Personally, I like the fact that I can literally get up and leave the computer, mid-fight, and know that my team will most likely still be alive when I get back (barring henchies over-aggroing, etc.). It simply fits my play-style.
*******NOT A World of Warcraft bash, just MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE********
When I played WoW, I couldn't really even leave after fights (not raids, just general leveling play) because respawns would destroy me.
Just my two cents, please, for the love of god, Guru, do not make a flame war out of this post.

Well, you're right. In GW, they don't respawn and you can come back to it later.
In WoW, they respawn after a few minutes outside instances so you had to log out if you wanted to do anything, risking logging back into the fray. In instances, that's not even an option for the most part.

It's mission 4 out of 20 in Normal Mode. It shouldn't be hard. You sound like you want Guild Wars PvE to be Ninja Gaiden. You're playing the wrong side of the game, in that event. Go 'kill' some thinking intelligences in PvP.
Later in the campaign, you'll have to have some combination of optimal hero builds, good play and good strategy (at least some of these things) to pass the last missions. It won't be terribly difficult, but it'll become possible to fail.

That's what PvP is for. PvE is aimed at a totally different segment of customers.
The argument also forgets that the game has been in release for three years; name a game that players haven't thoroughly broken within three years of release. You can't. Plenty of guides out there to tell you how to play Ninja Gaiden well at this point. If you're comparing your experience with a purchase at release to your PvE experience three years after release, the game experience just is never comparable.
It doesn't help that ANet has generally made the game a lot easier, but that's only part of the problem.

If you don't like having AI do everything, play with other humans, or play PvP.

PVE died when they invented heroes. You don't even need henchies for a long time in Nightfall you can just play with your 3 heroes. I did all the way to Chantry of Secrets. Then I only added one other henchie monk for a long time and only used all the heroes and henchies during missions afterwards until I got to Torment. That's about the only place that provides any real challenges to a full team in Nightfall.

PvE didn't die, it just moved. A chimp on crack could play through most of the game at this point. TBH, the only stuff worth doing in PvE these days is to see how fast you can clear areas that aren't meant to be cleared quickly. That provides a challenge and it actually has a point; farming stuff faster => more stuff or less time spent farming => good.
Some would argue that title grind is worth it; I have to disagree, but I recognize that it's a matter of preference.

PVP in Guild Wars is hardly a challenge. Especially when you can see what the enemy is casting. I play Guild Wars for its story and for fun. For real PVP, I play other games.

Long before Hard Mode ever came about I was able to use 7 Hench to clear zones while doing nothing but calling the first target then just standing and self healing while they killed everything....
This is nothing new...
If you do not feel like your contributing then maybe your using the wrong build or playing the wrong class entirely.

yeah im bored witht he game also. i really wish the game would go back to gw when prophecies just came out where everyone had to get a real group in order to get anything done. the good old days. hard mode isnt even hard. i soloed every mission except eternal grove, raisu palace, and dunes of despair. anet needs to come out with "ungodly hard mode" but this game is too old for it. too bad.

It helps when the vast majority of the good players have not already left. Poor development choices motivated a lot of good players to find a game that encouraged diversity of play styles and more effectively rewarded skill.
This evening, I watched a top 50 guild with what was obviously a serious team nearly lose in HA to a 7/8 heroway with no dedicated healing.
The players at the very top of the curve remain solid, but the rest of the player base is very, very thin on skill.

QFT! This is how I handle NM. See how much you can bite off. It really makes NM much more fun to aggro the ENTIRE opposing force, be pushed to the breaking point, have to rez heroes mid-battle, micro critical heroes, and then to WIN and get to point at the screen and say "HA! Hahahahaha!"
Don't do this in HM.

If you're like me and play one class almost all the time, switch classes for a few days. I'm on a break from title grinding and just playing my other characters is the most fun I've had in weeks.
~or~
Play with less than the max allowable party size
PvP.
Bring some crazy build which everyone else would scoff at you for having.
Find some friends to play with, or a guild.
There's a lot of ways to spice the game up.

Play as an ursan. You'll then feel like you are doing a lot because 80% of the team's damage will come from you.

Amusing discussion.
For the OP, don't hunt deer with an elephant gun.
When I first started the game, someone told me to always use the minimum number of henchies I could to complete a mission or quest. One, it makes for better xp, and two, it makes for a more challenging experience.
Right now, you're just steamrolling them, and it''s no fun, cause they don't need you. Use less heroes and henchies. If you don't need a full party to meet your current objectives, then don't use a full party.
Makes you wonder at all of the people who fly through a campaign in a month just to say they "beat the game". The next day they are complaining that there's nothing to do.
