RBR, which has up to 5 other player manipulating your speed, as well as variable boxes.

As for me, one of my races tonight started with me being knocked down only once at the very beginning of the race, and I managed to get an SRB and an Echo, and then after the first SRB being Echo'd, I picked up another one. All three were used to the fullest. Still only hit 466k points.

It's obvious that there is a new exploit in RBR that is being referred to as a 'tactic'.

It's clearly not just luck or skill.

I got 464, by getting 3 SRB's and eching one of them. It showed me that higher was possible, because I got rammed at least once at the start and still managed that.

I don't have a clue how people manage 470+ scores consistently, though. Even playing for hours, the luck factor just doesn't kick in often enough to get the seemingly required multiple SRB's.

It's already been said before, these people getting the top scores aren't being influenced by other players as much as you'd like to think. Look at all the comments of people who don't see them after the first 15sec of the match. From that point on it's all about them and the skills they get from the boxes to determine their run time.

And the people getting multiple highscore times are not relying on some "super secret and obcsure skill combo" because they can consistantly post high quality runs without hitting double super beetles, or anything of that sort.

As you note later on in your post: why should I give you something for free? Revealing method hurts me very badly for two reasons:

1) Additional competition to run the line early on = contact with other beetles = lag = lower scores = bad

2) It improves the odds that someone that knows what I am doing will catch early speed buffs and use a knockdown at a time when I can't shield to catch it, which kills the time as well.

So: simple cost/benefit analysis. Reveal: You get something, I lose something. Keep secret: You get nothing, I lose nothing.

Easy choice.

You'd never ask someone why they refuse to let you know what they're holding in poker, right? Same situation.

Sure. It's a high variance game. This means that if you do enough runs, you get optimal power-ups. You don't need tons of SRB power-ups to do it, though. If you did, you wouldn't see a high scores board spammed full of the same people.

On average, I get a shot at a high score every hour or two. Clearly Yuris is getting more opportunities than I am; just as clearly this is because he has found a way to get a quality start more consistently than the method I use.

*sigh* If you trigger skills at the wrong places and times, you lose momentum. If you follow the wrong path, you don't maximize your potential momentum.

The tolerances for triggering skills are often very small. Sometimes you have to hit the skill within a quarter-second or so in order to squeeze the most revs out of the bar.

Small mistakes get magnified, because each one additively reduces your total RRPM for the remainder of the race. If you make 3 minor mistakes, you can expect to lose 4-5 seconds. If you make a major mistake, you can expect to lose that from just the one error.

You have to be FLAWLESS to go north of about 478,000; you have to have the basics down to go north of about 474,000. Otherwise the spiral will kill you, because it eats momentum like crazy.

All of this assumes that you get the right early powerups. I never touch more than 3 boxes. I only touch the third if the first two don't give me everything I need. That help?

Perhaps you don't know how to crack a safe, zip line from a helicopter or fix a car. This does not prove that these things are impossible to do. Nor does it prove that it is impossible to learn how to do these things.

Your logic would claim that the latter two propositions are true.

How I would make beetleracing fair for everyone:

1. Remove the Ram skill
2. Only your very best score counts on the board, preventing any player from being listed more than once

Problem solved.

God yes! For all those improving racers, that's pure gold right there. I *think* I know which 3 you are referring to. I am still trying to figure out the best route though. Water is my biggest problem. I know for a fact that some of the best racers go through it but one way or another it ALWAYS kills my RPMs and, as any good racer will tell you, RPM is king!

It's simple, folks. Powerups are random. Any individual race is significantly determined by luck.

In the long run, the luck factor averages out. Given enough runs, ALL players get the lucky powerup combination needed to attain a top score. Only the skilled players know what to do with them. It follows that the most skilled players will then dominate the top times, given several hours worth of runs.

It all has to do with when and where you trigger the speed buffs. There are other old topics that could help you get started. But if all you're here to do is QQ, you'll never expend the effort to look for them. Nor will you expend the effort to find ways to improve your time.

Could reference you to the "Fastest 'Elite' Area Times" thread in Riverside for a similar QQ-fest where people don't believe that the "impossible" can be done legitimately.

Change your attitudes, people! If you believe it can't be done, you're going to fail.

At everything you ever do in life.

Until you die.

Poor way to live, as I see it.
I totally agree. I don't have much experience in RBR. I tried it a few times and couldn't get the hang of it and didn't have much patience with the 11-12 year old whiners constantly yelling "u suck! moron u phail at gaming." so I never went back. (Would be nice to have a training course to learn on)

However, I play Dragon's nest everytime the boardwalk opens and I love that game. I see the same whiners in there. If I manage to get a high score or even a mediocre score that's wayy better than their pitiful attempt I get called "cheater!!!/Hacker!!!/Bot!!!!" They haven't taken the time to learn the game and so don't realize that small things like using a keyboard instead of a mouse to target the wurms is faster.

I know of only 1 cheat in Dragon's Nest. (A real cheat, not the sugar rush) but didn't see anyone using it this weekend so I think it's been fixed like the RBR Ram thing was.

Any of the PvP areas takes time and practice to learn. If you haven't spent as much time as your opponent then you probably won't win. That doesn't mean your opponent cheated.

I take at least 3 boxes each race, to a maximum of 5 if needed. 6 or 7 even if the whole race is a mess and I'm not first and want to win anyway.

My max is 4 boxes with a possibility of a good time, and another box or two nearer the end if I just want to win and it's a close race.

I wouldn't mind if they removed the knockdown and made it a pure speed boost.
